Chapter 8 I am not a maid

Selene woke up early in the morning to make breakfast for the family, she had gathered enough information about what each person liked and she prepared it all.

Matteo never came back last night and Dante left for work early in the morning.

The table was set for Shedrach, Emily, Cassandra and Selene.

They were all eating peacefully until Cassandra stepped out of the room.

“Good morning Mom,

Good morning Dad” she greeted and took her seat making sure she was a seat away from Selene.

“How was your night?” Emily asked her, Selene could see that they were closer to each other and Emily adored Cassandra compared to her who was always snubbed.

She was even surprised why she ate the food in the first place but was glad that she didn’t complain.

“What the hell is this, do you want to kill me?” Cassandra suddenly yelled after taking a bite off her sandwich.

“What’s wrong dear?” Emily asked out of concern.

“Did you put peanuts in this, you know I am allergic to peanut yet you still went ahead to put it” Cassandra accused Selene glaring angrily at her.

“What nonsense are you talking about, you are not allergic to peanut” Selene boldly stated out, she may hate her cousin and all but there were a few thing she knew about her like she wasn’t allergic to peanuts and actually loved it.

“What did you just say, are you now me to know if I am allergic to peanuts or not.

You know very well that I am allergic to peanuts and yet you are pretending not to know” Cassandra said and threw her plate to the floor in rage.

“I know that you are not” Selene answered her still sitting down, she wasn’t going to let her plan work of making her feel bad in front of the family. She had gone through so much effort to make breakfast for them and they willingly accepted it but Cassandra was trying to make a fuss out of it which she wouldn’t accept.

“You bitch, you just tried to kill me” Cassandra pulled her seat and pushed away her plate.

“If you don’t like the food then you can make what you like, the kitchen is over there.

Stop trying to make a scene over the effort I made to make breakfast and serve yourself” Selene answered her.

“How dare you talk to her that way” Emily poured her hot tea on her and Selene was startled by it.

“Mother” she called out.

“Don’t you dare call me mother,

We accepted you into this family when your own family rejected you, the least you can do is serve us well but you would rather talk back to my daughter in-law” Emily barked at her, Selene wasn’t surprised about that and she had expected her to take her side.

“I know exactly what you did for me and I am grateful for that but I still stick by the truth because I know very well that Cassandra is not allergic to peanuts” She stated and Emily frowned at how brazen she was to talk back at her.

A slap resonated on Selene face and she gritted her teeth in despair,

“Cassandra would never lie about her health but you on the other hand is someone who can lie and cheat just to get money.

If Cassandra says that she is allergic to peanuts then she is” Emily sneered at her with fury in her tone.

Selene turned to look at Shedrach, as the head of the house and the only man around, she had expected him to do something but he refused doing anything as he just continued eating.

“She is trying to kill me so that she can take my husband away from me” Cassandra blurted out.

“Is that it?” Emily asked sounding so gullible to believe such a thing from Cassandra.

“How would you think such a thing, I am not that cruel to kill you all because of a man, I have my own values” She answered back.

“Values my foot, you should have thought of that before you cheated” Emily spat not caring how hurtful those words were to Selene.

She held the hem of her dress wrinkling it as she wished she could punish them both for the useless accusation they were placing on her.

Emily grabbed her by the hair and pushed her to her knees before Cassandra,

“You will apologize to her this instant” she ordered.

“Never, I didn’t do anything wrong to her so I won’t apologize” Selene stood her ground, she knew she had not offended Cassandra and it was her plan all along to make her bow to her but she wouldn’t do that.

“You are still proving stubborn huh?

Do you want to be sent to the streets to beg after all Matteo doesn’t care if you are alive or not” Emily threatened and Selene humbled herself, she had nothing on her, all her bank cards and money were confiscated by her father, she was completely penniless and being out there on the streets was a bad idea for her.

Selene opted to do what she swore she would never do,

“I am sorry Cassandra” she said and Cassandra held her head high in pride.

“Whatever” she answered back.

“Just make sure to never do it again, be sure to consult me first before you make anything for me” she added.

Selene let out a shrilled laugh as she stood up, the apology she gave was not from her heart and Cassandra was stupid enough to think that she would ever do anything for her after the stunt she had just pulled.

“I am not a maid in this household, I made this breakfast out of kind gesture which means that I might not do it again” Selene answered, she picked up a slice of bread and ate in front of them and then stumped her feet as she left their presence.
