Chapter 4 Contract Signing

EMMA'S POV

I must be insane, b***h you're crazy!, I thought to myself as I walked out of his office almost missing my steps. My days, I cannot believe I just agreed to contract marriage with my boss! My entire life is about to be one hell of a rollercoaster ride.

I needed to get myself together, the deed had been done. I still had a couple more tasks for the day, so I went off to attend to them. I was halfway through the hallway when I ran into the vicious Victoria Carter, Alexander's ex-girlfriend.

Every staff at Reed's enterprise despised Victoria. She was rude and ill-mannered, always popping gums so loud regardless of where she was. Her aura was fierce, and she effortlessly carried unease wherever she went. She bumped into me as my mind was lost in space, leaving the documents I was holding scattered all over the place on the floor.

"Oops!, your bad," she said rudely. I ignored her and reached out to pick up the documents that fell. I would love to see the look on her face when she finally hears about the marriage between Alexander and me because we all knew though they broke up, she was still very invested in Alex.

It was 2:30 pm and I was done with my task for the day. Oh well, I guess I'm stuck here for the next two and half hours till it's closing hour. I leaned back into my leather chair behind my desk, grabbed my phone, and texted my best friend, William Sullivan. To see if we could link up after work. It's been forever since I saw him last, and I so needed his words of comfort and advice.

ALEXANDER'S POV

I was working on my computer when I started to hear the footsteps of someone approaching my office. I also heard the sound of gum being popped. Victoria!, I said to myself as I sunk into my chair, here we go again.

Victoria and I ended things over 6 months ago but somehow, she was still deluded that we could still work things out. I made things crystal clear to her over and over but she was persistent. Just as I expected, she barged into the room without even knocking.

"Hi baby, missed me?" She asked with a flirty grin on her face, "Obviously not" I replied as I rolled my eyes at her, "How can I help you?" I added. "You look quite ravishing in that blue tuxedo for someone who just lost his father, don't you think?" She said, completely ignoring the question.

"Oh spare me! what brings you to my office Victoria?" I asked losing my patience. "Well, my condolences, but I heard about the content of your father's will," she said, "alright, but how does that have anything to do with you?" I asked. She moved closer and sat at the edge of my table, her short skirt moving up a few inches and revealing her thighs.

"Oh, don't play house with me Alexander, you know where I'm going," she said. I laughed because truly, I knew where she was headed. "C'mon Alex, who else is a better fit for you, if not me?" She said. "You're delusional Victoria", " we ended things over 6 months ago. Now my father is dead, living me with a will that attaches my life course to a contract marriage, and of all the women in the world, you're delusional enough to think I would pick you?" I asked as I scoffed.

"Wake up Victoria. Now if I may, I have business to attend to" I said as I got back to working on my computer. "You won't be left with much of a choice," she said as she furiously stormed out of the room. Well, we shall see how that plays out, I thought to myself with a smirk on my face.

A few hours later, I was done with all the work I had to do for the day. I headed over to the nearest eat out, and got two plates of Mac and cheese for Emma and me. On my way back to my office, I ran into Emma. "Meet me in my office in 10," I said to her, "alright sir" she replied and went off to wherever.

I was just about to dig into my meal when Emma walked in. "Sit," I said, as I handed her the second plate of Mac and cheese I got. "Would you like me to microwave it for you, sir?" She asked as she stood across from me. "No silly, that's yours. Now sit" I said and we both laughed.

"Thank you, it's quite thoughtful of you," she said, "You're welcome Emma" I replied. I saw her eyes light up as she peeked into the plate, and I grinned for a moment. "You're a fan?" I asked still grinning, "Definitely, been craving this for a while, great pick!" She said and we both laughed again. "Dig in," I said.

We were both done eating and for a moment the silence became so awkward. "I drafted out a contract for our marriage," I said, finally breaking the silence. "Uhm, Alright" she replied. I got up, walked over to my table, picked up the contract which was beneath a pile of documents, and handed it over to her.

For a few minutes, she slowly read through the contract, when she was done, she leaned back into the couch and just stared into space in silence. "What's wrong?" I asked, "nothing much, just trying to catch a glimpse of what my life is going to be like moving forward" she replied.

" I would do everything I can to protect you Emma, I promise". I could tell she was scared of the unknown, but I was ready to protect her at all costs. "Can I have a pen?" She said, "oh, sure" I said. I handed her a pen, she signed the contract and turned it over in my direction, and handed me the pen. I signed the contract and it was a deal.
