She belongs to nobody but me. No matter how hard she tried to get away from me.
Lucy had kept her distance after that night. She doesn't know the reason. I turned her down. If any responsibility did not tie me down, I would gladly accept her offer.
Lucy's voice stuck in my head, haunting me. She had asked me three questions that had refused to leave my head.
Was it impossible for a man and a woman to spend years together without developing feelings for each other? No.
Do I have feelings for her? Yes, I do.
Why was I suddenly comfortable with her getting married to Grey? I wasn't comfortable then and now.
I just have things to do, bigger demons to slay. Unfortunately, I didn't stop the wedding because of my plans. And I might have to use her as a pawn in this messy game of revenge.
Her laughter, smile, scent, literally everything, reminds me of her. I miss having her cling onto me and act like a baby. Over the years, I've pampered and spoiled her.
Yet, I broke and hurt her the most and against my will. She deserved better. I'm not heartbroken that I refused her, but everything I've ever done was for her own good.
To her, I'm just a man she loves, her bodyguard. There are secrets to me that I had kept from not just her, but the world.
My phone buzzed. A message from my best friend and right-hand man, Raymond Filler.
"It's sorted."
A sly smirk tugged on my lips as I recalled Lucy's attempt to get rid of me. She made her parents relieve me of my duty but now she's stuck with me.
My dear Lucy, it's not so easy to get rid of me. Whenever she is involved, I'm possessive and daring.
Grey was the crack I needed. A perfect pawn for my revenge, a husband in title only.
Now, let the game begin. For years, I've watched Cullen, and he's not a smooth operator after all.
Grey is not intelligent either.
My phone rang and my lips stretched into a knowing smile. I answered, "hello"
"Good day, am I onto Mr. Cannon?" The person at the other end asked.
"Yes," I replied curtly.
"Alright. This is Mr. Grey's personal assistant. You've been recommended to Mr. Dipson to be his wife's bodyguard. Are you willing to take up the offer?" The man asked.
I smiled and leaned more on the chair. "Why does Mr. Grey want a bodyguard for his newly wedded wife?" I asked, teasing him.
"She's part of an influential family and Mr. Grey won't always be around to protect her," he stated.
I scoffed. Such a douche bag.
"Okay. I can do that." I pretended like I wasn't the one who set up everything.
"Cool. Mr. & Mrs. Dipson are currently away on their honeymoon and you're expected to catch the next available flight and join them in Maldives. Any questions?"
"No." I grunted and ended the call. My fists still remained tightly clenched. Not comfortable that Lucy might lose her virginity to him.
Well, the earlier I join them, the better.
A few hours later I was on my private jet all the way to Maldives. Catching flights was insulting. Soon, it landed at my private airport.
"Will!" Raymond waved at me from afar and I scoffed.
He ran towards me and engulfed me in a hug. I pulled out immediately.
"We spent an entire month together," I grumbled.
"Working," he chipped in.
I nodded, having nothing else to say. "Is everything ready?" I asked in a cold tone.
"Yes, boss. This has been long overdue. Let the game begin," he said.
"Get me a cab"
"Already done. Take care," he patted my back.
"I will, and you take care of things from your end."
"Noted, sir." With that, I walked away and headed to the private island in my private cab.
The ride was kind of long, but it didn't bother me. The cool breeze from the ocean grazed my skin.
Finally, I got to the destination and the first person I saw was the dude that spoke to me earlier.
"Hello, Mr. Cannon. Welcome to Maldives." He stretched his hand for a handshake and I took it.
"Hello"
He scanned through the iPad in his hand and looked at me. "Mr. Grey left the island an hour ago to attend a business meeting. So you're to look after Mrs. Dipson throughout this trip"
I didn't wait for him to complete his statement before I walked away. I won't stand there and receive instructions from a mere P.A.
He left an hour ago. Not because duty called, but because I made sure it did.
There was no way I would allow him to spend the next two weeks with Lucy alone. Grey is a greedy person, so all I had to do was pull a few strings to get him out.
I get to spend the honeymoon with her and no one else.
I settled in and quickly ran a bath. Before, I got dressed in a white shirt and shirt and set out in search of her.
The beach was the first place that came to my mind. Lucy loves the tranquility that comes with it.
From a distance, I saw her sitting on the ground. So I went to her.
"Doll?" I called her out and her shoulders tensed up, more like she froze.
Slowly, she turned around. Her eyes locked on mine but there was doubt swimming in it. She didn't want to believe I was real.
I mean, I wouldn't believe it either.
"You look surprised," I teased her, chuckling at her confused face.
Her eyes roamed my body, "why are you here? I told you not to show your face in front of me"
"Wait, are you stalking me?" she frowned.
I shrugged, folding my arms.
"I have been assigned to be your personal bodyguard as of today," I announced, keeping a straight face.
Her jaws dropped, and then a humorless laughter tore from her lips.
"You? Hell no. My parents already let you go"
"That's true, but Grey couldn't," I smirked.
"You don't get to talk about my husband like that," she hissed, her eyes clouded with anger.
Dear Lucy has forgotten that I hate this tone. I strode towards her like a predator, my hands tucked in my pocket.
She backed away, but that didn't stop me. Before she could get farther, I pulled her by her arm. Pressing her body against mine.
I lowered my lips to her ear, "I hate being yelled at. Another thing, to me you're still single and remember that you can't get rid of me," I groaned, and she shivered.
"Why are you doing this to me, Will?" She asked in a cracked voice.
I leaned back and stared at her face, but my gaze lingered on her lips.
"Because you've always been mine, Lucy Freya Jones," before capturing her lips in mine.
I'm not letting her go this time. I don't care if my darkness overshadows her light. I know what I'm doing is wrong, but I'd rather be her villain than watch her love someone else.
