Chapter 4 Nowhere To Go

Adeline fluttered her eyes shut for a moment.

Brendan didn't have to worry about her coming back. She wouldn't come back. She wouldn't allow herself to do so even if it meant her death.

She opened her eyes again, gritted her teeth, and left without looking back.

Looking at the closed door, Brendan clenched his jaws and narrowed his eyes.

In the past few years, the Dawson family had relied on the Clemons family's support to survive.

He didn't believe it one bit that Adeline would truly dare to divorce him despite that fact.

Therefore, he didn't take her words seriously at all.

At this time, Tiffany called.

She asked in a soft, sweet voice, "Brendan, are you at home?"

"Uh-huh," Brendan grunted.

Tiffany was attracted by Brendan's sexy voice. She started to think to herself. Her husband was dead, and she had no one to rely on for the rest of her life.

Now, Brendan was the only heir to the Clemons family. Also, he used to like her. All she needed to do was to win his heart again.

But she should be patient.

Tiffany said in a shy voice, "I saw that Addie looked gloomy when she left. She must have misunderstood us. I'll explain to her tomorrow. You work hard every day and take care of me at the same time. You must be very tired. I don't want you and your wife to quarrel because of me."

She tried her best to comfort Brendan.

Tiffany had always had a lot of admirers, so she had learned the way most men thought.

Men needed the support and gentleness of women, and only by providing those things could she slowly win a man's heart.

Not really knowing why, Brendan felt annoyed when he thought about Adeline walking out on him. After a long time, he answered Tiffany, "You don't have to worry about my relationship with Adeline. You just need to take good care of yourself."

Tiffany didn't expect that Brendan would say such things to her. She gnashed her teeth together and said, "I mean no ill will, Brendan. I just care about you."

"I'm busy right now. I'll call you later." Without any explanation, Brendan hung up the phone.

Tiffany held the phone to her ear until the dial tone went busy. The gloom in her heart manifested in her eyes. In the past, Brendan had been obedient to her whenever they were together, and he had never spoken to her like that.

She had been living abroad for only a few years. When she returned this time, she clearly felt that there was a gap between her and Brendan. They were no longer as close as they had been before.

It had been three years since Brendan and Adeline got married. Did he actually fall in love with her?

Tiffany was a little confused, and she was miffed by her own speculations. Brendan was the best man she had ever met. She liked him, and she must win his heart.

When Adeline stepped out of the house, it started raining again. She walked in the rain idly until the rain stopped. Strings of rainwater slid from the leaves.

It wasn't until Adeline had made it out of Brendan's property that she realized she had nowhere to go.

Should she go back to the Dawson family?

No. She didn't belong there anymore. That was no longer her home.

All of a sudden, Adeline realized that she had been so pathetic over the years. She had nothing to her name. No achievements, no assets, and no merits. No wonder Brendan didn't like her.

After managing to calm herself down, she called her best friend, Myah Brooks.

Half an hour later, Adeline found herself standing at the door of Myah's house. Myah opened the door in her pajamas and pulled Adeline in.

It had rained for a long time, so Myah felt a bit chilly when she opened the door. She asked in surprise, "Addie, what are you doing lugging your suitcases around in the rain? Has Brendan done something bad to you again?"

Myah and Adeline had known each other for many years, so Myah knew everything that was going on between Adeline and Brendan.

After walking for a long time, Adeline felt weary. "Let me get some rest first. I'll explain later."

She looked fatigued and dispirited.
