Chapter 5 Wedding ceremony

The wedding ceremony of Dante and Cassandra arrived, Selene had no choice but to get dressed for the whole ceremony.

She sat among the guest as she watched Cassandra walk down the aisle, she watched her take her place with a broken heart.

This was her dream, to marry the man she loved, to walk down the aisle to Dante happy that they would be together forever.

“Do you Dante Shedrach take Cassandra to be your lawfully wedded wife” the priest said.

“I do” Dante’s voice was loud and clear sending a thousand arrows to her heart.

“Do you Cassandra Helmes take Dante Shedrach to be your lawfully wedded husband”

“I do” Cassandra answered with a smile on her face.

Selene didn’t know when a tear drop fell from her face but she was heart broken, she wished she could cry her heart out loud but she couldn’t, it would ruin the atmosphere and make her look bad.

She wiped her tears and blinked her eyes, then she looked up to them and saw them kissing, that was when she broke down silently, she hid her face in her palms as the tears kept rolling out of her eyes.

“Why did it have to be her?” She asked herself, if he were to marry someone else, he could have gone for a total stranger but he choosed her cousin who despised her so much and wanted everything she had.

Cassandra said her speech expressing her love to Dante,

“On this beautiful day I should have a lot to say to you but I really don’t know how to express myself.

I had written countless things down and even memorized some but none of the words I would say amount to the love I feel for you.

You are my life Dante and I would be completely lost without you” she said.

Selene could feel that those words should have been hers, she should have been the one expressing her love to Dante, what wrong did she possibly do to go through such great suffering.

The wedding came to an end and the guests visited the Mount Villa for the after party, Selene seemed to have no sense of direction the past few days, she had been watching Dante and Cassandra with disdainful eyes that she didn’t notice a few people were watching her too.

“Is she the one?

The ex girlfriend who cheated” a lady said walking past her.

“Who would cheat on a man like Dante, what did she take herself for, A Goddess?” the other answered.

“I heard she got married to the brother, she sure knows how to live off other people, just because she couldn’t get Dante, she decided to go for the brother.

What a shameless slut” a lady from behind spoke.

The pitch of their voices could tell that they weren’t trying to whisper and wanted her to hear it all.

She was about to drink from a bottle of wine to make herself drunk when she saw Matteo stagger towards the newly wedded couple.

“Dante, my brother,

Congratulations on your wedding,

You have such a beautiful bride” Matteo giggled as he stood in front of them.

“You are drunk Matteo, get the fuck out of my sight” Dante reprimanded him whispering into his ears.

“Oh come on,

Am I not allowed to be at your wedding, are you embarrassed, if I remember correctly you have always distanced yourself from me.

Do you want to tell me why?” Matteo said.

“Matteo I am warning you, leave before you cause a mess” Dante slightly pushed him away.

“No, I am not leaving until you answer me” Matteo yelled creating attention to himself.

“Get the fuck out” Dante pushed him almost ripping off his shirt.

He was scared that his younger brother would cause a scene as he had always done.

“What is going on here?” Shedrach arrived at the scene quickly.

“Father, he is drunk.

Get him out of here before he ruins my wedding party” Dante quickly stated his reason.

“What is wrong with you Matteo, do you also want to ruin this for your brother as you have always done.

Go back to your room and never come out” he ordered him.

“I am not a child that you can order around, I am not leaving until he answers me” Matteo roared and smashed his bottle just at the feet of Cassandra.

“You bastard” Shedrach immediately punched him in the face and a few gasps could be heard from the crowd.

“Father please spare him” Selene rushed and blocked Matteo from his father.

“Spare him” Shedrach retorted.

“You had one job” he slapped her across the face, he was so furious that she wasn’t able to stop him and allowed him to cause a scene just as he used to.

Selene was silent for a minute, she was greatly shocked that a man she had respected for years would lay his hands on her. She had thought that he was the kind one among them but she guessed wrong.

“I’m sorry father” she apologized.

“Get him out of her before I lose it” Shedrach ordered and Selene tried to touch Matteo but he brushed her hand off and walked away on his own, she followed closely behind him.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, forgive my son and his wife for their callous acts. May the party continue” Shedrach announced and everyone acted as though nothing had actually happened.

Dante’s Grandmother watched the scene and just shook her head.

“Father I had told you that this would happen, this party would have been ruined because of him” Dante expressed his concern, he had wanted his wedding party to move smoothly and without troubles which was why he was against having it at the house but Shedrach convinced him that nothing bad would happen.

“I am sorry son, I had thought that loose woman would be able to control him but apparently she is unreliable. Forgive me for that but you should be more worried if she is hurt?” Shedrach pointed at the broken glass in front of Cassandra.

“Its Alright father, I am fine”

“Are you sure” Dante asked her again.

“Yes I’m fine, let’s just enjoy the party” she replied holding Dante’s hand with a smile on her face.
