Chapter 9 The Heroine Must Be Her

Ximena and Damian had just parted when Ximena received a call from the director of Tale of Talia. And she almost collapsed to the ground when she heard the bad news that she couldn't be the heroine.

"We have already talked about this, right? We had an agreement. Why did you suddenly change your mind?"

Ximena's popularity in the music industry was now in decline, so she wanted to enter the entertainment industry. And she had spent a lot of efforts to secure the role.

"I'm sorry, Ximena, but we can't do anything about it. Miss Harper took over Horizon Entertainment today, and she dealt with many projects, including the Tale of Talia. And she wants the heroine to be replaced."

After the director hung up, Ximena clenched her fists tightly in anger. She couldn't let this happen. No matter what, she had to get the role.

That evening, Caroline had just finished work when she received a call from her brother, Travis Harper.

"Hello, Travis," she answered cheerfully.

Travis said at once, "Where are you? I just came back from a business trip. Let's have dinner together."

"Okay," she agreed without hesitation.

Caroline then hung up, packed her things, and left her office with a smile.

She and Travis had not seen each other for months, so while having dinner, they chatted happily, catching up.

"If you have any problem in the company, remember to call me. I'm worried that you will tire yourself too much. If you don't want to manage the company, it's okay. You can stay at home, and I will give you pocket money every month."

"Travis, I'm fine. Why are you and Mom so nagging?"

Although Caroline complained, she actually felt warm in her heart. In the past five years, it was her family who helped her heal her wounds and cheered her up.

Travis smiled and touched her head dotingly.

Caroline had no idea that Damian was upstairs, watching their every move.

Damian was having a dinner meeting with a business partner. He inadvertently saw Caroline downstairs, eating and chatting happily with a man. He was lost in thought and only came back to his senses when his business partner spoke up.

Caroline didn't realize that someone was watching her. After dinner, she went to the restroom. And when she came out, she saw Damian standing at the door with an unlighted cigarette in his hand. His deep eyes were fixed on the floor.

Caroline was stunned for a moment. Why did she often come across Damian?

She didn't want to talk to him, so she was about to leave with an expressionless face. But at this time, Damian spoke in a low voice. "Is it Travis who gave you money to build your company?"

Caroline stopped and said coldly, "I don't think it has anything to do with you."
