The divorce process dragged on longer than expected. They had too much property to divide.
That night, Dinah arranged for a caregiver for Jeffrey and moved out of their home.
A whole month passed, and by the time Jeffrey was discharged from the hospital, the property division had been nearly completed.
Jeffrey could return to work as before.
Dinah met him in the elevator at the company.
After a month, Jeffrey had recovered significantly.
However, a large scar ran across his entire eye.
It was ugly.
It was disfiguring.
Dinah even retched.
Jeffrey's face darkened. "Since we're divorced, you shouldn't be working at my company anymore."
Dinah raised her eyebrows and looked at her belongings outside the office door. "Have you kicked me out?"
Jeffrey glanced at her. "Rose likes your office. Didn't you wish me happiness? If you give her the office, you can stay."
Dinah didn't care about such things and asked her assistant to help move her things out.
However, her assistant hesitated. "Dinah, I'm now Rose's assistant..."
Dinah looked at her in surprise but quickly accepted it. "I'll do it myself."
It seemed she would leave sooner than planned.
Jeffrey couldn't stand Dinah's attitude.
He clenched his teeth. "Rose will be working with you in the project department from now on. She'll be hosting the meeting later."
Dinah agreed immediately and personally invited Rose to the meeting.
That evening, the team had dinner together. Dinah extended an invitation to Rose.
She didn't expect Jeffrey, who never attended department dinners, to show up as well.
When Jeffrey spoke with Rose, there was no social distance between them. They were so intimate.
Whatever Rose said brought a smile to Jeffrey's usually cold eyes.
Dinah tightened her grip on her cup.
From the side, his eyes looked as charming as before.
She almost ran away from the room when she got out to have some fresh air.
As soon as she stood still, she heard footsteps behind her.
Rose was watching Dinah with a glass of wine in her hand. "Dinah, did you see it? Jeffrey never attends such an event, but he came because I asked him to. I'm more important to him than you."
Dinah nodded. "I knew it."
Rose was annoyed. "Then why don't you leave as soon as possible?"
Dinah found herself envying Jeffrey, who could move on so soon.
Why could he so easily find a stand-in?
And who could replace Jeff for her now?
Dinah couldn't help but sigh. "Because his eyes are uniquely captivating."
Hearing Dinah's murmur, Rose changed her expression immediately. "Dinah, are you still unwilling to let go of him? I don't care what feelings you have for Jeffrey. You have to cut it off. He only loves me. He'd rather get hurt himself for my sake. Can he do that for you?"
Dinah shook her head. "No, he can't."
Jeffrey didn't love her.
"Then why won't you leave?"
Dinah interrupted Rose. "I'll resign tomorrow. Rose, I won't come back."
Rose's face stiffened.
But she finally held back and handed Dinah a glass of wine.
She raised her glass slightly. "Thank you for what you will do."
As Dinah took the glass to her lips, a sweet scent hit her nose.
Her face suddenly changed, and she smashed the glass onto Rose. "Are you courting death?"
