Chapter 6 The Reason Why She Wants A Divorce

After spending a few days in the hospital, Hannah accepted Haley's warm offer to stay with her. The apartment carried too many memories of Rhett, and she had decided to put it up for sale.

As she finished packing and stepped downstairs with her luggage, she noticed a man standing beside the car. The carefree charm of his school days was gone, replaced by the refined confidence of someone shaped by time and experience. Hannah's throat tightened as she softly spoke. "Jerred."

Jerred walked toward her, his smile easy as he brushed away a tear at the corner of her eye. "Well now, are those tears of happiness? Looks like I still have a place in your heart."

Hannah's lips curved into a bright smile.

With his familiar humor, Jerred dissolved the unease between them as if it had never existed.

"Jerred, I'm sorry for walking away from the team so selfishly back then. I know it was wrong. Will you give me another chance?" Hannah's voice carried genuine sincerity.

When it came to returning to work, Nexus Future was without question the best choice.

Jerred spread his arms with a grin. "Having you, a genius, back on the team is exactly what I've wanted. We've just secured a project, Kshire Hospital plans to invest heavily in developing a rehabilitation robot with us. How about it? I'd like you to lead the project."

Kshire Hospital?

Hannah remembered it was one of the best hospitals in town.

If Nexus Future secured this project, it would not only strengthen their reputation but also propel the company to a higher level.

But still...

"Jerred, I've been away from this field for three years. Aren't you worried I might make a mistake?" Hannah asked quietly.

Jerred gave her nose a playful pinch and smiled. "You're the one who created the robot that surprised the whole world. Doubt me if you want, but never doubt your own brilliance, understand?"

Her chest tightened with emotion. Hannah nodded. "Alright, I'll follow your lead, Jerred."

Jerred opened the car door with a smile. "Come on. I'll drop you off at Haley's place. Focus on your health for now, and I'll be waiting for you at Nexus Future."

Hannah gave a firm nod.

With Haley and Jerred beside her, the road ahead no longer felt so overwhelming.

...

At that moment, inside the top-floor CEO office of the Gill Group, the air was taut with tension.

Ethan's fingers tapped an unhurried yet foreboding rhythm against the desk. His gaze fixed on the photograph before him, and his jaw set hard. "Who is he?"

Zayn Perry, his assistant, kept his head lowered and answered, "That's Jerred Barton, the founder of Nexus Future."

Nexus Future?

He knew that name. It was a rising company with strong potential that had surfaced in recent years.

Ethan had even sent men to negotiate an acquisition, only to be turned away.

Ethan's gaze lingered on the photo. Jerred was smiling as he gently pinched Hannah's nose, while she returned the gesture with a radiant smile, her eyes shimmering with warmth.

Was she leaving him for this man?

"Jerred Barton, huh?" A cold curve touched Ethan's lips, but his eyes carried an icy sharpness.

He didn't speak further, yet Zayn could feel the weight of his fury. Cautiously, he asked, "Nexus Future has been expanding at an alarming pace, taking over several markets. Do you want me to intervene?"

Ethan reclined in his chair, his eyes never leaving the photo in his hand. He gave no reply.

To Zayn, his boss's silence spoke volumes.

He gave a quick nod. "Mr. Gill, I'll take care of it and make sure Jerred understands the consequences."

Ethan's eyes cut to him, cold and sharp. "There's no need. Don't overstep again."

With a flick of his wrist, he tossed the photo into the trash, as though neither Hannah's potential betrayal nor the image held the slightest weight.

A chill ran down Zayn's spine, and sweat dampened his back.

Ethan's thoughts were impossible to read.

In Zayn's hand rested a divorce agreement, each page carrying a weight that pressed against his chest. His gaze lingered on it in silence, offering no hint of emotion. Zayn hesitated, then chose to set the matter aside. It was better to wait until his boss's anger had eased before bringing it up again.
