CHAPTER FIVE: UPROAR
"Dad! What startles you?" Kevian asked Hayes who jumped up in surprise because he didn't expect anyone behind him.
"I warned you against this style of appearance. Let someone know when you're coming. You startled me more than what I just read." Hayes complained.
"You haven't answered my question yet." Kevian said. Hayes threw the paper to him. The moment it landed in his hands, the sweet voice of his mother called.
"Time for supper!" Sadie called. Father and son exchanged looks.
PORT PRIME
Cher Lucille arrived home late and tired with files tucked under her arms. Talia had picked up Rollis from school and together they had gone for Gavin from the Silent Gates company.
"Big sister!" Rollis, who was busy with his homework ran to hug his sister.
"How was your day little Rollis?" Cher asked.
"Very fine. Mommy and I went for dad at the company. On our way back, we dropped by the supermarket for..."
"Please... please Rollis, I need to change first, ok?" Cher patted Rollis who went to sit down with a bored look.
In the morning, Cher had been told that Viole wasn't getting out of bed. Before she went to her room, she decided to drop by her room. Viole was done with high school and was to join university in few months' time.
When she got into the room, Viole was on a call.
"Cut off the receiver please..." Cher sat by the bed. Viole cut off the receiver. She was in a light evening dress.
"Good evening big sister. How was your day?"
"As busy as ever. How do you feel now?"
"What do you mean how do I feel now? I was never sick." Viole said. Cher's eyes contracted as she looked at Viole.
"Are you kidding me? Mom said you were sick you can't get out of bed in the morning. I almost send someone to come check on you." Cher said.
"Huh! I just didn't want to take Rollis to school. He is one nuisance I don't want to go with him anyway. He will be asking for everything that..."
"Stop there! You what Viole? You're damn boring. I got to the meeting late because I had to drop Rollis to school. What you're telling me is pure nonsense." Cher said angrily.
"Calm down. "Cher was never angry unless she was really pissed off. "Rollis is one hell pf a brother. He doesn't even trust the guards, want us to accompany him so he will be asking for this and that on the way. What's that?"
"Let this be that last time you're giving me such a lame excuse. Am busy and when I need your help, please avail yourself. Rollis is our brother after all, we can't run away from whatever responsibility that comes with him being our brother. Besides, he's too little. We have to understand everything he does. He's childish. That's a stage." Cher said.
"Am sorry sister." The two hugged before Cher went to freshen up and change.
Dining table...
Gavin was seated next to his beloved wife Talia. Rollis threw a tantrum when they pulled out a chair for him so Cher carried him on her lap and helped feeding him. Viole sat next to Cher. They had made peace and she had volunteered to drive Rollis to school every day.
"Cher, have you ever dreamt of vising Helion?" Gavin asked.
"Yes dad. Someday. The last conference meeting was supposed to be held in Helion but we got a chance of plan." Cher said.
"Remember we are all citizens of Helion?" Gavin asked.
"Dad, at school our teacher said there is no peace in Helion? I've never been to that hell of a country." Rollis piped causing his mother and Viole to burst into laughter. But Cher and her father remained serious.
"Dad, what is Rollis talking about?" Cher asked."
"Cher, don't tell me you're talking little Rollis's words serious." Viole laughed.
"Honey? You two are serious over such a lame joke?" Talia asked while looking at Cher and Gavin.
"It's not a joke. Rollis is right." Gavin said.
"What?" Cher stopped eating. "What exactly is happening there?"
"Why are you worried Cher? We're no longer in Helion!" Viole said.
"Viole, our grandparents are still in Helion. Besides, there is where our roots originally lie. We have to advocate peace wherever we are even if we don't have roots there." Cher said.
"Honey, what's happening in Helion?" Talia asked.
"Dad, mom, nobody wants to be believe me, right? Viole says my words are jokes." Rollis complained.
"Rollis will you for once listen?" Viole got angry.
"Well, there is an uproar. The citizens want the rightful prince to take over the throne. I heard the king is sick and wants to pass the throne to his adopted son."
...
HELION...
When Hayes woke up, the sun was yet to be up. Kevian was already up and working on his files before he could go to work. Morel was holding her bag while taking tea and impatiently waiting to be driven to school.
Checking online, Hayes shuddered. All the roads were blocked as citizens started their strike at midnight. Videos of citizens with boards and posters of 'all we need is the return of the true prince' went viral.
"Morel, no going to school today." Hayes said.
"What? Dad... I have a presentation today!" Morel dropped the cup.
"I said no going to school baby girl. It's not safe out there." Hayes said.
"Honey!" Sadie called while standing on the stairs in her night gown.
"Mommy, daddy doesn't want me to go school." Morel reported.
"Daddy must be having a reason, ok? He loves it when you go school and he has all reasons to hold you home today." Sadie comforted her daughter in time for Kevian to walk out of his study room in his black well-tailored suit.
"No going out son." Hayes warned after their greetings.
"Huh!" Kevian responded before his father asked to talk to him in private. The two walked to the balcony and overlook the city far below them. Crowds of people were scattered all over.
"My son, do you know who the rightful king is?" Hayes asked.
"Yes dad." Kevian said.
"Everyone is protesting against dad's adopted son taking the throne. That means, however much we try to stay low, we are the center of attention. I never thought there will come a time when the peace of the country will be destroyed. I never thought there will come a time when my family will be the center of attention. My son, you must know that even at the end of the protest, when the citizens will get what they are striking for, that means, when our family will take the throne, we will have made enemies."
"Who is that adopted son?" Kevian asked.
"Jesse Brooke." Hayes replied.
"I know it's not going to be easy especially for our family, but dad, I promise one thing. Whoever lays a hand on any on my family members will be granted his or her death wish." Kevian sworn.
Meanwhile, as soon as the sun was up, the king got the shocking news. In his death bed, he was told there was no peace because of his reckless decision.
All the ambassadors were stranded and no one knew what to do next, not until one of them gave out his idea.
"I heard of one advocate of peace from Port Prime."
