I came out of the car; we've reached there; this should be the Alpha's building. From the outside, you can already smell money from the structured fireplace of the house.
I've heard about the Lunari wolves; their pack is among the richest, if not the richest, among the whole packs.
Moving in, I could see a golden light that seemed to emanate from the very walls themselves.
The room was a master class in elegance, with plush, dark-colored Morris chairs arranged invitingly around.
The flames danced and crackled, casting flickering shadows on the walls, as they cast a warm beam over the room.
The walls themselves were adorned with intricate, gilded mouldings that seem to shimmer and shine in the firelight. The air was thick with the scent of old books and leather.
Everywhere I looked, I saw evidence of a life well lived, of comfort and luxury.
It was a room that seemed to whisper, "Come, sit, stay a while."
"Wow!!" I exclaimed.
And the three men in front of me turned and stared. At that point I came back to my normal senses. I'm not here to admire the house; I don't even know what would happen to me yet.
I saw two ladies standing; I could figure they were maids from their uniforms. One of them came closer, quickly and quietly led the way upstairs, and Beta Thane followed. We reached up, and she took us to one of the rooms. "This will be your room." She uttered.
There was a knock on the door shortly.
That should be that doctor; bring her in. Thane said, 'If I had the courage to ask, I would have asked what the doctor was for.'
But I was afraid of these people too, just like anyone would be.
But what's with the doctor? Are they really going to harm me?
The doctor came to me, ran some checkups and said, "She's perfectly fine and fit; she just needs some rest.
She said to Thane, the test results will come out in three days.
"Alright." Thane replied.
The doctor turned, looked at me and said, "Please don't forget to take the meds."
I nodded; all I could do was nod.
The doctor left the room.
Beta Thane looked at me and turned to go out, and I gathered my courage to know what they were going to do with me.
"Bet Thane," I called, and he slowly turned back and looked at me. "Plea-please, wh-what?" I stopped; his eyes were intimidating.
"Never mind," I said.
And he turned and walked away.
The lady that remained in the room came closer. "Hi, my name is Becky."
I didn't know what to say because this is the first time. The first time somebody approached me and spoke to me kindly.
I was just sitting, staring. Is she also like me? I wouldn't mind working as a main in this place too.
Merely looking at her, she would be my age mate.
"I hope you're good. I just hope you recover soon."
She interrupted my thoughts.
I just nodded
"Were you treated badly? How could your body be this? Examining me in remorse.
She took her eyes up and looked at my face, "Ohh, so sorry, I shouldn't have asked that. So sorry."
I was not actually feeling uncomfortable. I was just trying to adapt to that feeling.
There was a knock on the door, and another girl came in.
Becky turned immediately. "Hey, Lass, what's up? She asked.
"Thane needs you downstairs.
"Alright", she stood up, walked some steps and turned to me. "I'll be back, okay?"
The girl standing by the door came in, "Hi!!! I'm Lassy; I'm 15. I'm the last born in the family; that's why they came up with that name, Lassy, meaning last born.
And she was smiling with her teeth widely open and was rolling her eyes like she needed a response, or she was thinking about what she forgot to tell me.
As she talked, she gestured with her hands and moved from one place to the other.
"Ohh yes, you actually thought we were maids, right? From our appearance, the aprons and all. Hmm?" She asked with her eyebrows raised, her mouth closed and her eyes wide open, like she was expecting an answer from me.
My head went up, down, up, down.
"Hell no, my brother doesn't like too many people around; we have to. We have maid too, but they only come when she's not around."
She continued, "They do everything necessary, like cleaning, washing, and the rest. But Becky does the cooking. Especially the one my brother is to eat."
As she was talking, I was just lost. These people are not as bad as they were portrayed, or is it just a mask?
"Ohh my! What happened to you? I had not seen this. Were..." The door opened, Lassy's sentence was cut short, and she kept quiet for a bit. And our attention was drawn to the door.
It was Becky; she held the door with one hand and was staring at us.
Lassy turned to me like she forgot something with both her hands and body. "Wait, I forgot to mention, Becky is Beta Thane's sister. I should probably tell you everything, right? Our family tree and all." She winced at me.
"Lassy!" Becky called, "How about you go to your room or shut your chatty mouth?" She turned to me, "Hope she didn't bore you with her talks. Don't mind what she says."
"After all, I'm a spoilt kid, right?" Lassy reacted, "Why didn't you finish your statement? That's exactly what's in your mind."
Becky left the door and came close to where we were. "Las, I didn't say so," trying to hold onto Lassy. "Leave me the f**k alone."
Lassy was still being emotional, and Becky was trying to calm her down. And suddenly they stopped.
And I saw someone standing in front of the door; it was Beta Thane.
Thane subtly signalled Kyria and Lassy to leave; they understood immediately; no words were needed. Becky held Lassy's hand, and they left.
Thane started giving reports without being asked: "The doctor has treated her; she's stable, but she needs some rest. She's been bullied."
I just heard a thick, manly voice, deep and commanding, like gravel rolling in honey. It had that rough yet smooth edge, the kind of voice that makes you instinctively straighten up and listen, the type that makes your heart skip a beat before catching up, the type carrying secrets you weren't sure you wanted to hear. "How many days does she need to rest?" He asked, "The doctor said two weeks, and she'll be stable." Beta Thane replied.
I could only hear this from the inside; I've not seen his face.
