Both mother and daughter cried in each other's arms. After crying, Mabel felt better, and she felt relieved.
"Mabel, why did you cry? See you caused my makeup to get smeared," Melanie cracked a joke which lightened the heavy atmosphere.
"I just missed you, that's all," Mabel replied in a coquettish voice.
Melanie's eyes softened as she stared at her daughter who clung to her tightly. Mabel did not want to let go of her.
"Mabel, do you really want to call off your wedding with him? I thought you were madly in love with him, and would not bear to be separated from him," Melanie had a genuine confused look on her face as she stared at her daughter who had a lost look in her eyes.
"Are you listening?" She asked after a few seconds, seeing that she did not get a response.
"Yes, I am," Mabel snapped out of her trance and she breathed out through her mouth.
"Yes mom, I will not be getting married to him, I am breaking off the marriage, now that I think of it, he is not worth it, and besides, I had a long dream, the dream woke me up to his real colors," Mabel replied with a forced smile on her face.
Melanie beamed happily. She was beyond excited that her daughter had finally regained her senses. Like she said, Alex wasn't worth it.
"That is good, I am sure your father will be happy with your decision, and we can probably go ahead with the marriage between you and Ace," Melanie happily blurted out.
"Ace? As in, Ace Cromwell's, the stepbrother of Alex, the heir to the TK Corporation, do you mean that Ace, mom?" Mabel suppressed her anxiety as she questioned her mom.
"Of course, it's that Ace, actually, we have been in talks with him about your marriage with him, but we did not get the chance to tell you when you decided to get married to Alex," Melanie had a depressed look on her face.
Thinking back to it, she felt that it was such a pity. Ace was quite compatible with her daughter, and she liked the fine young man. He was refined and a gentleman.
But her daughter had decided to settle for less. And irrespective of the fact that she found Ace worthy, she could not bear to disagree with her daughter's choice.
"Do you think he is willing to get married to me?" Mabel asked as she played with her fingers.
She did not know if he was still willing to get married to her, but she hoped it was possible.
Now that she thought about it, Alex had mentioned that Ace was the one who always slept with her. She also got pregnant as a result.
She had no idea why Ace would do such a thing.
'He probably liked her,' she thought to herself, but dismissed the idea immediately.
"He is willing, he had specifically told us that if you ever lose interest in Alex, he was still waiting for you," Melanie replied which brought her out of her reverie.
Mabel felt her heart ripple as she listened to her mother's words. She mentally berated herself. She was such a fool.
If she had just broken up with Alex as her parents requested, then she would not have faced major issues. Perhaps, she would not have died.
But perhaps dying and being reborn was a good thing. Now, armed with the memories of her previous life, she was not going to make the same mistakes again.
If she did, she would be damned and her rebirth would have gone to waste.
"Mom, I am ready to marry Ace," Mabel declared with a firm voice.
It was not that she loved Ace, but she felt that Ace would be a good instrument in her revenge.
Melanie smiled widely for the nth time. She had never realized that her daughter's words brought her so much joy.
"Did I just hear about a marriage to Ace, she agreed, yes!" Kelly, who had been at the door immediately, came in with a boisterous voice.
Mabel laughed at her sister's antics, and it only became louder when Kelly jumped onto the bed.
"Mom, is it true? Did you tell her about Ace?" Kelly asked, her eyes twinkling as it darted between her mother and sister.
"Yes, I did, she deserves to know, and luckily, she accepted it," Melanie replied with a beautiful smile on her face.
"Yes! That's wonderful, I bet Ace will be so happy seeing that you have changed your mind, but regardless of anything,
The first thing you need to do is to inform that scumbag called Alex that you are calling the wedding off," Kelly rambled as she already pictured how his face was going to look after finding out that her sister was calling the wedding off.
"Yes sister, sister, can I trouble you to help me inform him, you see, I find it to be disgusting, and I am unwilling to have anything to do with him, please," Mabel pleaded while pouting her lips?
Kelly sighed. She was about to accept when they heard their mother say,
"Mabel, as much as I want you to stay away from Alex, you have to be the one to tell him about it, your sister cannot help you," Melanie explained, and the atmosphere turned sour.
"I got it!" Mabel suddenly exclaimed causing the two ladies to look at her.
"Instead of telling him, why don't I show I am not interested in the wedding anymore?" Mabel asked as her eyes darted between her mom and sister.
"What do you mean by that?" Melanie narrowed her eyes, questioning her youngest daughter.
"Isn't today the tryouts for the bridal dress, I won't go, that should send enough signals to him, don't you think so?" Mabel asked, thrilled that she was not going to make an appearance.
She was not ready to show up in front of Alex, at least not now! She needed to be mentally strong to be able to meet him and Ivy.
