I should have stood my ground against taking a break, I had no right to according to the Alpha and his mother. I bit my lips, waiting for his brutal verdict. I was so shake my fear and nerves that I had to clasp my hands to prevent them from quivering.
"I asked you a question, Tasyra. What are you doing?" His tone was low but the rage could still be heard in the voice.
I kept mute, unable to reply, my head was still lowered. The ground was far more interesting than the foreboding expression he was wearing, and worse, it was aimed at me.
"The Alpha is talking to you." Zaryn stepped forward and pushed me roughly, I almost hit the ground if not for Fagel's reflexive grab of my arm.
I heard a deep, violent growl. "Let her go."
It was chilling and bone rattling. Fagel immediately let go off me, I heard him mutter an apology to the Alpha.
"Tasyra!" His voice rose an octave with a deep, meaningful threat the he would certainly fulfill if I kept him mute again.
But what did he want me to tell him? I was eating, he had caught me. What was more to say? I raised my head slowly to his face, it was menacing. Risking a glance at Zaryn, she clung closer to him. It was intentionally done to make me react negatively, and it did hurt me to see him allowing some other girl cling that tight to him when I was the true mate. I was the one the Moon Goddess had blessed him with.
Zaryn should not be anywhere near the Alpha, it was supposed to me. I was his mate, not her. But I did not have the courage to tell him that, just as I did not have the courage to ask him about his change of behavior towards me.
"Y-yes Alpha." I kept my gaze fixed on his chest, I could not meet his deadly eyes.
And from how silent everywhere had gone, it was easy to guess that every eye was on us. They were waiting to watch, to witness what was going to happen. Another public humiliation that was uncalled for was going to happen.
"I asked you, what are you doing?" His angry eyes were still on me.
"I...I...I was having a...break" I sighed. The words seemed so simple but they could not leave my lips so easily, because I had done what I was not allowed to do.
"Who ordered you to have one?" Every passing statement, his voice grew more cold. More chilling.
I shook my head, really regretting my choice.
"I'm sorry Alpha, I did. It's not her fault, Alpha. She disagreed initially but I pestered her to. I'm really sorry." Fagel jumped, trying to defend me. But he was not as audacious as he had been before the Alpha came.
The Alpha turned on him with a very dangerous look in his eyes. "What's your name, young man?"
"F-fagel, Alpha." The tremor in his voice coil be heard.
I hope he did not order for Fagel to be punished, the kind fellow was only trying to help. This was why people rarely helped me. In fact, to be truthful, no one had ever so benevolently helped me, and this was majorly the reason. Whoever was seen close to me was usually berated or some times, punished. No one would want to keep being punished for my sake.
"Do you want to be free from my punishment?" He questioned, still giving Fagel a hard stare.
"N-no Alpha." Replied Fagel.
"Then you will focus on your job and no one else's, you hear me?" He ordered through gritted teeth, stepping forward a bit.
Fagel was wise enough to take steps backward. "Y-yes, Alpha." He bowed, but I didn't think the lowering of his head, this time, was out of respect. It was almost like a regular activity born out of duty.
"What the Alpha is saying is he does not ever want to see you with her, so stay away." Zaryn and her obnoxious self put in, pointing fingers at Fagel who nodded.
I was tempted to say a word to her but fear of what the Alpha would do was holding me back. I wish Zaryn would mind her business. She was not even married to the Alpha yet and she was already behaving like she built the pack.
Why would the Alpha not want me to have friends? Why? Why was him and his mother pushing me into the depth of isolation? Did they want me to be alone forever? I wanted to say something. To defend myself and Fagel, especially against Zaryn. She was making trouble for me, she had joined the Alpha and his mother, planned with them to ruin my life.
"But she was hungry." Fagel countered, though politely.
"What did you just say?" Zaryn looked murderous, probably because she wanted to be respected like the Alpha too.
Out of the corner of my eyes, I watched her next action because I didn't trust her one bit. She could do whatever she wanted to me, but not to the guy who was nice to me. I saw her lunge at her with a slap, but I was quick enough to step in the way, the slap landed on my face.
"Are you okay, Tasyra?" Fagel came close to hold me.
Another low, menacing growl was heard. We both jolted, and he moved away from me. I held my cheek that stung so bad from Zaryn's hit.
"Touch her one more time, and you're dead!"
The threat came as a shock that I turned to look at him, even Zaryn was quite shocked as was Fagel too.
Was that possessiveness I just heard in his tone?
