Chapter 8 Her Request

"Are you okay?" Laura asked Tracey after Weston and Jade left. Of course, she was also stunned by the conversation she had just witnessed.

She couldn't believe that the woman she hired was Weston's ex-wife.

"I'm fine," Tracey replied, smiling bitterly. Withdrawing her gaze from the direction that Weston left, she clenched her fists and pretended to be calm.

She had thought that she had managed to forget about Weston, but now that she saw him after a year, she realized that she still had feelings for him.

"Tracey, if I had known about your relationship with Mr. Xiao, I..." Laura started, but then changed her mind and fell quiet.

"I'm sorry," Tracey said. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you about it before. I'm sorry for causing trouble.

I was afraid you wouldn't hire me if I told you about my relationship with Weston."

It was the truth.

At the time, Tracey truly was in desperate need of a shelter.

Laura, however, was now in a dilemma. As a woman, she understood and sympathized with Tracey, but as the manager of the club, she knew she couldn't let her stay.

Weston was a diamond VIP, and even though Laura wanted to keep Tracey, she would never be able to explain it to her boss.

So, finally, she sighed and said, "Tracey, the Platinum Club is not an ordinary place. You and Mr. Xiao... Even if you stay here..."

"Laura, I meant what I just said," Tracey interrupted her. "Just give me three days before you tell the boss. If I don't make it, I'll leave on my own."

Seeing Tracey's determination, Laura couldn't refuse. "Okay. You have three days," she said.

Tracey had been learning to sing and dance since she was ten years old.

Before she married Weston, she had even been scouted by an agent. He told her that she could make it big in the entertainment business with her outstanding appearance and exquisite singing, but she had refused.

She didn't want to be a singer. She just wanted to be Weston's wife.

Now, she clearly couldn't dance, considering her ruined leg, but she could still sing.

When the video of her performance at the club was uploaded on the internet, it exploded. In just two hours, it had gained more than a million views, and the comments were overwhelmingly positive.

The Platinum Club took advantage of it and put up a poster of Tracey, announcing her performances. Night after night, the hall would fill with guests.

Many people came to listen to her sing, and to do so, they had to become club members. Laura was very happy to see this.

So after three days, the boss, Carlos Shen, finally heard the news about their new singer. That night, after she was finished, he called Tracey to his private room.

"Mr. Shen," Tracey said when she entered. She had heard about him before and she was surprised to see that he didn't look like a rogue at all. Instead, he was kind and modest.

"Just call me Carlos," he told her, patting the seat next to him. When Tracey sat down, he said, "Laura told me about you and your bet with Weston. I didn't think you would make it, but you really are something. The revenue has increased by at least thirty percent, all thanks to you."

He paused as he poured a glass of red wine for her, but then he continued, "I've already told Laura that you can stay and continue singing here. As for Weston..."

He paused again, this time taking a sip of his own wine. "Don't worry. I will do my best to protect you from him," he said finally.

"Thank you," Tracey said, breathing a sigh of relief.

Carlos smiled and said, "You're welcome. But I should be the one to thank you instead. After all, you're the one who has been filling my club. You know what? I will tell Laura to double your salary. What do you think?"

At this, Tracey hesitated for a while, but then she said, "I don't need a raise, but I do have a request."

"Tracey!" Laura scolded her. "Don't push it."

After all, Carlos was not an ordinary man.

He had contacts all over the city, even in the underworld, and no one could ever guess what he was thinking.

Not even Laura would dare to cross him, so she thought that Tracey should just accept what he was offering her.

She couldn't understand her at all.

"It's okay," Carlos waved it off, not bothered at all.

In truth, he admired Tracey's courage. Not everyone would dare to make a request like that.

"Tell me. What do you want?" he asked.

"I..." Tracey started, but now that she was aware that she was overstepping, she was much more hesitant. Still, after clearing her throat, she said, "My request is actually very simple. I would like to ask you to help me find someone. I know you have a lot of connections..."

"Find someone? Is that all?"

Carlos asked, stunned by the modesty of the request. He had expected something much more extravagant.

"Yes, I would like to find someone. Dead or alive. And I don't think I would be able to do it on my own," Tracey explained.

After all, she had no money and no connections. She would simply be searching blindly, trying to find a needle in a haystack.

"Well, who is it?" Carlos asked, slowly getting interested.

Tracey had given up a large amount of money in exchange for his help.

He knew that she had just been released from prison, so he wondered what kind of person would make her want to give up on the money she so desperately needed.

"William Xiao," Tracey finally said.

"Weston's brother?" Carlos definitely hadn't expected to hear that particular name.

"Do you know him?"

"I've heard about him. Back then... William and Weston... Forget it. It's all in the past," Carlos said, and they both fell into silence.
