Chapter 5 I Want To Kiss You Laura

Laura lowered her gaze and sniffed in. She was a disappointed to her mother. Mrs Smith just sat on the sofa, pondering on what her daughter had just told her. Yes, Laura had to explain everything to her mother.

Katie folded her arms, leaning on the wall. She yawned and stretched repeatedly because of how sleepy she was.

“You should go to bed Katie. You shouldn’t listen to your sister’s story. You must not have bad luck like she does” Mrs Smith said. Katie frowned but answered her mother because she was sleepy. As she head to her room, she smiled at her sister who also smiled weirdly at her.

Mrs Smith shot Tyler a hard glare.

“You! Who are you?” She asked.

Tyler raised his head up high. Sometimes, he usually forget to act like he was poor.

“I’m Tyler” he replied, slipping his hands into his pocket. Mrs Smith frowned and walked towards him.

“You ended up marrying my daughter even as a mere bar attendant. You think you can spend her money because she got married to you. No! As long as I’m this house, you’ll work for her money”

“What do you mean ma’am? I never even wanted to marry your daughter”

“Then why did you sleep with her?!”

“I didn’t….”

“That’s enough! Just keep quiet, all of you!” Laura yelled. She started breathing hard. She gazed at her mother with tears in her eyes.

“I know I’ve wronged you mom. I’ve done something bad, things I’m not supposed to do. But please, don’t punish him. It’s late now, you should rest” she said and pulled Tyler’s hand into the room. She let go of his hand and locked the door behind. On returning to her bed, Tyler grabbed her hand. She stopped and stood for some seconds before turning to stare at her.

“Listen to me Laura, I didn’t do anything that…”

“It’s okay. Even if you did or didn’t, it can’t undo the past. Get to sleep now” she said and freed herself from his grip. Tyler watched her as she walked to her bed and laid down. She turned off the lights and dozed off. Tyler sighed deeply and thought of his father and brothers. He’s sure that they are enjoying the news of his sudden disappearance, including his step mother.

Frank woke up very early and saw Aly still asleep on the bed. A frown appeared on his face as he got out of bed. He quickly showered and got ready for work but she was still asleep.

“Aly? Aly?” He called out.

Aly rolled on the bed till she got to the edge. She groaned and sat up, rubbing her eyes with the back of her palms. She blinked repeatedly and scratched the back of her head. It was evident that she was still feeling sleepy.

“Aly?!” The last call made her shook with fear.

“Frank? What happened?” She asked, throwing her feet down the bed.

“Aren’t you supposed to wake up earlier than this to make me breakfast before I leave for work?” He asked.

“Breakfast? Like what?” She asked, confused. She didn’t know she was supposed to cook. She also didn’t know how to cook anything.

“Make some toast and bacon” he said and folded his arms.

“Oh, okay” she murmured and walked towards the door.

“Wait” he stopped her. She turned and stared at him.

“You don’t know how to cook, do you?” He asked. Aly bit her lower lips.

“I promise, I’ll learn how to cook. Just give me some time” she pleaded with him.

“Argh!” Frank grabbed his phone and car keys and head out of the house.

“Frank? Frank, wait please” she called him back but Frank didn’t even wait. He unlocked the door and left the mansion. Aly flickered her tongue and walked back to the room. She fell back on the bed and smiled.

“Finally! Some peace!” She muttered.

Laura left for the office early. That made living in the house very difficult for Tyler. He was adjusting his shirt while staring at the mirror when there was a loud bang on the door.

“Tyler! Come out! Now!”

He already knew it was his mother inlaw. He sighed and walked to the door, opening it wide.

“Good morning Mrs…”

“Don’t you dare greet me. All I wanted was for my daughter to get married to Frank or any rich man not a wretched man like you. Well, I didn’t call you for this. Who are you expecting to clean the house? Go now! Make the house spotless!” She pointed outside the room.

“Yes ma’am” he said and left to start cleaning.

Laura stepped her foot inside her office building. She was wearing a white female suit, one of the best designs in the country. She got it as a gift from Frank last year. She didn’t even understand why she was wearing it.

“Look who is here, my very own boss!” Mark announced.

“Congratulations ma’am”

“Congratulations Mrs Laura”

Her employees greeted.

“Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. I’ll treat everyone to lunch today” she announced. Everyone cheered. A smile crept on her face. She was loved by a lot of people.

“You see how happy they are Laura. Let’s go to your office. I’m sure it misses you so much” Mark teased her. She smirked and walked to her office. She hung her bag and jacket and walked to her seat.

Staring at her filled desk, she gave a loud sigh.

“This is going to take a lot of time. I can’t believe I have more contracts than before”

“The marketing team is doing well. Everyone wants to work with you” Mark said, chewing his gum loudly. Laura was already used to his gum chewing.

“I’ll take a look at them. Get me a cup of hot coffee while I work on this” she said.

“You got it girl!” Mark winked and left. Laura chuckled and started looking at the contracts before her. The first document she opened turned out to be the first she received last week. It was from Frank’s company. They were also going to make deals even if they were a ‘thing’

But what about now? They are no longer a thing.

Her phone vibrated. She picked it up and stared at the caller ID.

“Frank? What does he want?” She asked herself. There was no other reason for him to call other than this document.

She answered the call and placed it on her ear.

“Hello?”

“I’m glad you finally picked up. I wanted to ask about my deal. Are you going to go ahead with it or quit it?” He asked.

“You proposed the deal, not me. If you want to call it off, the ball is in your court” she said.

“I’m close to your office. I’ll stop by. See you soon” he said and disconnected the call.

“Hey! Don’t come…argh! I hate him so much! He’s annoying!” She slipped her fingers into her hair and groaned in frustration.

Tyler sat on the floor, trying to catch some breath. He has been working since Mrs Smith sent him out of the room.

“Tired?” Katie asked. He raised his head and stared at her. He lowered his gaze and nodded his head. Katie squatted beside him.

“ My mom is a bit harsh” she said.

“Bit? Tch” he snorted and wiped the sweat on his forehead with the back of his hand.

Katie chuckled.

“You’re a good man”

“What makes you think so?”

“I don’t know. I’ve been with guys all my life, I can tell the difference between the good one and the bad one”

“Hmm” he exhaled deeply and sprung up.

“I need to get back to work. I don’t want your mother scolding me”

“ I’m sorry for what you’re going through”

“It’s fine” he smiled weirdly and left her. Katie watched him as he walked away. A smirk appeared on her face.

“Hmmm… Tyler”

After some minutes, Frank arrived at Laura’s office. Mark saw him and closed his mouth in surprise.

“Oh my goodness, our boss husband is here” he announced. Everyone started talking about Frank. They even greeted him.

“Congratulations sir!”

“Congratulations sir!”

“Treat our boss well” they chanted.

Frank wore a fake smile on his face.

“Sure, I will. I’ll take care of your lunch today” he said.

“What? It’s just like they are destined to be. Boss and sir wants to treat us to lunch” Mark said. They all giggled. Frank found his way to Laura’s office. He barged in without even knocking. Laura was clearing some old files on her table when Frank walked in. He paused when he saw the dress she had worn. He didn’t know when he gave a slight smile.

“Come in” Laura said.

“Thanks” he walked in and sat opposite her. Now, they were acting formal with each other.

“About the contract…”

“Do you want to sign it or not? We could be partners even if we are no longer together” Laura said. There was no glimpse of smile on her face. Frank exhaled deeply.

“Why did you do it?” He asked. She frowned and furrowed her eyebrows.

“Do what?” She asked.

“You shouldn’t have gone to the club that night. We could have been together now”

“Let what’s in the past remain in the past Frank. You’ve moved on, so have I” she said. Frank stood up from his seat and walked towards her chair.

“Don’t come close to me Frank” she said. Frank didn’t listen. He went closer to her. Laura stood up, wanting to run away but he grabbed her hand and pinned her to her desk.

Her gaze was fixed on him with her heart racing fast.

“I wish I didn’t let you go, I wish I didn’t see those pictures she sent to me”

“What are you saying?” Laura asked. Frank leaned his hand on the desk, drawing his face close to Laura’s face. Her eyes widened but she moved away from her.

“I want to kiss you Laura. Please” he pleaded.
