Chapter 5 Unexpected Attraction

EMMA'S POV

It was sealed, I'm getting married to my boss. I felt my heart palpitate harder and harder as I walked out of his office. I couldn't stop myself from grinning so sheepishly, because that little gesture of getting me food, meant a lot to me, because the little things mattered the most.

It was well past closing hour, so most of my colleagues were gone already. I walked over to my desk, picked up my jacket which was hung around my leather chair, packed my bags, and was set to leave. I took the elevator down to the ground floor and just as I was about to get a taxi, Alex pulled up in front of me.

"Get in," he said, I looked back trying to figure out if he was talking to someone else. "You, yes you silly, now get in," he said as he laughed. I got in and he drove off. "Are you trynna kidnap me or something?" I said jokingly, "There's no need to kidnap my bride, you're already mine" he replied. I felt my heart skip a beat, because who could have thought the ruthless and viscous Alexander Reed could be a sweet gentleman?

"So where are we headed?" I asked, "for a drive sweetie" he replied. Sweetie??, we're already using pet names?, well that was fast, I thought to myself as I smirked. "Wherever you're taking me, be sure to get me back home before my bedtime," I said as we both laughed.

We drove for a couple of hours in silence, just enjoying the night breeze and the sound of the hustle and bustle of the city. "What's your dream home like?" he asked, breaking the silence. "My dream home? I don't hold too much expectation or standards, I just want a place where I can find peace and ease after a stressful day at work, a place where I'm excited to head back to" I replied, sticking my arm out the window, and enjoying the wind.

" your mentality is quite intriguing," he said. "Thank you, I'm a smart woman, you shouldn't expect any lesser" I replied and we giggled. " and you? what's your dream home like?" I asked in return. "Oh well, just a place where I can be me, and not this carefully constructed façade". That held a lot of meaning to me and I fully understood what he meant.

A couple of minutes later, he pulled over. We were at mine already. "Thank you for your time, but it's bedtime now baby girl," he said as he got out of the car. He went around the car and held open the door for me, "my lady" he said. "Oh c'mon," I said as I chuckled and stepped out of the car.

"Have a splendid night" he said, "you too gentleman" I replied, as I walked away into my apartment. I stood and watched from my front yard as he got back into the car, waved, and zoomed off. I was so exhausted because damn, I just had one hell of a day and it sure wasn't going to get any better, moving forward.

I took off my heels and walked barefoot into my apartment. "B***h!, I almost started to think you got lost on your way home" Sarah screamed from a distance. I chuckled as I walked over to the fridge, dumping my bags on the couch to get myself a soda.

I buried myself on the couch in the living room as I sipped my soda. Sarah walked over and sat right next to me, stuffing her face with a bowl of popcorn. "What's up babes?, you look like you were run over by a train," she said, "I'm getting married, that's what's up" I replied. She jumped up and screamed spilling the bowl of popcorn over.

"Are you serious right now?" She asked, "Yes b***h, I am" I replied. She ran around across the length of the room childishly singing "Emma's getting married, Emma's getting married". I chuckled as I rolled my eyes at her. I picked up my bags from the other end of the couch, went in for a shower, and headed straight to bed.

It was 7:50 am the next morning and I was supposed to be at work by 8:30 am. Bulls!, I'mma be late for work. For the first time in years, I felt a sense of excitement, I was excited to go to work! that has never happened. I hurriedly got out of bed, washed up, and got dressed for work.

Sarah already made me a cup of hot coffee, she could be such a darling when she decides to. "Thanks, hun," I said, as I grabbed the cup of coffee and ran off. "You're welcome Mrs Reed" I heard her scream at the top of her voice from a distance.

I had a taxi drop me off at work, I tipped the driver and ran off into the building. I got into the elevator and just as the doors were about to close shut someone stopped it, it was Alex, my soon-to-be husband. Damn, that was cheesy, I chuckled. "Morning Emma" he greeted, "morning Mr. Alex" I replied.

"You can drop the formalities now," he said, " might take a minute to get used to that, but alright" I replied. We went up the rest of the way in silence till we got to the penthouse. " you look like my grandma" he said, "just kidding hun, you look ravishing in that purple dress" he said, as he grinned and walked away towards his office. "Thank you" I murmured.

I had little to no task at work today, and in no time it was closing hour already. I packed my bags already on my way out when Alex out of now where, grabbed me by the arm. "We have somewhere to be sweetie," he said, not minding the stares we were getting from my other coworkers.

We drove a couple of miles, stopped over at an eat-out to get something to eat, then pulled over at an open field. We ate, drank, chatted, and even played games in the open just enjoining the greenery of nature. It was quite unexpected, but Alex and I had so much in common and we didn't even realize it until now. It felt good.
