Chapter 4 Rejected Luna

Emily's POV

My heart pounded in anticipation of what was going to happen. Jack looked upset and I was equally embarrassed and upset about what happened.

Our hands were intertwined together, the spark filling our bodies with its warmth and desires.

The bond: it's always making me go against my words but now must be an exception.

Arriving at the west wing, I removed my hands from his hold and stopped walking. He turned around with a confused expression.

"You don't have to hold me," I said without meeting his gaze. He sighed when he heard me before turning around to face me. I really don't like this. If he was this close to me, I won't be able to resist the temptation that comes after it.

Shutting my eyes, "Please, don't make this hard for me. I still need to think about what happened. Just go away and leave me alone," I pleaded.

"I thought we were on the same page,"

"Huh?" I opened my eyes.

"You heard me," he prompted.

"We aren't on the same page, Jack. How on earth do you expect me to be, with your sudden desire for me now that you've suddenly switched sides? Just two days ago, wasn't Kiara your favorite person?" I demanded, feeling upset.

His expression softened but mine was still hard. His pride, ego and confidence to think that the throne could buy me and showcasing he would be by my side only intensifies my annoyance.

"I'm not doing this," I mumbled before walking away. He didn't chase after me to which I was grateful for because I saw Mason walking towards our direction.

I arrived at my room, rested my back on the wall. My emotions felt heavy to express, I was overwhelmed by the fact that the throne could have rejected me for real.

In ancient lore, it was believed that the throne held a spirit that could sense purity, strength, and unity in those destined to rule. When the King's mate chosen by the moon goddess was rejected by the throne, it signified a profound imbalance, an omen that the chosen Luna lacked the spiritual harmony necessary to align with the throne's ancient energy.

Nothing could be more upsetting than Kiara's present when this happened. My head was buried in my thighs, tears welling my eyes as I pleaded to my mother, the moon goddess, to give me answers to all these puzzles.

I still don't know what made Jackson change his mind when I was in the dungeon. I knew something must have happened since Madison was back. I stood up from the floor and went to my wardrobe. Searching for the locket my mother gave to me if I ever wanted to summon her.

In the middle of that, a knock on the door startled me.

"Who's there?"

"Madison, your highness," frown lines formed on my forehead when I heard her voice. We've never had any clash whatsoever before, but what could be her reason for coming to see me.

I kept the locket, wiped my remnants of tears before going to open the door.

"Hi, your highness," her smile brightened when she saw me. I managed to force a smile, remembering how she had saved the courtroom earlier when she mentioned the throne could have been tampered on.

"Can I come in, please?"

"Yeah, sure," she entered, glancing around with a smile.

"A room that best fits the Queen. You look amazing," she complimented.

"Thanks," I murmured, fidgeting. She came to sit beside me on the bed and took my hands.

"I'm here for you if you ever need anybody to talk to. The throne is yours but you need to fight for it. And during this process, I want to be your friend," she smiled. I saw the sincerity in her eyes.

"Sure. Has the King questioned the maid?" I asked.

"Hmm, I don't know about that. Maybe I should ask Mason, he would come to fill you in," she suggested.

"Nah, it's fine. I'm just asking you since you're here," I declined. She only chuckled and nodded.

"I would love to know more about you some other time. But right now, the healer needs me. The kids are having diarrhea after consuming some weird looking food from the human world," she said as she stood up.

"All right, Maddy. I'll see you around," she arched her eyebrows in surprise.

"Maddy?" She repeated, "Why do I like that?" We both chuckled at her words as we walked to the door.

"When next I'm coming, I should give you a name as well. A name that best fits the Queen," I only nodded with a smile. I know what she's trying to do, she wanted to make me feel at ease and believe everything was going to be alright.

And for that, I really appreciate her.

"No problem. And I would want to know about the food the kids consumed," she nodded before walking out of the room.

I sighed deeply before going back to perch on the bed. I began taking off all my accessories, smiling at the light conversation I just had with Maddy.

After a while, a knock came on the door again.

"You're back?" I asked, opening the door. My expression grew in confusion when I saw Kiara. She had a smirk playing on her lips with her arms crossed.

"What are you doing here?" I frowned.

"Oops," she faked a gasp, "Rejected Luna is acting high and mighty," she mocked, making me roll my eyes. I'm not really in the mood for this.

"What are you doing in my room?" I requested in a calm tone. Her presence was making me have thoughts of her involvement with what happened.

"I want to relay a message to you," she responded and what she did next shocked me.
