Chapter 10 Where is your husband

Selene wakes up the next morning to see Matteo fully dressed watching her with his hands folded and a frown on his face.

“You must have really enjoyed sleeping on the bed that you couldn’t wake up early” Matteo said and she immediately jumped down from the bed.

“I am sorry, I didn’t mean to sleep there but you took my place so I suddenly thought I could also take yours” she answered keeping her head down then she noticed he was carrying a bag, which he had never carried before.

“Are you going somewhere?” She asked him.

Matteo bit his lips before he answered, “I don’t see the need to tell you this but I will be gone for three days, just incase you panic about where I am which I totally don’t care” he said.

“You are leaving again, you just came back after two days of being absent” she let out and he dropped his bag causing a loud sound.

“What is it to you if I leave, haven’t I told you to stay off my business and do not bother me.

You are beginning to get on my nerves young lady” he addressed her in a loud tone.

Selene was so shaken up, she could hear the resentment in his voice as he spoke to her, did he hate her that much that he would leave for days just so that he won’t see her.

“Does this have to do with me, are you fed up of seeing my face and want to be free from me” she asked him wishing she could do get a positive answer from him but who was she kidding, he would always say anything that would hurt her.

“Is that even a question, you should already know that I would do anything to stay away from you but this has nothing to do with you.

The next time you pry into my business then I won’t take it lightly with you, be warned Selene” he picked up his bags and left slamming the door loudly frightening her.

“Three days” she echoed to herself.

“I can do three days” she said to herself suddenly seeing his absence in a new light. She would be free from seeing him for three days, she could do whatever she wanted, she could sleep comfortably on the bed, she could read her books without being bothered by anyone, she could be herself for three days.

She jumped on the bed happily shaking her body vigorously, this was the best thing anyone had ever done for her and she was glad he left her.

Three days was enough time for her to build herself up a bit, grow her confidence and widen her vocabulary.

She danced happily and then a thought suddenly struck her mind,

“What if he comes back to get something” she thought.

She immediately got down from the bed and checked the door, there was no sign of him so she believed he was really gone.

A smile crept on her face as she danced around the room.

Two days had passed and one day was left before Matteo came back, Selene had locked herself up in the room enjoying the free time she had to herself, she only came out of the room if she was hungry or needed fresh air.

Selene sat in the bed reading a book when she heard her stomach grumble, she decided to get a late night snack for herself.

“Oh there she is, the woman who hasn’t seen her husband for two days and is unbothered by it, can you believe that mother” Cassandra said immediately she saw her stepping out of the kitchen.

“Where is my son?” Emily asked standing in front of her.

Selene didn’t know exactly where Matteo had gone to so she couldn’t truthfully answer her.

“He went on a three day business trip” she lied smoothly but Emily did not believe her.

“Matteo has never stepped his feet in his office for a year now, what stupid business trip are you talking about?” Emily asked back and Selene swallowed the next lie she was about to say.

How was she going to compete against his mother who knew almost everything about him.

“To tell you the truth ma’am, I don’t know exactly where he went but he will be back tomorrow” she answered him.

“So you tried to lie to mother” Cassandra yelled at her.

‘Mother’ Selene hated that Cassandra could address Emily as mother but she actually couldn’t.

“I didn’t mean to lie to her, he said he was out on a trip, what other trip would he mean other than a business trip” she defended herself in front of the two of them.

“So if my son got lost for three days, you wouldn’t care.

You were tasked with taking care of him and watching his every move” Emily barked at her and Selene bit her tongue in despair.

“If I remember correctly, your son is a grown up which means he is capable of taking care of himself” she answered back.

She hated the fact that they were acting like Matteo was a spoilt child, giving her the responsibility of taking care of him. How could she take care of a full grown man, much less a man who didn’t want her getting involved in his business.

“That bratty mouth of yours is the reason why you are here in the first place, you cheated and wasn’t able to keep a man, now that you were given a second chance, you still aren’t able to keep him either.

You are just a shameful slut” Emily yelled and pushed her.

The plate in Selene’s hand crashed to the floor and she braced herself for impact when she fell into a strong set of arms.

She opened her eyes to meet a familiar but yet odd set of blue eyes staring at her.

“Matteo” Emily gasped surprised that she had pushed Selene into his arms.

The world seem to stand still as Matteo and Selene kept staring at each other without moving or uttering a word at all.
