Chapter 4 FOUR

CHAPTER FOUR

Noah.

Her name was Charlotte. I could find out everything I wanted about her with a snap of my fingers with only her first name, but something told me not to. Something told me to learn about her little by little, as she let me on with time... But time was not something I had. I was twenty eight years old, and although this was practically infanthood when considering how long werewolves in our pack lived, I had to find my mate and produce an heir before I was thirty. It always seemed somewhat silly to me, being able to live up to three hundred years and having to have a child before your thirtieth birthday. My father had me when he was twenty six, and then had my younger brother ten years later, and at fifty four, he would be the youngest alpha to die in a very long time if he did not survive this ordeal. This was why I desperately needed to find this Griffin guy.

I wanted to tell my mother that I thought I had found her... my mate. Her name was Charlotte... and she lived in the district that Liam Romulus ruled over. Me asking her for her home address was somewhat funny because of this information I had. I knew where she lived and I knew that even if she gave me her address and invited me over, I could not possibly visit her there because it would be inviting danger from the Mules. I could not risk my mate so carelessly, so I would have to think of an alternative. I could just kidnap her, I thought... but that would still involve encroaching on Romulus property. My pack was weak. It wouuld be irresponsible of me to do something like that and practically invite a legitimate attack on us, but I was also responsible for the survival of the pack by procreating with my mate. Why did the girl have to find a living space in Liam's territory of all places?

What if I was wrong after all? What if she was not my mate? Then how would I explain that reaction? She was a very good looking woman, but would that cause those peculiar chemical reactions in me? I had never felt those things ever before in my life, and it fit the descriptions that previous alpha's had for when they met their mates. She was the one, undoubtedly... but she was... human... as far as I could tell, at least.

Most times, we're matched with fellow werewolves, people who know their duty, who know what they're getting into... Only on very rare occasions did an alpha get mated to a human... this was part of why it was difficult to inform my mother. When she said "find her" she was probably meaning for me to scour the entire known world of werewolves in search of her, which I had set out to do two years ago but never went past New York.

Anyways, I needed to create an environment for us to meet each other, and for that to happen, I would need to know what her routine was like. There was almost no way of me doing this without resorting to digging and finding out everything I wanted about her without getting to know her personally, or me drawing attention from the Mules which I did not want. Some older people in the pack would consider me as childish for wanting to get to know Charlotte personally when I could just have her brought to me and forcefully impregnate her, saving both myself and the pack- this was another reason I had not informed anyone about her- they would say I had fantastical ideas about romance in a world of beasts, but I was determined to make my joining with my mate to be as idealistic as I always intended. I figured that she was my mate after all, MY MATE- she was the other half of myself destined to complete me, not some chicken to be found and forcefully inseminated.

I figured I could just tap into the footage from the cameras surrounding her house and monitor her movements for a day or two... this somewhat violated my preference for an idealistic relationship as I was essentially stalking her, but playing spy was a far better alternative to being kidnapper and rapist.

I sat in front of a large screen that had different displays on- the cameras I was watching through, and the investigation into Griffin I was doing. I could get someone else, maybe Randy to monitor Charlotte, but my decision to keep her hidden for now was more important than me taking the easy route. There was movement much quickly than I expected, she was heading out as I stared into the screen.

"Well, I wonder where we'll meet again, Charlotte." I said and sped out of the house. I did not need to track her live location, I just needed to be close enough and I would feel her. Ever since the first spark, I could basically sense or smell her from a mile off. That was how I found her at the bowling alley. This was how I knew for a fact that she was my mate.

She went to play chess at the park. Thankfully, I was an excellent player. Just as she settled down on an empty chair in front of a board, some random guy rushed to sit opposite her. I walked up beside her and looked the guy dead in the eye.

"Get up and walk away."

My body was doing the thing again, so I knew my eyes had some particular look in them, a look intense enough to make him fear and obey me without question. Charlotte turned quizzically to see who it was and while her eyebrows raised slightly, she did not look too surprised.

"You again." She frowned as I walked to the other side to sit opposite her, trying to keep my cool. "Should I be worried?"

"Charlotte." I said courteously. "What lovely weather for a day in the park."

"Noah." She smirked. "I should get a restraining order at this point."

"Nothing can restrain me from you." I said, regretting my words almost immediately.

She laughed. "I should really be worried, but why do I find myself entertaining you?"

"I told you, some things are just meant to happen."

"Hmm." She looked up briefly. "This might sound weird- well, not as weird as half of everything you've ever said to me- but I was sort of expecting you."

"Oh? Why is that?" I smirled and leaned forward. "Did you dream about me?"

"You wish."

She probably thought it was just coincidence that she expected to see me and I was there, she would have thought it was simply her intuition being correct, but it was designed. We were built for each other. Maybe some day, she would be able to sense me the way I sensed her, but until then, this intuition was just fine.

"Let us play." I said.
