Chapter 6 Let's Get Hammered!

"Okay."

A genuine smile finally brightened up Adeline's face.

In the past three years, all she'd done was to care for Brendan. She didn't have her own life at all, and she hadn't been able to enjoy herself.

From now on, she would live for herself.

Life could be very difficult for a woman who married someone from a big and rich family. After Adeline married into the Clemons family, they had always reminded her to know her place and pay attention to her words and deeds. She had always followed the Clemons family. Her life had been so controlled that she couldn't even choose her own clothes and jewelry. Since becoming Brendan's wife, she had committed to meeting the Clemons family's criteria for being prim and proper, which were true of every rich and powerful family. There was no room for mistakes.

Adeline indeed became even more beautiful and elegant as Mrs. Clemons, but in the process, she had lost her own soul.

Now, she put on a red slip dress and exquisite makeup.

The moment Myah saw her, Myah was amazed and felt like her best friend had changed into another person. "Wow. You look stunning, Addie. I bet many men will be enchanted by you the moment we walk into the bar later."

"Stop exaggerating." Adeline didn't think she was very beautiful. She was just happy she could finally choose her own dress. She was still finding it hard to believe that the shackles were finally broken.

Myah drove them directly to Callie's, a famous bar in the city.

Meanwhile, a group of rich young men was also having their own version of a good time.

In one of the VIP rooms at Callie's, light smoke filled the air as well as the clinks of glass goblets and the sound of rave music.

The several well-dressed young men from rich families were sitting on the sofas and surrounded by beautiful young women. Not far away, there were also some girls who were singing softly. The dim light cast a shadow on Brendan's face. His jaws were clenched tightly, and he stared into space with eyes that were as dark as a starless sky.

"It's late, Brendan. Why are you still here? Shouldn't you be home by now? I heard that your wife stays up every night waiting for you to come home, and when you don't, she calls up and urges you to come home. Is that true?" Rex Murray, one of the playboys, raised his eyebrows at Brendan and teased him.

All the young men present were Brendan's friends, and they all had grown up together. Although Brendan and Adeline didn't hold a wedding ceremony, they all knew about their marriage.

And they also knew the reason why Adeline married into the Clemons family. They were all affluent young men, so they naturally looked down upon a gold-digger like Adeline. So Rex's voice was full of contempt.

"The Dawson family is very weak. It's difficult for them to survive without Brendan and the Clemons family's help. Otherwise, why would they insist on marrying Adeline to Brendan? In my opinion, that woman is out of her mind if she thinks she can control Brendan. She should just focus on getting pregnant and giving birth to Brendan's children. That's all she's for anyway." After drinking a few glasses of wine, Nolan Douglas had become more unbridled when talking.

"You guys, show some respect, will you?" Taylor Gordon, who was Brendan's best friend, shook his head. "Yes, the Dawson family isn't that rich like our families, but I don't think that makes Adeline a bad person. She's really doing a great job being Brendan's wife. She may be Mrs. Clemons, but she also has her own career. She's not that bad."

Adeline worked as an interior designer. Taylor actually knew her from when he was decorating his house. In Taylor's memory, Adeline was gentle and polite. He visited the Clemons family several times after that, and he remembered one time Adeline even personally cooked and invited him to join them for dinner. When the men chatted in the study after dinner, Adeline made some tea for them, and for the rest of the night, she didn't disturb them anymore.

When Taylor was about to leave then, it was raining outside. Adeline was the one who gave him an umbrella, worried that he would get soaked and catch a cold.

Adeline had left a good impression on Taylor. He would be satisfied and thankful if he could have a wife like her someday.

Therefore, in private, he often persuaded Brendan to be nicer to Adeline.

"She's just an interior designer. What's so great about that?" Rex said disdainfully. "Forget about her, Brendan. Let's get hammered tonight."

Brendan's face further darkened.

Adeline did a great job being Mrs. Clemons?

Thinking of the words she said to him and the moment she took her suitcases and left without hesitation, Brendan felt a little dejected.

"Well, she's not at home tonight. I'll stay and drink with you guys."
