Chapter 9 The Mother-in-law

"Well, don't forget to tell me when you turn eighteen," Murray joked.

"No way! You can't do anything to me even if I turn eighteen." Nancy glared at him.

"What are you thinking? Or are you actually expecting me to do something to you?" he teased.

Nancy was still young. Being teased like that, she was so angry that her face turned red.

Murray was excited to watch her face redden with rage. He wanted to continue flirting with her. However, his phone rang.

Murray's eyes lit up when he saw the name on the caller ID.

"Honey, it's only been a while since we parted. Do you miss me already?"

Nancy's jaw dropped in shock. She was sure that her brother-in-law had changed into a brazen person.

Janice was equally shocked. She didn't think that her so-called husband would flirt with her. After a moment's pause, she said, "Come home right now. Mom is here!"

Nancy went to attend the party, so Murray took a taxi home.

Meanwhile, a group of men dressed in black dragged the goons who were after Murray and Nancy to the underground parking lot of the Platinum Palace.

Gerald's men panicked when they saw the men in black suits.

"S...sir... What can I do for you?" the bald man croaked.

He had been in the underworld for many years but had never encountered a big troop of enemies before.

"Are you from the Heaven Aqua?"

"Yes." The bald man wiped the sweat beads off his forehead.

He finally understood that Sean had the support of powerful people.

"Good! Attack them!"

Murray didn't bother finding out about what happened at the Platinum Palace.

He knew that his one phone call was enough to make them all suffer for offending him.

As expected, his phone chimed with a message, as soon as he got into the taxi. Murray opened it and saw a string of incomprehensible symbols and codes that only people within his organization could decipher.

"Boss, it's done." He deciphered the message and breathed a sigh of relief.

A couple of minutes later, Murray arrived at the Glorious Bay. He saw two cars parked near the gate of the villa. One was an Audi that Janice usually kept in the garage, and the other was a red BMW that matched the taste of a middle-aged woman.

Murray got out of the taxi and took a deep breath. He quickly straightened his shirt and smoothed his uncombed hair before entering the house.

He was a little nervous about meeting his mother-in-law for the first time.

Murray wondered

if Janice's mother liked Sean.

Meanwhile, Janice and Ingrid Wang were sitting face to face in the living room. The atmosphere was thick with tension.

"I told what I had to. The ball is in your court now. Are you going to spend the rest of your life with such a loser? Sean isn't good for you in any way!" Ingrid grunted as she took a sip of her coffee.

"I don't care how useless Sean is. He is still my husband," Janice replied coldly.

She never understood why her mother was never close to her.

She had envied the children who didn't have to make an effort to get their mother's love.

Janice had always tried her best to get her mother's attention and care. But Ingrid never cared about her even though she was better than her elder brother and her younger sister in every way.

"Your husband? Janice, were you willing to marry him in the first place?" Ingrid scoffed derisively.

"If your grandfather hadn't threatened to kill himself, would you have agreed to marry him? Stop fooling yourself. Don't force yourself to live a life that you don't want.

I even spoke to your grandfather about it. He is also disappointed in Sean after the accident. All you have to do is just talk to him. I am sure he will allow you to divorce him.

Think about what I told you, Janice. You are still young. Free yourself from your marriage with the loser. You are smart and beautiful. Many wonderful men would deem themselves lucky to be with you.

Take Zack, for example. He is a good guy. I know he likes you. The man is not only good-looking, but he is also the chairman of the YH Group. His achievements are commendable.

Your company is going through a crisis, am I right? If you are with Zack, he will help you out. You don't have to worry about anything,"

Ingrid said earnestly.

She had spent a lot of time and energy persuading her daughter to divorce Sean.

However, Janice was stubborn and never listened to her.

Janice looked at her mother in disbelief. She was surprised that her mother would ask her to marry Zack.

Everyone knew the man well and what he was capable of doing.

Zack was a notorious philanderer in H City. He used his money and power to do whatever he wanted in the city.

Janice didn't want to ruin her life by marrying him.

Moreover, she didn't want to marry or divorce anyone for such silly reasons.

"I won't divorce Sean," Janice said firmly.

Divorcing Sean had crossed her mind, but now wasn't the right time.

Murray heard their conversation from afar. His face darkened in an instant.

Parents usually persuaded their children to keep their marriage intact even if their life fell apart. But his mother-in-law was asking Janice to divorce him.

His lips curled up in a sneer. Life had given him another chance. There was no way he would let her divorce him.

"Oh, Mom, you are here."

Murray smiled at the strange woman as he entered the living room.

Ingrid was in her mid-forties. She looked fit and healthy. Judging from her features, one could tell that she would have been beautiful in her early years.

Ingrid scrunched her nose up in distaste as she sized Murray up. Sean's accident had been the best news in recent times.

She thanked God for taking the loser's life. But she didn't think that the man would be lucky enough to survive a gruesome accident.

Her son-in-law was the biggest problem of her family.

"You are lucky to be alive. Don't join a race if you can't drive. You are a shameless guy, but the Tang family isn't. Our reputation is our most valuable asset."

Ingrid despised Sean. She didn't know why the man chose to stay with them even after all the insult and humiliation.

Janice breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Murray. But she couldn't understand why his presence comforted her.

"Mom, haven't you heard lucky people always survive?

I am, standing before you, alive because I'm lucky. Otherwise, I would not have married Janice."

Murray walked to Janice, sat beside her and held her hand tenderly.

Janice's body stiffened; she wanted to withdraw her hand.

"Honey, we need to keep up the act!" Murray whispered in her ear.

Janice's skin prickled as his hot breath blew in her ear. She took a deep breath and decided to play along.

That was the only way to put an end to her mother's desire to get them divorced.

Seeing that Janice didn't resist anymore, Murray boldly pinched and caressed her hand.

"Mom, I think you are aging backward. At first glance, I thought you were a girl in her twenties."

Murray was good at flattering people.

But he didn't know if his mother-in-law was worth the effort.

Janice looked at him in disbelief. The man had learned to please others.

But she knew that it wouldn't work. Her mother despised him.

"Don't think that I will fall for your flatteries and be nice to you. You have made a fool of yourself and the Tang family. You don't deserve to sit here. Kneel down!" Ingrid spat venomously.

Anger surged through her veins when she saw Janice and Sean holding hands.

Did their relationship get better?

Janice's face darkened. "Mom, what's wrong with you?"

Although Ingrid despised Sean, he was still her husband.

Murray stared right back at his mother-in-law.

'Sean's mother-in-law is quite interesting!' he thought.
