Chapter 5 Get Out

Rosalyn's expression tightened, and she turned towards Kayce. "Maybe we should look for another doctor."

The pain she was experiencing was truly excruciating.

The woman said, "I'm also here to meet Dr. Morley. Why don't you join me as a way to make amends for earlier?"

After hesitating for a moment, Rosalyn accepted. "Thank you."

Together, they ascended to the third floor in the elevator.

Upon their arrival, a man in a teal robe addressed the woman in red. "Ms. Sharon Brown."

He introduced himself as Rhett Morley, the grandson of Tobias Morley.

"Ms. Sharon Brown?" A flicker of surprise crossed Rosalyn's eyes. "You're Ms. Brown from Aegis Group?"

The woman replied with a friendly smile, "Call me Sharon, please."

Kayce was taken aback. He hadn't anticipated that she was Sharon Brown-the notorious Red Widow, chairwoman of Aegis Group and a formidable figure in Ploron.

The rumor was that she had been married to three of Trurough State's wealthiest tycoons, all of whom had died under mysterious circumstances shortly after their weddings. She had then consolidated their fortunes to establish Aegis Group, hence her formidable nickname.

They were ushered into a quiet room.

Sitting at the table was an elderly man with white hair, dressed in gray robes. He was nonchalantly brewing coffee, seemingly indifferent to the world around him.

Upon their entry, he acknowledged them with a slight nod, his demeanor exuding arrogance.

This must be the renowned Tobias Morley, the venerable sage of medicine.

As Kayce entered the room, his attention was drawn to a large glass case on the wall.

Displayed within was a snow lotus of impressive size.

Catching Kayce's intrigued look, Rhett boasted with a proud grin, saying, "Behold the pride of Lifespring Clinic-the largest snow lotus found in the nation."

Sharon positioned herself opposite Tobias. "Dr. Morley, I've been experiencing-"

Tobias interrupted her with a raised hand.

Then he began to examine her with his stethoscope.

After a brief assessment, he pulled back his hand and replied evenly, "You have gastroptosis. Three sessions of acupuncture should resolve it."

Kayce's brow creased in skepticism, compelling him to interject, "That diagnosis is incorrect. Ms. Brown doesn't have gastroptosis."

Tobias's eyes narrowed at the challenge.

Rhett retorted, "And who are you to dispute my grandfather's expertise?"

A shadow passed over Sharon's face.

Rosalyn pulled at Kayce's sleeve and whispered anxiously, "What are you doing?"

Kayce replied with grave seriousness, "I'm not trying to create a scene. Ms. Brown does not have gastroptosis."

"Be quiet!" Rosalyn hissed. "You're not a doctor. Don't spout nonsense!"

Dealing with someone of Sharon's stature was risky.

Rosalyn dreaded the thought of the repercussions from displeasing Sharon.

"She does not have gastroptosis." Kayce stood firm.

In a calm, low voice, Tobias asked, "Then enlighten us, what troubles her?"

"Ms. Brown has been poisoned," responded Kayce, his voice resolute.

"Poisoned?" A sneer twisted across Rhett's face. "What kind of ridiculous talk is that?"

Kayce turned his gaze to Sharon. "Please, believe me-"

Sharon responded coolly, "You might think drawing my attention like this is clever, but exploiting my health as a tactic? That's unacceptable."

Watching Sharon's expression darken, Rosalyn stomped her foot in frustration. "Will you stop making things worse?"

She truly couldn't grasp what had gotten into Kayce.

Sharon turned to her driver and said coldly, "Get them out of here."

The driver wasted no time, stepping toward Kayce with a menacing air. "You heard her. Move along."

Fury burned in Rosalyn's cheeks. She had counted on Sharon's support to secure Tobias's treatment. Now, thanks to Kayce, that chance was slipping through her fingers.

Rosalyn shot him a scathing glare, then spun on her heel and stormed off, her high heels clicking sharply behind her.

Kayce moved toward the door but stopped and turned back. "Don't puncture the epigastric point," he said evenly. "It'll stir the toxins and spread them. If that happens, it could kill her."

Tobias let out a derisive snort. "A brat like you, daring to tell me how to use a needle? Ridiculous."

"Get out," Sharon shouted, her voice slicing through the tension like a blade.

In her mind, Kayce was just showy, desperate for attention.

"That's all I needed to say. Take care of yourself, Ms. Brown."

With that, he turned and walked out of the clinic.

He caught sight of Rosalyn already stepping into a taxi.

He quickened his pace and called out, "Rosalyn, wait-let's find another doctor-"

"Don't come near me!" Rosalyn shouted, slamming the cab door shut. "Drive," she instructed, not sparing a glance back.

After the disaster last night and the cramps gnawing at her today, Rosalyn had zero patience left for anyone, least of all him.

Watching the taxi disappear into traffic, Kayce gave a faint, resigned smile before turning back toward Lifespring Clinic. Inside, he bought a set of silver needles and a handful of herbs used for easing menstrual pain.

She might not trust his medical skills, but Kayce needed to be prepared anyway-just in case she changed her mind.

As he turned to leave, Sharon's driver strode toward him with brisk, heavy steps. "You. Come with me."

The demand came sharp and curt, the driver's chin lifted high like he thought the world owed him something.

Kayce's gaze cooled. "Why?"

"My boss wants a word."

A short laugh escaped Kayce, dry and cutting. "Let me guess. Tobias didn't take my advice and jammed the needle straight into her epigastric point?"

"Quit talking and move," retorted the driver, his patience clearly running out.

The driver moved first, thrusting his hand out to snatch Kayce by the collar.

But Kayce shifted effortlessly out of reach, his voice cutting through the tension, cool and even. "I have things to do. Find someone else."

Letting himself be dragged around like a pawn was not something Kayce ever intended to allow. The smug arrogance rolling off the driver only sharpened his refusal.

"You don't get to refuse," the man said, swinging his leg up in a sudden, vicious kick.

"You brought this on yourself." A glint of ice flashed in Kayce's eyes as he seized the nearest chair and brought it crashing down without hesitation.

The wood splintered apart with a deafening crack.

The driver collapsed, blood trickling from a fresh wound on his forehead.

Kayce gave a low snort of disdain, grabbed his belongings, and turned to leave without sparing another glance.

"Wait! Please!"

The elevator chimed open, and Sharon stumbled out in a panic, Tobias and Rhett close behind her.

Kayce slowed, one brow arching in mild amusement. "Ms. Brown. Are you here to fight for your driver's honor?"

Sharon barely spared the bleeding man a glance. Instead, she dropped to her knees with a thud that echoed across the lobby, her voice shaking. "Please... help me."

She had brushed off Kayce's warnings, thinking he was just trying to scare her. But the moment Tobias pierced her epigastric point, agony tore through her, proving Kayce had been right all along.

For a second, Kayce stood frozen, caught off guard by the sight of Sharon on her knees.

Still, he reminded himself, nothing stripped pride faster than the fear of death.

Meanwhile, Tobias had turned a sickly shade of gray, the polished confidence he once wore now in tatters.

It was bad enough that a young nobody had exposed his incompetence. Watching Sharon collapse and beg that same nobody for help would leave a disgrace he could never hide.
