Pain radiated from the base of Eliana's spine to her lower back as she curled up on the cold floor.
Her whole body was wracked with spasms, and she clutched her abdomen tightly.
A warm flow slowly seeped from beneath her, staining the white pajamas she had just changed into a deep red.
She glared up at the second floor, where Amy smiled smugly. "You wicked woman! You stole my daddy. Go and die."
With that, Amy burst into tears and immediately drew Dean over.
His hair was disheveled, and a bright smear of lipstick marked his shirt.
Seeing Eliana lying in a pool of blood, he was terrified out of his wits.
The ambulance arrived soon, and several doctors worked together to lift Eliana onto the stretcher.
Eliana held Amy in her arms, and the latter was sobbing. "She tried to push me, but she lost her balance and fell down. Mama, I'm scared."
Eliana widened her eyes in disbelief. She couldn't believe that such words could come from Amy, a three-year-old girl.
The sudden force from behind Eliana was definitely not from Amy.
When she awoke in the hospital, Dean was at her bedside, and his eyes were red from crying. "You can have another child."
Eliana closed her eyes.
Her baby probably knew its parents didn't love each other and chose to leave.
Dean gently touched Eliana's face, which was pale. "I'm sorry. I didn't take good care of you and the baby. Eliana's condition is worsening. You can raise Amy as your daughter."
Hearing those words, Eliana, whose eyes had been void of emotion, suddenly became agitated.
She grabbed Dean's collar and asked him, "You want me to raise a malicious girl who dared to push me off the second floor as my daughter? Dean, don't you know how absurd it sounds?"
Dean frowned. "Amy is just a three-year-old. How much strength could she possibly have? If it weren't for you..."
He didn't continue. Instead, he tucked Eliana in. "I'm going to buy dinner. You'd better reflect on yourself when you rest."
Eliana released her grip weakly.
She knew Dean believed the words of Amy and Erin.
Late at night, Eliana woke up. She was thirsty, but Dean, who had been sleeping on the bedside cot, was gone.
She opened the door and heard the sound of intimate murmurs instantly.
Following the voices, she arrived at the silent emergency exit.
Although she knew what he was doing, she asked calmly, "Dean, what are you doing?"
The intimate voices vanished instantly.
After a moment of rustling, Dean pulled open the fire escape door with a forced smile. "Why are you up? I heard a cat meowing and came to check."
It was a flimsy excuse, but Eliana didn't pursue it further.
She just wanted to get some water quickly.
As the wedding approached, Dean didn't have time to stay at the hospital with Eliana every day.
Eliana was discharged after handling the process herself two days later.
Erin clearly hadn't expected Eliana to leave the hospital so soon.
When Eliana opened the door, Erin was lounging on the sofa in Eliana's pajamas.
Eliana's gaze turned sharp, and she coldly said, "Take off my pajamas."
Dean happened to return just then and walked into the tense scene.
His face was unsightly as he reprimanded Eliana. "Eliana, what are you trying to do? I bought you so many pajamas. Why are you being so petty? She's a guest."
"A guest? She thinks this is her home."
Eliana knew Erin had a lot of pajamas and was simply provoking Eliana.
And Erin succeeded.
Eliana's gaze swept coldly over Dean. "Even if it's trash I don't want, she has no right to wear it."
Erin's eyes filled with tears, and she choked as she said, "I'm sorry, Miss Spence. Dean handed me these pajamas casually. I didn't know they were yours."
"If you won't take them off, fine." Eliana tore the silk nightgown in half with her bare hands.
Erin gasped and clutched her chest tightly.
Dean immediately took off his jacket and draped it over her. "Enough! How long are you going to be causing trouble?"
Eliana's eyes burned with fury. "I'm causing trouble? She's blatantly wearing my pajamas at home. She is completely inappropriate and disrespectful."
Before she could finish speaking, a loud slap followed.
