Chapter 5 Do You Really Want To Marry Her

Herbert's words made all the color drain from Winnie's face.

Trembling with anger, she had half a mind to slap some sense into that boy.

She gritted her teeth. The damned Sheila always put on a pitiful act to make men protect her.

Fortunately, Winnie was smart enough not to act rashly.

She squeezed out a few tears and looked at Gerald pitifully. "Gerald, look at him..."

"Don't you understand that a fool like you had better keep silent?" Herbert rolled his eyes impatiently.

"You-!"

"Herbert, watch your mouth," Gerald snapped at his brother, seeing that Winnie couldn't contain her anger anymore.

Herbert sneered, but he obliged and stepped aside.

"Well, what're you all doing outside? Mr. Lamont, sorry for not receiving you. Come on in!" Hearing the commotion outside the private room, Enoch stepped out to check. When he saw the situation, he quickly walked over with a smile and tried to mend the situation with polite words.

Bowing to the Lamont brothers, he gestured at them to go inside the private room.

When everyone was seated, Enoch said tentatively, "Mr. Lamont, may I ask why you invited us over here?"

"I'm here to discuss the engagement with Miss Newell," Gerald said promptly, cutting straight to the chase. His gaze swept over Sheila and finally landed on Winnie.

Although they had heard from Winnie about what had happened last night, Enoch and his wife, Miranda Newell, didn't totally believe her until it came from Gerald's mouth.

They immediately nodded, their eyes lighting up with joy.

Winnie, who was sitting next to Gerald, tried to lean on him, but he subconsciously evaded her.

She froze and looked a little embarrassed. Fortunately, Enoch noticed her plight and helped her out in time.

Enoch apologized for Winnie's thoughtlessness and looked at her meaningfully, indicating that she should apologize to Herbert.

Although reluctant, Winnie was used to acting according to what the situation called for.

If she wanted to marry Gerald, she couldn't afford to offend Herbert.

Thinking of this, Winnie smiled and handed a bowl of mushroom soup to Herbert. She said gently, "Herbert, try this. This place is famous for this dish, and it's very delicious."

Herbert was busy eating a roasted prawn at this time. As Winnie spoke, he didn't acknowledge her, as though he didn't hear her.

Winnie's smile stiffened. She stood up and walked towards Herbert's seat, the soup in her hands. Putting on a pitiful look, she said softly, "Herbert, I want you to taste this..."

"Get away from me. I don't want it." Before she could give him the soup, Herbert pushed her away.

The abrupt motion caused the thick, hot soup to splash out of the bowl and land on Sheila.

As the soup dripped into her eyes, Sheila couldn't help but cry out in pain.

Herbert quickly leaped into action and started to wipe Sheila's face with tissue. Noticing that Sheila's eyes were squeezed shut, he immediately asked with concern, "Are you okay? Take off your glasses and let me have a look."

"No! How dare you?!"

Winnie blurted out sharply.

She couldn't let Gerald see Sheila's face.

For a tortuous moment, the whole room fell into silence. Everyone wondered why Winnie wouldn't let her sister take off her glasses, given the gravity of the situation.

Sheila's eyes were burning from the soup, but she didn't dare to remove the glasses to wipe them.

Ivan's follow-up medical fees depended on Winnie...

Sheila forced a smile to show that she was okay. She needed to endure until dinner was over. Just then, she heard a disdainful sneer.

"It seems that you all get along well," Gerald, who had been quiet this whole time, suddenly spoke.

"Mr. Lamont, don't misunderstand. Winnie just wanted to ask someone to take Sheila away to get treated. After all, we don't have a first-aid kit here."

Miranda's words brought Winnie back to reality. She realized that now wasn't the time nor place to throw a tantrum. She briskly asked a waitress to take care of Sheila.

Then, she turned around to pull at Gerald's arm fawningly. "Don't worry. Sheila has thick, calloused skin. She won't..."

Gerald's cold gaze landed on her. Winnie didn't dare to continue speaking, and she quickly let go of his arm.

Herbert wrinkled his nose with disgust. "Gerald, are you really going to marry this hypocrite?"
