Chapter 10 She Couldn't Give In Anymore

Leona never expected this.

She was so stunned that she began to stammer, "I... I see."

Hilda kept staring at her without blinking. There was a meaningful look in her eyes, as though Leona reminded her of someone else.

Finally, with a serious tone, she said, "Don't let me down."

Leona nodded, the surprise still etched on her face.

She had been married into the Hayes family for a year already, and yet, she had never met her mother-in-law alone until now.

Leona didn't expect that the first time they met each other and talked, it would be because her marriage was in jeopardy.

Before this, Leona lacked the courage to face Elmer. However, with Hilda's support and encouragement, she was now a bit braver.

Now, she was no longer willing to go against what her heart was saying. Instead, she wanted to try her best and fight for what she wanted.

Hilda's purpose in asking Leona out was to talk about this matter. Now that she saw that Leona's mind had been made up, she didn't need to stay any longer.

Once Hilda left, Leona put away the photos on the table, the sight of which still brought a pang to her heart.

All of a sudden, a bouquet of blue hyacinths was handed to her.

As the fragrance of the flowers wafted up her nose, she heard a man ask respectfully, "Are you Ms. Barnes?"

When Leona looked up, she saw a man wearing a flower shop uniform.

She shot him a confused look. "I didn't buy flowers."

Despite this, the man flashed a soft smile, placed the bouquet into her hands, and left.

Stunned, Leona stared at the flowers in her arms for a while. Then, she noticed that there was a card stuck between the flowers.

The signature on the card was Hilda's.

There were also some words written on the card. "I didn't give you a gift this time. Next year, I'll prepare a birthday gift for you."

Reading this, Leona immediately understood what Hilda meant. She wanted Leona to hold on for at least another year.

Her words of encouragement moved Leona. As she stared at the card, tears started to well in her eyes as she tried her best to stifle a sniffle. She didn't want to cry in front of the people in the cafe.

She never expected that someone aside from Alfie would be supportive of her in this situation. Moreover, she didn't expect it to be Hilda, who appeared indifferent towards her and rarely spoke with her.

Leona pulled the hyacinths close to her and gave it a whiff. Its aroma had a calming effect, making her feel happier.

With a wide smile, she went home with the flowers in her arms.

In her eyes, Hilda was right.

She and Elmer weren't divorced yet. There was still enough time to fix their relationship and get their marriage back on track.

She should at least try her best.

What if Elmer changed his mind?

After returning home, Leona placed the blue hyacinths in a vase on the windowsill of the master bedroom.

After thinking for a long time, she booked Elmer's favorite private restaurant and nervously dialed his phone number.

However, as soon as she pressed dial, she immediately cancelled the call.

The thought of Elmer's cold voice made her heart tremble. She pondered over it once again, and decided to send him a message with the address of the restaurant.

"Elmer, if you're free tonight, can we have dinner here?" it read.

On other side of the phone, Aurora opened the message and sneered. "Why is someone still daydreaming?"

She looked around and saw that no one in the CEO's office was around. The door was also closed.

Elmer and his special assistant were in a meeting, and they wouldn't be back right away.

Aurora just gave the new secretary a look at her photo with Elmer, and the secretary let her in with respect.

Because Elmer didn't take his phone with him, she was able to read Leona's wishful thinking.

Aurora's eyes flashed with evil intentions. She sat leisurely on Elmer's chair and composed a text for Leona.

"Okay, wait for me," it read.

Then with a grin on her face, she started deleting the message logs between them. She also blacklisted Leona on his phone.

At six o'clock in the evening, Leona arrived at the private restaurant.

After confirming her reservation information, the waiter led her to the private room.

The restaurant was luxuriously decorated. Its marble wall was so pristine that it reflected Leona's slender figure.

She was wearing an elegant dress, and the end of her black hair was curled up as it bounced gently on her back.

She was only wearing light makeup that accentuated her facial features. Her every gesture and smile were both gentle and pleasant, making her stand out from the others.

Leona sat down in the private room and waited for Elmer to arrive.

However, after a few hours, he still had not yet come.

She stared at the French window and noticed that it was already dark outside. And yet, the person she was waiting for wasn't here yet.

The waiter kept knocking on the door, asking what time the dishes could be served. When he noticed that Leona was in an embarrassing situation, he didn't disturb her anymore.

Leona tried calling Elmer, but her call wasn't going through. She also tried sending him a message, but she didn't get a reply. She was starting to worry.

Elmer wasn't the type of person who would break his promise and disappear without a word, unless something bad had happened.

After thinking for a while, Leona dialed the phone number of Elmer's special assistant.

But before she could even finish dialing, the battery of her phone died.

She had no choice but to leave the private room and borrow a charger from the front desk.

All of a sudden, she stopped in her tracks.
