Chapter 5 A Second Chance at Life

A few hours later, under the cover of night, Vivian and Dominic stood at the edge of a secluded lake. The moon cast an eerie glow over the water, reflecting the cold, calculated expressions on their faces. They had waited for darkness to conceal their crime, ensuring no one would see them disposing of Naomi's body.

Vivian watched as the lifeless form of Naomi disappeared beneath the water's surface, a satisfied smirk playing on her lips. "She should have kept her mouth shut and stayed in the hospital. Why did she have to come home?" she muttered, suspicion lacing her voice.

Dominic, still staring at the lake, sighed heavily. "No one must know about this apart from the two of us. If word gets out, I'm finished. We're both finished."

Vivian turned to Dominic and wrapped her arms around him, pressing a reassuring kiss on his lips. "No one will find out, I promise. We have each other now. They won't find any evidence against us, and you'll be the next CEO of Carson World."

Dominic nodded, his eyes dark with determination. "Thank you, my love. We need to get out of here."

Vivian took one more look at the lake, her smirk widening. "I told you, I always win. You should never have been born."

As they walked away, the water's surface calmed, hiding the dark deed they had committed. Naomi's body sank deeper and deeper into the depths of the lake. The cold water enveloped her, pulling her further into its embrace.

Then a faint, ethereal light began to shine around her. The darkness of the lake receded, replaced by a warm, comforting glow. Naomi's consciousness flickered, and she heard a familiar, soothing voice.

"My dear Naomi, do not fear, this is not the end."

It was her grandmother's voice, filled with strength and warmth that brought tears to Naomi's eyes even in her unconscious state.

"You have been given a second chance. Those who hurt you will pay for their sins. You are not someone to be messed with, my child. Rise and reclaim your life."

The light grew brighter, wrapping around Naomi like a protective cocoon. Her body, once lifeless, began to stir. The surrounding water shimmered, infused with the powerful energy of her grandmother's love and guidance.

As the light enveloped her completely, Naomi felt a surge of strength and determination. She was given a second chance, a chance to seek justice and make those who wronged her pay. She would rise from the depths stronger than ever before, ready to reclaim her life and expose the treachery of Dominic and Vivian.

The lake's surface remained undisturbed, but beneath, Naomi's journey of rebirth had begun. The path to revenge and redemption lay before her, and she would not rest until she had made those who betrayed her face the consequences of their actions.

Two years ago, Naomi woke up to the sunlight streaming through the room. She blinked in confusion, looking around at her surroundings. This was her house. How was she back here?

This was the same place where she had been betrayed and killed by the two people she trusted most. She frowned but noticed she wasn't feeling any pain at all. Her hand moved to caress her flat stomach, then proceeded to touch her chest. Her heart was still beating. Did it mean she hadn't died from the fall?

She remembered drowning in the lake, hearing her grandmother's voice. What did she mean by a second chance?

All of this was confusing her. Why was she on her matrimonial bed? Dominic... Naomi thought, her eyes turning deadly at that name. She hated him with so much passion after what he had done to her. She had trusted and loved him; she thought he felt the same, but it had all been a pretense.

Well, that was the least of her problems now. What she couldn't comprehend was how she managed to get back into the house and onto her matrimonial bed. She felt stronger and more energized than before. Her hands moved to touch her head, and her eyes widened as she felt the strands of her long black hair-it was intact.

How was that possible? Her hair had been falling out due to cancer. What was happening to her?

Naomi quickly stood up from the bed and rushed to the bathroom to look at herself in the mirror.

"What-" she screamed. She didn't look weak or pale. She wasn't wearing the hospital gown she remembered putting on earlier, and there was no drip connected to her hands.

Her eyes were clear and healthy. How was this possible? Didn't she die?

"I am going crazy. I think I'm crazy," Naomi said.

She came out of the bathroom, trying to look for her phone. "Is this some kind of dream or fiction?"

Naomi found her phone in her bag and turned it on. She quickly covered her mouth in shock as soon as she saw the date and time.

April 20,2023

"What the hell? Wasn't I in 2025? Why am I in 2023? What is happening? No-this is some kind of joke, I guess," Naomi said, pacing. "Gosh, I'm freaking out. How did I go back to the past?"

She ran her hands through her hair. She blinked, remembering her grandmother's words. Wait... was this the second chance Grandma was telling me about? But how? How is it possible that one can go back to the past?

"Does Grandma have some kind of magic?" Naomi thought, but deep down she knew-this was it.

Her second chance at life. To make those who hurt her pay for their sins. She couldn't let what happened before repeat itself.

She was a changed person now.

And she would make sure to use this chance and cherish it to the fullest.

"But... does this mean I don't have cancer anymore?" she asked herself. Of course, she didn't. This wasn't the year or the day she found out about her cancer. She needed to take care of herself.

A message suddenly popped up on her phone. She frowned and clicked on it. It was from Dominic.

Hey Naomi, something came up at work and I won't be able to make it home in time for our anniversary celebration. I'm really sorry, but I'll make it up to you, I promise. Please understand. Love you.

Naomi's eyes widened. "The same message I got from him in the past... or should I say, the future?" she mumbled.

"Today is our anniversary, which means he lied to be with Vivian-just like Vivian had said."
