Chapter 28 The veil Between us

The night before her crossing, Amelia stood beneath the moon, cloaked in a robe of charmed silver thread woven by Eliot, blessed by the Ancients. The lake shimmered with magic, the surface glowing like glass between two worlds.

"Once you enter the Veil," Eliot warned, "you can't lie. Not even to yourself. It strips you bare."
