Chapter 8 Soulmate

"How come your sweet words become invisible hell for me?"

"Mate? Soulmate?"

'To be honest, Zev's answer just makes me more confused. Does he want to make me a joke or what? Does he want to trust that the relationship between us can be a lover?! That's impossible! I am an assassin and he used to be my target. Okay! I admit that he is a handsome man but being kind of in a relationship with him in a lover way seems really impossible for both of us.' Athena thoughts.

"Kind of."

"I don't want to be your- Arrrghh!"

Athena was shocked and panicked when her leg became numb suddenly as her body almost collapsed if Zev didn't grab her waist in time and Athena accidentally put her hand on his chest.

"Athena, are you alright?"

"Uhm..."

"You can't say something like that. " Zev's voice trembled as if he was worrying about something.

Athena couldn't describe her feelings since she met this man. No one had ever asked her before if she was alright or not beside her brother. Zev made Athena astonished.

'Why did he treat me so kindly? What is his motive? I didn't trust the free meal.'

Her personal experiences have taught her to not trust anyone. It was painful memories for her and she insisted on keeping everything so no one would know.

Zev helped her to sit over the bed before he sat next to her. He also gave her a glass of water but the glass slipped from Athena's hand. The glass was supposed to be broken when it touched the floor but Zev could catch the glass that was still full of water. That scene astonished her because she had ever seen that scene in a well known superhero movie but such a scene happened right in front of her eyes.

"Zev, how-," Athena stopped. She was not sure what she should ask him regarding this matter. "What is that?"

"Athena, drink it first and I will explain to you after you regain your energy." Zev said to her gently. Athena took the glass from his hand and drank it slowly but it didn't relieve the pain that she felt.

"How do you feel?" He asked her.

Zev looked at her with his gentle gaze that created a strange spark in her heart as his palm cupped her jaw and it made her astonished but at the same time, Athena felt a familiar impression that she had ever felt before. Athena could not deny that there was something inside her that wanted to get close to him.

'Am I a pervert if I want him to embrace me right now?'

Athena tried her best to restrict herself from hugging him and it made her look so awkward as he stared at her out of his curiosity.

"Athena, are you okay?" Zev asked Athena again and the answer of course, she was not okay! She was in pain! She wanted Zev to embrace her tightly. She needed him inside her!

Athena was shocked with her dirty mind. Athena had never become like this before and she doesn't want to be like this!

"Athena, tell me if you need something." Zev said while his amber eyes pierced on her before he stood up and he wanted to leave her in this room.

"Where are you going?" She asked him as her voice trembled. Her body was hot but she felt so cold inside. It felt a little bit weird because her instinct said that she needed Zev to make her warm.

"I want to bring a meal for you." Zev said before he took a step forward but Athena held his palm.

'Oh! Stupid me! Why do I have to hold his hand?!' She cursed herself because she felt embarrassed when she held his hand unconsciously meanwhile Zev looked at her confusedly.

"Athena, do you need something?"

"No... you can go, I will wait for you here." Athena tried to not hold him even though that became a conflict inside of her that wanted him more and more. Her head said that she had to behave but her body wanted him for no reason.

'Oh God! I feel like I am going insane!'

Athena saw Zev leave the room and how come her heart was being hurt when she saw his back far and far away from her? That did not make sense at all. Athena felt something terrible had happened to her but she doesn't know who can help her from this invisible hell? It broke her heart into pieces. This kind of feeling was so weird and Athena Xander was not used to it.

Fortunately, Zev came again with a wood tray in his hand and put the tray on the wood table beside the bed before he sat next to her. His gentle gaze stared at her. There was a question that was disturbing her since Zev said that he would not kill her.

She really doesn't understand why a man like him didn't kill an assassin who attempted to kill him? Didn't he mention about mates? Didn't he say that Athena was his mate? Mate? Or soulmate? Starting from a question now becomes a lot of questions that were spinning around in her head and those questions just made Athena's head hurt.

"Athena, my people will protect your brother and you can meet your brother after I explain what happened to us to you."

"Zev, just tell me right now. I need to know what has happened to me!" Athena shouted at him because her heart felt so heavy. It's like she was almost going to explode. Athena wanted to touch him but her pride forbade her to do so.

"I will tell you after you eat your meal. I promised. If you feel so hard, I will be here and you can hold my hand as well." Zev offered her his hand as if he was ready to be held by Athena anytime.

Athena was shocked after hearing what he said because it indicated that Zev Russel knew what exactly had happened to her all this time. Athena was astonished as she grabbed Zev's warm hand.

"Eat now."

Athena doesn't understand since when his voice became an order for her and she just became so obedient when she listened to his calm voice? Athena knew this was not her at all but yet, that woman finished the meal that he brought to her. Athena still held his hand tightly and by holding his hand it reduced the pain that she felt. Zev also helped her to clean the dishes as if he could understand the pain that she felt right now.

"How do you feel right now?" He asked her.

"Better." Athena replied to him shortly.

"That's good. Do you need to take a rest?"

"No need. I want to know everything that I should hear from you." Athena said firmly. Athena knew what she wanted and she wanted an explanation about what had happened to her and she needed a solution.

"Then alright," Zev took a deep breath before he stared at her. "I want to tell you some important things that you should know."

"Just tell me!" Athena felt that her patience was evaporated since Zev was always delaying to let her knew the things that she was supposed to know and she really hates-

'Arrrgh! Does he look at me as a joke?'

"Athena, you can't hate me even though I know, perhaps you keep the grudge in you about me." Zev's evil gaze pointed at that woman and the pain ignited inside her again.

'Is he want to torture me? Is he a witch?'

"I've told you before that you are my mate."

'Why does this guy always talk about 'mate'? I am not an animal. I am human!'

"Zev, I am human. I need a soulmate not a mate. I need a husband! Not a Mate! Do you understand?! "
