Chapter 6 Discipline The Maids

Madelyn handed the photo back to Jason with a measured grace. "You went to great lengths to have someone shadow my every move. Next time, if you're curious about me, just ask me directly. No need to go to such great lengths."

Jason's gaze darkened, locking onto Madelyn with an intensity that could pierce steel. "You're hardly worth such trouble."

He had simply received the photo, with no clue who had sent it.

To him, Madelyn simply wasn't worth the effort.

Madelyn, stung by a sharp ache in her chest, slipped on her sunglasses to mask the hurt. "Shall we proceed with the divorce? Let's not dawdle."

Jason's eyes finally caught the bold red dress she wore, a striking departure from her usual palette.

He had always frowned upon women who dressed with too much flair, and Madelyn had typically chosen soft whites or beiges-understated, refined, and poised.

Yet today, standing in the gentle spring breeze, her dress fluttering and hair swaying, she exuded a captivating charm that was impossible to ignore.

His jaw clenched as he spoke to her, voice low and deliberate. "If you're having second thoughts, I might consider giving you another chance."

"I won't," Madelyn replied without a moment's hesitation, her tone almost buoyant. "I certainly won't stand in the way of your quest for true love. Since the one you love is Rebecca, I hope she will get divorced soon, so that you can marry her."

Her lips curved into a sardonic smile, a subtle barb that hit its mark.

Jason's expression darkened like a storm cloud rolling in.

Without another word, he turned on his heel and strode toward the courthouse.

They signed the necessary documents and set a date a month later to finalize their divorce as it would take one month for the application to be processed.

With the first half of the process complete, Madelyn exhaled a quiet sigh of relief, slid into the white Audi lent to her by Daniel, and drove off.

She didn't offer a farewell or spare Jason a single glance.

Jason's face was a mask of grim resolve as he watched the Audi's taillights vanish around the corner before climbing into his own car.

After leaving the courthouse, Madelyn drove back to the Miller family's house.

She had only packed a suitcase with the essentials before, but there were still a few work-related items she needed to retrieve from the house.

As she stepped inside, she overheard two maids tidying the living room, their whispers sharp and unguarded.

"They've actually gone through with the divorce, and it was Mrs. Miller who set it in motion."

"Since they are getting a divorce, she will no longer be Mrs. Miller soon!"

"She is just some small-town nobody! With Mr. Miller's stature, countless women would kill for a chance with him, while she wants a divorce. Mark my words, she will come crawling back."

Madelyn cleared her throat and stepped into the room, her presence commanding attention.

The maids froze, realizing Madelyn had overheard their whispers, yet they remained unfazed, even looking arrogant.

Madelyn's voice was calm but cutting. "Is the Miller name so grand that even its maids feel entitled to such arrogance? Talking about my private life behind my back-aren't you the least bit concerned about your jobs?"

The two maids were startled, exchanged uneasy glances, but held their ground-convinced that Madelyn was merely bluffing. In their minds, Madelyn had no right to dismiss them.

As Madelyn ascended the staircase, she continued, her tone laced with irony. "The divorce isn't finalized yet. Yet here you are, eager to show me your attitude."

She paused, a faint smile playing on her lips. "What's the rush? Hoping to catch Jason's eye yourselves?"

The maids' faces paled, their bravado crumbling.

"We're so sorry, Mrs. Miller! We don't have that intention!"

"It was just a silly small talk-you're still Mrs. Miller to us!"

At that moment, a sound came from the doorway.

"Who do you call Mrs. Miller?" Jason stepped inside, a chill clinging to him like a shadow.

He had clearly overheard the exchange, and his icy gaze settled on Madelyn. "What authority do you have to discipline the maids here?"
