Chapter 7

Dinah continued, "Please don't leave me again. I can't bear it."

Jeffrey stared at Dinah in bewilderment.

He knew that Dinah was referring to him by calling Jeff.

She never called him that.

He frantically grabbed Dinah's arm and asked, "Who is Jeff? Dinah, tell me who Jeff is."

The moment he asked, he regretted it.

Jeffrey felt his entire body burning. He wanted to know the answer, but he feared it at the same time.

Could this Jeff be another guy?

That was impossible.

Dinah had been so nice to him in the past five years.

She must be calling him Jeff.

But the truth was always cruel.

Upon hearing his question, Dinah instinctively smiled, and her eyes became tender as usual.

She replied, "Jefferson, how can you not recognize yourself?"

Jeffrey's face turned ashen instantly.

It was Jefferson Blakely.

Jeffrey's world crumbled at that moment.

That name was well known, and everyone knew him.

Jeffrey could never surpass Jefferson.

Tears welled up in Jeffrey's eyes as he clenched his hands so tightly that he didn't even notice his nails digging into his flesh.

He forced Dinah to look at him and said, "Look at me! Why won't you look at me?"

Jeffrey was arrogant. He always got whatever he wanted with just a word.

He had never been so humble.

But he was willing to bow down for Dinah at that moment.

As long as she showed the slightest care about him, Jeffrey could hold on.

Dinah slapped him and then gently touched his face. "Jeff, why are you yelling at me? Did I hurt you?"

Her gaze alternated between clarity and confusion.

When she was clear, there was a murderous intent towards Rose in her eyes. When she was confused, she was lost in thought.

Jeffrey felt more sorry for her.

Torn between reason and emotion, he suddenly pushed her away. "Take her to the hospital," he shouted.

Lately, he had been avoiding Dinah completely.

Dinah woke up in the hospital.

The multi-bed ward was noisy. Some children ran around and accidentally knocked her IV out of place, causing her blood to flow back into the tube.

She pressed the call button and asked the doctor when he arrived, "Who brought me in yesterday?"

The doctor was never patient with an ordinary patient. He replied dismissively, "Just a driver. Your hospital fees haven't been paid. Call your family to settle it. Don't think about skipping out."

Dinah's heart trembled.

Her family? She hadn't had any for a long time.

"I'll handle it myself. Just remove the needle for me. Thank you."

She had decided to leave immediately.

While processing her discharge, she overheard whispers behind her.

"She was sent here after she had drugs, the kind that get her excited. The young woman is so wild."

"She didn't even snare a rich guy. She was picked up off the street late at night and brought here. She is so disgusting."

Dinah ignored others' whispers and paid her bill calmly.

Except for the sharp pain in her heart, which reminded her of the real hurt, she appeared normal.

She quietly left the hospital and spent an hour packing her belongings.

Just as she finished folding the last piece of clothing, her phone buzzed incessantly in her pocket.

It was her assistant. "Dinah, the company has transferred all your breach of contract fees and project bonuses to you."

Dinah smiled, but it vanished before it reached her eyes. "Did they fire me?"

The assistant stammered and dared not tell Dinah the truth.

"I never cared about the company," Dinah said.

She worked there just because she wanted to see Jeffrey's eyes at any moment.

The assistant finally cried out. "Dinah, you and Mr. Scott were such a perfect match before. Why did you divorce him? Is it because of Miss White? We can help you..."

"No." Dinah interrupted her. "She's not important enough to influence my decisions. And it has nothing to do with Jeffrey. He isn't important anymore."

From the moment that scar appeared on his eye, nothing mattered anymore.

Seeing the money in her account, she transferred it out without hesitation.
