Chapter 2 The incident

Standing opposite the grand façade of a five-star hotel, I felt a mix of trepidation and determination. The building exuded elegance, with its tall windows, intricate ironwork, and a beautiful dark red color accented with gold and silver. I took a deep breath, clutching my bag as I checked my outfit to ensure I looked professional and put together.

"I can do this. Just go inside, tell them I'm here for an interview, and then get the job," I reassured myself.

Running my fingers over the hem of my grey pencil skirt, I admired the building once more before walking towards the entrance. I paused, waiting for my racing heart to settle down from the rush of adrenaline.

"Just go in, just go in. You have no choice but to do so anyway. You need this job," I repeated in my head, trying to muster the courage.

Finally, I exhaled sharply and turned the corner to enter the lobby.

"Miss Stone," a voice called from behind me. I whirled around to see a lady dressed in a black and off-white dress. She had brown hair pulled back, revealing her forehead, and her eyes were a bright shade of green.

"Please follow me," she said, gesturing without waiting for my response, and led the way towards an elevator.

As we stepped out of the elevator, I sensed an invisible barrier between us, but her encouraging smile gave me a sense of certainty.

"Thank you for following me, Miss Stone. Your interview is in room seven hundred and twenty-four. Please wait by the door for a minute, as someone will be coming to get you," she instructed.

"Of course," I replied politely. Glancing around the opulent lobby, I couldn't help but notice the extravagance of the surroundings.

Having lived in a one-room apartment since graduating from college, I had always been focused on making ends meet. The sight of such luxury and wealth was something I found difficult to comprehend.

Nearby, a small group stood by one of the windows, gazing out with a curious expression. "Are you here for the interview?" someone inquired from behind me.

I turned in surprise, scanning the familiar face from his torso to his face.

"Yes, I was asked to wait here," I replied, my breath catching in my throat as I realized my mistake. The man before me was the father of my unborn child.

He was taller than me and seemed even stronger too from where I As we stepped out of the elevator, I sensed an invisible barrier between us, but her encouraging smile gave me a sense of certainty. "Thank you for guiding me, Miss Stone. Your interview is in room seven hundred and twenty-four. Please wait by the door for a minute, as someone will be coming to get you," she instructed.

I turned in surprise, scanning the familiar face from his torso to his face.

"Yes, I was asked to wait here," I replied, my breath catching in my throat as I realized my mistake. The man before me was the father of my unborn child.

He was dressed in an impeccably tailored suit, giving him the air of a model rather than an ordinary man in his early thirties.

His greyish-blue eyes held a hint of sadness or perhaps pity as they looked down at me. Heat crept up my neck as I offered a polite smile, but he remained stoic, not returning the gesture.

"I don't usually accept people with low standards into my hotel, but since you're here for an interview, let's proceed," he said with a slight scoff, his gaze lingering on my outfit.

"Low standards." The words reverberated in my mind.

I followed him, feeling a mix of confusion and hurt. I had mistaken him for the stranger, and his reaction towards me was laced with disdain and pity.

I quickly pushed the negative thoughts aside, refusing to let them consume me. I needed to secure this job, for the sake of my unborn child.

As I entered room seven hundred and twenty-four, the assistant led me inside. Five individuals were seated in the middle of the room, two men and one woman, each offering polite and warm greetings as I reciprocated.

Among the gentlemen, one stood out with his wild, tousled mess of light blonde hair, a stark contrast to the formal attire he wore.

I smiled kindly at him and took the last available seat, focusing on the ongoing conversation. The man directly across from me introduced himself as Daniel Kline, the head of Security and Technology.

"I'm sure you've heard of my business already, but I'd love to properly introduce myself to a young lady interested in joining our company," he said.

"Thank you, Mr. Kline," I replied, stealing a glance at the man whom I presumed to be the father of my unborn child. He sat opposite me and pulled out a file, presumably mine.

After a long and somewhat awkward introduction, they finally informed me that I had been accepted for the job.

As I made my way out of the room and down the hallway, a mix of relief and anxiety washed over me. My heart pounded as I pushed open the large double doors to exit, but before I could step out, my hands were roughly grabbed, and a sharp pain shot through my skin, causing a searing sensation.

I was forcefully pulled out of the room and pushed against the wall, causing a small trickle of blood to run from my nose. The man holding onto my arm tightly leaned in close to my face and accused me, "You selfish human, you took the job my daughter had been applying for. Who do you think you are?"

"I'm sorry, sir," I apologized, feeling bewildered by his reaction. He released my arm and stepped back, allowing me to move away from him. It was then that I realized his identity.

"Mr. Carson?" I asked in disbelief, my jaw dropping as I recognized the man who had been the cause of my termination from my previous job. I vividly remembered the heated argument and how he had favored his daughter over me, leading to my dismissal.

His eyes bore into mine, and I felt a lump form in my throat from the intensity of his gaze. He let out a loud sigh and rubbed his forehead with his fingers. "You should be ashamed of yourself, you little prey. I promise you won't get away with this."

A small crowd gathered around us, drawn in by the commotion. I was left speechless, feeling like I was living in a surreal nightmare. This whole incident was enough to ruin any chance of working at the prestigious GG Supreme five-star hotel.

As the crowd grew, the press jostled to get a clear view of my shocked expression and the man threatening to sabotage my new job.

Desperate to escape the chaos, I felt a hand grab mine from behind and pull me towards a waiting black limousine. I looked up to see a stranger opening the car door and urging me to get in quickly.

Before I knew it, we were driving away from the crowd and onto the open road.
