Chapter 2 Captured cont...

Another laughter erupted from him as he said, "You reference Liam Neeson while you're about to murder someone?"

We weren't the closest friends from the beginning, but we were close enough to be. We weren't the best of friends initially, but we were close enough to be.

Because, let's face it, his grins are infectious; I found that I couldn't help but smile back at him.

"Did I mention that your..." and then there was a pause as I felt it.

The sensation never failed to put me on edge, and I really wished that I would never have to experience it again.

It wasn't a frightening sensation; it wasn't awful at all. It was warm and soothing, but it was only a façade. At any minute, that sensation would engulf us.

The only thought that was going through my head was, "Sh!

t. They are the cause."

They have arrived!

" Max cried at us, presumably experiencing it himself, as he hurried towards the back door and took all of the locks off it to get it open.

As everything cleared out of my thoughts, my animal instinct was the only thing that remained. My blood began beating faster than expected.

Get out of there immediately.

I watched as Max violently opened the door, pointed outside, and yelled at everyone to "Run!"

"

You didn't have to tell me twice, and in all honesty, you didn't have to tell me anything since I was already carrying it out.

I took hold of Ethan and dragged him along after me with an iron grip.

I overheard Ethan offer his gratitude to Max as we hurriedly exited the building, and then we started sprinting into the cold, clear night air.

We were very grateful to the one guy who had taken us in, but we couldn't bring him with us because we didn't want to put his life in danger.

The area that served as Max's backyard was enormous, and at the very end of it was the beginning of a forest with a sizeable broken-down tree that had fallen in the middle of the path.

At night, the backyard seemed darker and more sinister as a result of this.

I discovered that it had a relationship with nature quite similar to a home.

I rushed even faster and pulled Ethan along with me as he fumbled about attempting to increase his pace to match mine. In seconds, the two of us were launching ourselves off the ground and climbing the tree.

It seemed that they were coming closer and closer, and as a result, my hope was dwindling. It seemed like we were going to have to battle them.

"Shift!

" Drop your hand, Ethan!" I cried to Ethan as we leaped over the tree just three feet tall.

I had the distinct impression that my skeleton was shifting slightly as if I were transforming from a person into a beast. I could feel the wild animal that lay dormant inside me rising to life and becoming ready for anything.

My skin started to change, and tiny fur sprouts sprang on every square inch of my body. The sensation of being free.

I was a shape-shifter, but I could only transform into what was widely known as a werewolf, also known as a much larger wolf. I wasn't a triangle that could magically morph into a trapezoid; instead, I could only transform into a werewolf.

I landed on the muddy ground with all four of my legs and instantly turned to gaze to my right, where I saw Ethan land with a thug while he was in his striped grey and black form.

I nodded my head in the direction of the woods, signaling that we were about to enter it. He was already familiar with the process; after all, we had carried out this activity for quite some time. However, we had never before outstayed our welcome in how we did so this time.

After he gave a headshake that was both up and down, we started the drill that we had been working on for the last three years.

The woodland was dim and had a musty, earthy odor; the soil on the floor had a dark brown hue, which suggested that it had rained not too long before.

As we made our way through the many branches and pebbles in our path, I was on high alert.

I let Ethan walk ahead of me, and then I suddenly stopped. I did this because my stomach was twisting in too many directions, and I knew that something would happen soon. I waited for Ethan to catch up to me numerous times as I waited for him to catch up.

When I got closer, I could hear the thumping of another wolf's heart. It was frighteningly near.

The same sensation put me on edge every time since I knew that it indicated that a wolf I didn't recognize was close by each time.

When I looked up, I watched Ethan start to sprint towards him at full speed, running faster than he ever had before. Time seemed to slow down, and my pulse rate dropped in anticipation.

This time was different, and it caused me to lose control of my emotions, which is why I became angry.

I watched Ethan pause and glance curiously to his right into the bushes. Stupid kid, I wanted to shout into his wolf noggin' I saw Ethan stop and look curiously to his right into the bushes.

After a few seconds, a massive charcoal wolf sprang out of the bushes and made it quite apparent that it would attack Ethan. In response, Ethan recoiled involuntarily out of fear.

This is because Ethan was such a baby, and he was unable to take care of himself. Despite this, our friendship did not suffer since I was there for it.

I was the one who fought, while he was the one who loved.

As I pushed high into the air with my paws and attacked the wolf that was the color of midnight, it was so black that it nearly seemed like a blade. My rage started to take control of me as I did this.

I made a loud cracking noise, which caused both of us to fall to the ground and roll about in the dirt, leaves, and boulders that covered the forest floor.

I quickly pounced to my feet when it was possible, and I heard a deep growl erupt from the blackish-blue wolf in front of me. It had eyes the color of the finest dark mocha ice cream. I couldn't stop the growl that came out of my chest as we were in attack positions, sizing one another up. I was the alpha.

I knew he wouldn't give up without a fight since he was enormous, but I wasn't going anywhere with those beasts. I would fight for freedom until my last breath.

However, I would not put Ethan in danger.

He started surrounding me to gauge my response and determine my vulnerabilities, but I wouldn't allow him.

I couldn't help it; my inner wolf wanted to burst out and rip this wolf apart with her bare jaws. As I began to envelop him, my lips pushed apart, revealing my sharp white teeth.

However, because he was male, it would need some effort on my side, but I was prepared to put in the work.

After an intense minute of sizing each other up, he made the first move. He attempted to grasp my neck, but I was too fast and slipped by him as he staggered. He turned to me; his eyes fixed on me and only me. After a minute of this, he made his first move.

I turned my head to look at Ethan as he attempted to leap off of the back of the black wolf. No, you idiot! Why can't he just leave it to me? Lovers don't fight; they die and inflict the fighter pain!

As I raced toward them, Ethan was being thrown against a tree by the wolf, which had grabbed him by the neck.

His body fell horribly, and the sound of his whimpering pierced my ears.

ETHAN!

I kicked the wolf in the face with my hind legs as I rushed away, my anger retaking control of me as I fled. The wolf was inches away from biting my leg, so I used the chance to kick the wolf in the face with my hind legs.

I anticipated that he would whimper from the agony, but instead, he let out a low growl that made me nervous.

In that split second, I saw it as a capitulation.

I rushed over to Ethan as he lay, trying to get up and help but failing at that precise moment. I pushed him down with my head giving a little sound, meaning for him to stay down. He was already hurt, and I didn't want him to get any more wounded than he already was. I didn't want him to get any more injured than he already was.

I took a defensive position in front of Ethan and growled a warning at the wolf, telling it to stay away from Ethan and not even put a paw on him because I wouldn't allow it.

The wolf pounced for me, and for some reason, I knew that he was done playing games, but he was much too swift for me. He grabbed my neck, but I jerked away as pain ran through my body, starting at my neck.

I can confirm that it penetrated my flesh.

I dropped to the ground and gave Ethan a brief look, during which I saw that he was hardly paying attention and that he had returned to his human form. He was more defenseless and vulnerable than he had ever been before as he lay there helpless.

I ran to his side, oblivious to the anguish in my neck, for I knew I had to help him. I growled as more and more humans dressed in black suits like those worn by armies came, followed by other wolves.

How my stomach turned at the sight of these males

The dread in the pit of my stomach continued becoming worse as more and more wolves began to surround us. The wolf in front of me had eyes that were focused and looked right at what I was doing.

I don't want to be a part of anything, and I don't want to run with a group.

Why was it so challenging that they couldn't comprehend it?

There was a possibility that I may get away, but Ethan was injured and wasn't recovering quickly enough.

Since I was standing so close to Ethan, I could feel his hand on my back as he spoke to me in a low voice and said, "Eva, you're bleeding."

I felt a warm liquid run through my fur, but I knew it would not be fatal. I probably looked horrible at that point. A white female wolf with red streaks of blood coming off my neck. Indeed, I was completely white, which did not help me in the forest. Maybe if I was in Siberia or the North Pole, then the......
