Chapter 6 Misunderstand

"Did you see it clearly, Smith?"

The old man frowned, very curious about what his assistant had seen. If the information was true, then he should encourage Gabriel to get married soon.

"Yes, that woman came out of Gabriel's house."

"Maybe she's a food delivery person." Mister Hamilton didn't want to jump to conclusions.

"Gabriel never used a food delivery service. Especially since she was wearing Gabriel's coat. There's no way your grandson would voluntarily give his expensive coat to a delivery person ."

Mister Hamilton returned his attention to a photo on Smith's phone. Smith, who was exercising in the morning, did not expect to see this scene. His house being in the same neighborhood as Gabriel made it easy for him to investigate the grandson of Mister Hamilton, his boss.

"No wonder, that boy never agreed to the blind date I planned, apparently the reason was because of that woman." She smiled. "Get some information about that woman. I need to know the profile of my favorite grandson's future wife."

The old man's smile looked happy. Finally he could see Gabriel had a lover.

"But why did that woman leave Gabriel's house in the morning?" His brow furrowed again, a little unsure of his initial conclusion.

"Isn't today a weekday? Most likely she wanted to go home to get ready for work."

"Why didn't Gabriel take his girlfriend?" Mister Hamilton threw another question at his subordinate. "Was she one of the hired women Gabriel hired?"

"Not likely, Mister. Because your grandson never brought those called women's home. He only met them at the hotel."

Mister Hamilton knew his grandson's bad attitude, so he wanted Gabriel to get married and stop doing bad things. He couldn't hide his happiness when he found out that his grandson had a girlfriend. Wasn't there going to be a wedding soon? He was looking forward to his great-grandson, it was his wish before leaving this world.

...

"Meet her at noon." The old man kept a photograph on the table, a picture of a woman.

"Why should I see her? I already told you that I won't come to fulfill your wishes, honorable Mister Hamilton." Gabriel retorted irritably. His jaw hardened, proof that he didn't like his grandfather's idea. He was no longer a child who had to obey everything his grandfather said. Especially the arranged marriage thing that made him so sick. He was an adult, if he needed a partner he would find a woman he loved himself. Although that actually sounded impossible, because the man was never interested in having a serious relationship. For him a legalized relationship is too much of a headache and a waste of time. He would be tied down to just one woman. Sounds scary. He couldn't live without a woman around him.

The old man squinted."You're hiding something from me, aren't you?"

Gabriel turned to his grandfather, then frowned faintly. "What do you mean, Grandfather?"

"The reason you refused to be betrothed was because you already had a lover. Why didn't you ever bring her here? Were you afraid that I wouldn't approve?" Mister Hamilton patted Gabriel on the shoulder. "I am not a conservative old man who would limit his grandson's choices."

Gabriel still didn't understand where his grandfather was going with this. "I really don't understand what you mean?"

The gray-haired man clucked his tongue. "Is she the reason you accepted my offer? Back then, you didn't want to take my place, but a few days ago you suddenly came and agreed to everything. Did someone make you excited to enter the business world?" Mr. Hamilton was enthusiastic. Yes, it was obvious. Knowing that his grandson had a girlfriend made him very excited. He had been waiting for a moment like this for a long time.

"Who does grandfather mean?"

"That woman, the woman who came out of your house this morning. Isn't she one of the employees at the company?"

"A woman?" Gabriel furrowed his brow, digesting the meaning of his grandfather's words. Ah, Gabriel finally understood, his grandfather had misunderstood. However, Gabriel didn't want to set the record straight. With this misunderstanding, his grandfather could stop setting Gabriel up with other women. Wouldn't that be good news for him? It's okay to lie. After all, Bella wouldn't know.

Gabriel looked down, hiding his sly smile. "Ah, apparently Grandpa already knows, huh?" He played along.

The grandfather laughed. "Finally my grandson has a girlfriend." He clapped his hands in joy. "You better not go to hotels with other women again, Gabe. I will be very angry if you hurt your lover. You'd better treat her well."

Gabriel felt a little guilty for lying to his own grandfather. However, he was forced to do this in order to avoid his grandfather's desire to set him up with a strange woman. Gabriel didn't like it, and didn't want to go through with a plan that would be a burden to him.

"Even if Grandfather doesn't tell me, I'll still treat her well. She's my beloved. So I'll take good care of her."

Isn't he a good actor? The man wanted to shout and clap his hands, in appreciation for what he did this time. He managed to fool the old man. Hopefully the old man would continue to believe what he said.

"Apparently you've grown up. I often worry, because you're over thirty years old, but you're still like a child." The old man sighed, then smiled lightly, his gaze flicking to the framed portraits on the wall. The portraits of his late wife, late son and daughter-in-law. "Look at this child, he seems to have grown up." He looked both happy and sad.

As Gabriel's gaze fell on the old family photo, his gaze turned sad, he felt a little guilty. If his parents were still around, he wouldn't have had to do such a dizzying amount of work and undergo such an absurd arranged marriage. His mother would definitely oppose the matchmaking that his father-in-law kept doing for his son.
