Chapter 4 The Proposal

Adrian is good-looking but that shouldn't affect him upstairs.

"Is something wrong with my ears or am I imagining things now?" Chloe asked herself, trying to recall what the Almighty international businessman had just told her.

"You heard me clearly, so nothing is wrong with your ears," Adrian said as if he was listening to Chloe's thoughts.

"I want a baby from you and I will give you anything you want in return. I will get your father out of the mess he fell into," Adrian said.

Adrian had earlier read an article about the dirt that was dug on Chloe's father a few hours before they met in the bar. He saw how heartbroken she was, so he decided to interfere since he also wanted something in return.

Chloe couldn't believe her ears as she opened, her mouth in shock.

"Do you understand what you just said?" Chloe asked.

She noticed he wasn't laughing so she just had to re-ask.

"Do I like the type that pulls out a joke anytime?" Adrian asked, raising his eyebrow.

Chloe swallowed the lump in her throat immediately after she noticed Adrian's angry voice. Never has she expected such from the Almighty Adrian Blake.

Thinking about it, it would be a very good advantage for Chloe if she got married to Adrian, she can use the opportunity as Adrian's wife to avenge those who broke her heart and dug up dirt against her family.

Adrian wants a baby from Chloe, but she can't give birth due to the infertility pills she was fed with. Chloe needed Adrian's proposal badly to get her father out of the mess he was into. Chloe was stuck in one position, not knowing what to do.

"Should I agree or not?" Chloe thought.

Adrian looked up at Chloe while she was lost in thoughts deliberating on whether to accept the offer or not.

"You are wasting my time, woman; I have other business that needs my attention," Adrian said loudly, jerking Chloe back to reality.

"Fine, I accept," Chloe said reluctantly, scared to even look at Adrian's face.

"Let's get married today. We will get our marriage certificate today and get divorced immediately after you give me a child. For now, go into the bathroom, take your bath, and meet me downstairs in the next fifteen minutes. The document for our contract will be ready before then," Adran said.

He left the room not sparing Chloe another glance. Immediately, the door shut behind Adrian; Chloe hurriedly walked into the bathroom and placed herself inside the bathtub for five minutes. Chloe sat there wishing that Adrian would not find out about her infertility.

A few minutes later, Chloe finished bathing and moved back into the bedroom to put on something. That was when it got to her that the only clothes she had available were the ones she had worn to the gym the previous day.

Chloe carefully tightened the towel around her chest and moved to the wardrobe only to see a beautiful blue dress waiting for her already. Chloe smiled to herself, seeing the clothes were blue, her best color. Chloe got dressed and dried her hair with the short towel she found beside the bathtub.

Chloe knew that Adrian was someone who worked diligently with time, so she hurriedly finished dressing and walked out of the room. Chloe was shocked at the beautiful house owned by Adrian Blake, an international businessman.

"Wow! Such a nice and beautiful house," Chloe thought as she walked majestically down the stairs.

Adrian and Vincent, his assistant, were having a brief discussion when they noticed footsteps coming down the stairs. They both paused for a moment and turned back only to see Chloe walking majestically down the stairs.

Vincent was shocked at Chloe's beauty. He had only heard about her from his boss a few minutes ago but hadn't seen her yet. He never expected Chloe to be this beautiful. Adrian also turned to stare at Chloe while she was coming down the stairs, but he didn't do that for long.

"Good day, ma'am," Vincent greeted, smiling.

"Good day," Chloe replied with a bow politely.

"Have your seat!" Adrian commanded, though his voice was more like a whisper.

Chloe quietly moved to Adrian's seat and sat beside him before Vincent took out the document and handed it over to Chloe. She collected the documents with a nod and scanned through them.

She couldn't scan through the rules because they must be followed diligently, so she resorted to reading it in her mind, but Adrian interrupted her by reading it out loud.

"Rule one, you must not ask or interfere in my private life. Rule two, as long as we are still together, you must never date another man. Rule three, you must perform your wifely duties. Rule four, you must never come to my personal room or study. The last rule is that we are getting divorced the day you give birth to my child. Do you have any questions?" Adrian asked.

"Yes," Chloe slowly replied.

"Okay," Adrian said, nodding his head.

"Are we getting home before the divorce?" Chloe asked.

"No, you are going to sign the divorce papers on the hospital bed," Adrian replied.

Chloe nodded her head and stared at the document for a few seconds before picking a pen on the table with trembling hands to sign the contract. Chloe felt bad within herself for not being able to tell him the truth about her infertility caused by her most trusted friends.

"Why are your hands trembling?" Adrian asked, coldly.

"I...." Chloe tried to form a sentence, but words weren't coming out.

"Good day, Sir. Your breakfast is ready," one of the maids standing behind Adrian said.

Adrian nodded and motioned his assistant and Chloe to join him. Chloe finished signing the document and handed it over to Vincent before they all moved to the dining.

Adrian finished up his food and went to join Vincent outside who finished eating earlier. Immediately after Adrian closed the door, Chloe heaved out a heavy sigh of relief as she began eating properly. Chloe finished up her food and went to Adrian outside.

Immediately Chloe stepped her feet outside the door, all the bodyguards around bowed their heads at her instantly. She was taken aback as she stared at them trying so hard to smile.

"Get into the car this instant," Adrian commanded with a very bold voice.

As she walked closer to the car door, a bodyguard was already waiting with the door open for her to enter.
