Chapter 9 A new she-wolf

(Thomas is on the team)

————————————->)

I buried my head further into the plush cushion and took several deep breaths. Now is the time to review what has happened in my life.

Okay.

Both Ethan and I were taken, hostage. Check. I put up a battle that was to die for. Check. Nobody knows why we were sent to Night of the Wolves in the first place. Check. My future holds a great deal of difficulty for me. Almost Check. I despise everything about my existence. Check.

So, I take that that clears up the fundamentals, right?

"Eva, my love, do you still have a headache?" I was able to pick up on the quaint elderly voice asking.

I raised my head and wished more than anything else that I could simply throw caution to the wind and escape out the nearest window. I couldn't help but crack a grin at the elderly gentleman looking at me with a mix of warmth and worry in his eyes.

"Yes, Thomas, I believe the pain is receding," I politely answered as I got into a sitting posture on the plush queen bed. "I think it's getting better every day."

After I had run into Thomas Rogez, the principal, who had been extremely friendly to me as he led me through the hallways to my dorm outside the school by the lake. After I had run into Thomas Rogez, the principal. After I had run into Thomas Rogez, the principal.

Thomas and I were off to a fantastic start when we began our conversation. I pretended to be a kind and innocent young lady, and he even offered to take me to the lake, but I denied his offer, claiming that I had a headache.

At this school, as at most others, females and boys were not permitted to share a room, even if they were allowed to live together in the same dorm.

That was due to the whole mate phenomenon, and they could not maintain a significant distance from one another. And this gets me to the larger discussion with the term "mate." I despise it.

You are all familiar with being born with a mate; however, in our case, it is different. Although we are indeed each born with our other half somewhere else in the world, it doesn't imply we have to be with them. In most cases, the male mate is the one to detect the presence of the female mate, and if he is willing to accept her, all he has to do is claim her and such.

But if he doesn't, then that's a whole other ballgame. Even if he already has a mate, if he chooses to mate with another woman, he will cause his current partner some discomfort since he does not desire her. Perhaps a great deal, but I'll never know for sure.

Thomas said to me, "Eva, dear, since you are feeling better, I would like to show you to your classes, and then the rest of the day you are free," as he pulled a copy of my schedule out of his pocket. "Eva, dear, since you are feeling better, I would like to show you to your classes, and then the rest of the day you

He checked the time on the watch attached to his wrist and then instructed me to follow him.

I got out of bed only because Thomas urged me to, and we went outside the hostel together. I didn't have a "dorm friend" because, as Thomas said, the elders and council sort of old wolves believed that I was too "unpredictable" and shouldn't have a buddy until they genuinely needed to place someone there. This is why I didn't have a buddy in the dorm.

As we exited the building and started making our way across the school grounds to the massive double doors leading inside, I let out a deep sigh.

I had no desire whatsoever to be in this location. I would make every effort to flee if there were even a remote possibility that I could really leave this location. And I needed to locate Ethan.

I addressed the question to Thomas and said, "May I ask you something?" It's possible that the fact that Thomas didn't treat me like an ass contributed to my ease around him.

He laughed as he noticed the intense look I was giving him and said, "I guess you just did, sweetie." "Go ahead."

"Umm, so Ethan's OK to go, right?" I focused on his eyes while I waited for a reaction from him.

He laughed again and grinned as he said, "Of course, Eva!" He gave the impression that he was amused. He is as healthy as a wolf can be. Did you believe we were doing experiments on him or anything like that?

I scratched the back of my head uneasily and said with a hesitant laugh, "Umm, no?"

He rubbed my shoulder as we got closer to a door that had the number 742 printed on it.

"Oh...my lovely Eva, you have a lot to improve upon." I just nodded my head and immediately assumed an authoritative tone.

A lady approached Thomas with red hair and heels. She handed him a white folder and whispered something in his ear before going away.

Okayyyyyyy.

Thomas smiled broadly as he cautiously opened the door of room 742 and said, "Over here."

I gave a heavy sigh, folded my arms over my chest, and felt the muscles in my eyes tightening and my guard going back up. I needed to locate Ethan before we could leave this place.

Behind the brown door had been opened, he took a step inside after me and then urged me in.

I was in the room when I heard a voice speaking quite loudly and condescendingly. Oh, delight!

As soon as Thomas, who from now on I will refer to as Tommy, and I came into view, the voice ceased abruptly. I didn't even want to describe the instructor since. Unfortunately, I already knew him, and he gave out an extremely hostile vibe as soon as he laid eyes on me.

He was a member of my previous pack, and he had always had a grudge against me. He was cruel and would often say things that were quite painful.

A smile followed the look of amazement that briefly appeared on his face. Where did you get that?

I could only give him a stern look as he said, "Well, look who we have here!"

Thomas broke into a grin when Garson, I believe his name was, strolled up to us and cocked his head slightly in Tommy's direction while smirking maliciously at me.

Thomas greeted me with a kind grin and pointed to Mr. Garson's outstretched arm, saying, "Eva, this is Mr. Garson." Like heck!

As Gars and I started to give each other the cold shoulder, I retorted with a hostile "We've met."

"You have?" Tommy murmured, "From where, if you don't mind my asking?" in response to the question.

When I was ready to answer, Garson interrupted me and said, "She used to be a pack member."

We continued to gaze at each other until it became clear that I had won, which didn't take long, and then I laughed to myself. He imagined that he might triumph over me.

Tommy made his way back to his desk; he gave Garson the white folder to take with him. I haven't even seen all of the kids who are here, but even so, I raised an eyebrow at Tommy and disregarded them.

"Give me a little while, and I'll come back to check in on how your first class goes." Tommy greeted me with a kind grin as he spoke to me.

I said to him, "Ya, see you later, Tommy," while directing my focus intently on Garson. He was carrying a binder that had my name written on it.

The pupils' squeals of laughter and gasps were audible, but I didn't let them affect me.

Tommy stepped over to Garson and whispered, "Be easy on her. She's gone through a lot." Garson acknowledged that he heard him. Because the whole class was chatting and laughing loudly, I was likely the only one who heard it.

My mouth became more clinched, and my arms were crossed tighter than before. Why don't you take it easy on me? Where did you get that?

Before leaving the classroom and leaving me in the hands of the devil, Tommy flashed me one more grin and then walked out the door.

He gestured toward a young boy who seemed to be a bit of a geek and said, "Well, Evie, you may take a seat next to Andrew."

I could feel my lip twitching, and I said Eva's name in a dangerously low whisper.

After he pointed to a desk, I went up to it. Damn him. To hell with this institution. Damn it to hell that I was caught.

I sat down next to the child, who kept staring at me as if he was afraid I might hurt him. I looked forward while arching my brow and crossing my arms, then said, "I'm not going to harm you." I continued to face the front of the room. I could feel the eyes of the whole class boring into the back of my skull, but I chose to ignore them instead.

Once Andrew started listening to what I had to say, I could sense that he became tense. I focused my attention on him, turning my head to stare into the eyes obscured by his spectacles.

Andrew muttered, "It's just... he loves to pick on the new kids," as he walked away.

Before returning my focus to Andrew, I caught a fleeting glimpse of Garson and said, "He will have to try." I was becoming nervous.

"Eva!" The sudden volume of Garson's voice drew my attention to him at the front of the room, where he seemed to be ready to blow his top.

Before glancing at him, I responded with a "yes" while extending out my Y and rolling my eyes.

He seemed to be annoyed. Ha!

"Answer my inquiry!" The skin on his face had a pinkish-red tint to it.

"You asked a question?" I inquired in all seriousness, although I did overhear some laughter, which did not help my predicament.

He gave me the cold shoulder and then moved closer to my workstation.

He seemed to be trying to catch me off guard when he said, "What have you been doing for the last three years?" Best of luck!

"Something you'll never have the chance to do," Garson's response made me laugh even more and caused him to flush even more.

He narrowed his eyes and inquired in a tone that HE perceived to be menacing, "And what would that be?" He was slouching forward a little bit.

I gave him a sly grin and inched closer to his mouth. When I responded to her, there was just approximately a foot between our faces.

I gave you a sneering grin and said, "Your mum."

The students in the class erupted into peals of laughter as a result. I smirked again. To each his own!

After the teacher yelled "Silence!" the students instantly became silent.

He made another attempt to get under my skin by saying things like, "Well, it's pretty terrible that you only seem to draw women's attention."

When I stood up, which caused him to glance at me, he started shaking his head and chuckling.

"Well, at least I can grab 'women's attention,'" you would think. When I saw that he had gone from laughing to being angry, I couldn't help but smirk. The students in the class erupted into laughter once again. I thought I heard some gibberish, such as "burn" and "she got him," but I couldn't be sure.

When the bell rang, it indicated that class was over. I gave him one more grin as I walked by him and accidentally brushed my shoulder up against his, which caused him to take a few steps backward.

While I was smiling and walking toward Tommy, who was smiling, I saw Tommy open the classroom door. Oh! This may not be such a terrible thing after all.

"So, how did you like the lesson, Eva?" It was Tommy or Thomas who inquired.

I gave him a shrug and said, "Not as awful as I anticipated." he answered.

After he had finished laughing, his expression became solemn.

"Umm. I'm going to assume that you're already aware that we need to have a conversation regarding how things are going with Mary.

I gave another shrug to seem calm, but on the inside, I was terrified.

Is it too late to apologize?
