Chapter 2 CAMILLA

It's been five years already since I left the pack. I sat behind my desk in my office in the hospital, going through my patients' files, a lot of them.

I was so stressed out that my body hurt from the numerous working. It hasn't been quite easy for me lately, and as the day passed by, things became a lot more difficult for me.

I had packed my stuff, ready to go. It was already a few minutes past two p.m. and I needed to be at the kindergarten to pick up my kids. I will always be grateful to the doctor who never carried out the abortion and only made me look extremely feeble that day to deceive the Alpha.

Meanwhile, I had to stop by the grocery store to buy a few things; like new pairs of twin clothes and shoes, toys, and water bottles.

It hasn't been quite easy for me as a working-class mother, yet raising two adorable kids at the same time. Seeing their faces alone gives me hope, and I wouldn't have had them with me if I had listened to Lawrence.

Well, my life has been perfect without him. Ever since the day I walked out of that pack, I felt what it was like to be free. Things worked out for me. Getting my dream job was more like a testimony, I never expected I'd be what I am today, and, surprisingly, lots of hospitals have been calling me for a job offer but I couldn't accept their offer since I was waiting for a big promotion which I applied for in the hospital I work with.

Even with having this job as a medical professional, it hasn't been quite easy for me, but here I am, every patient's favorite doctor. And...I wouldn't have been in this position if not for Lawrence.

All thanks to him.

As I drove to my children's school, I came to a halt. Mrs. Monica had been phoning me to remind me that my kids were waiting for me.

Mrs. Monica was the kind of teacher who never complained. She understood my position, but she never stopped calling to let me know that my kids needed me the most.

She'd tell me how the day had been with her and the kids, how they kept saying "they are missing mummy" with that angelic voice of theirs.

"I'm close. Just give me five seconds and I'll be there." I told her before cutting the call.

I stood by the door, watching as she played with my children. She wasn't being partial, she would do the same to the other kids, making sure none was left behind. And she knows how to handle the children after the closing hours, making sure they ain't bored while waiting for the parents in the best way.

"Oh, here comes mummy." She said, pointing towards my direction.

I couldn't help but laugh as I walked towards her. "How are you doing, Mrs. Monica?" I asked,

"Oh, dear child, it's always the same every day. Well, your kids are becoming sweeter day by day. They are lucky to have you."

I chuckled. "That's all thanks to you." My children hugged me and I carried one George, while Mrs. Monica helped me carry Mira to my car. I placed them on the back seat and handed them the goodies I bought them.

They happily smiled at me and thanked me.

"Mrs. Monica, I thought I should just give you this." I gave her fifty dollars, "Just a little token from me to you."

"You don't have to, taking care of babies has always been my job." She refused, but I wasn't pleased to have that cash dipped back into my purse.

"I'll take my corrections for next time. But you still have to accept the money." I grinned.

She knew I wasn't going to let her go until she accepted the money, she had no choice.

"See you tomorrow then." I waved at her, hooping in. I started the engine, revising out of the compound.

I would glare through the rearview mirror to watch as my twins played with their toys and I would laugh, finding them quite funny.

The sound of my ringtone interrupted and I searched my bag for my phone. Picking it up, I glared at the caller ID, it was Doctor Desmond calling.

Why would he be calling me? Did something happen?

I picked up the call, placing my phone on my left ear. "Hello?"

"Mrs. Wilmer, we've got a problem."

My heart skipped a beat, "Did I do something wrong?" I asked, curious.

"No, it's an emergency call. A victim has been rushed to the hospital right now, his condition is worse and we need your attention at the moment."

"Oh, I'm so sorry, Desmond, my shift is over and I'm on my way home with my babies. I can't drive back to the hospital right now. What about Ivan, he can take my place."

"I already spoke with Ivan and he agreed, but the manager insisted that you should be present too. The victim's case is worse, and we need your help."

I sighed, bringing the car to a stop. "Fine. I'll be there in ten." I said, making a rough turn as I headed back to the hospital.

I wondered how serious this situation could be that would warrant my attention.

Stopping at the hospital parking space, I asked my children to stay back in the car, walking as fast as I could to the emergency ward.

A nurse came to help me out and I asked her to keep my children company while I made my way to the emergency room as directed.

Doctor Mark just walked out, looking devastated. He sighed in relief as soon as he saw me. "Am I late?" I asked, putting on my hand gloves.

"Not really. The operation is going on, but we still haven't arrived at the main effect." He said as we walked in.

"What are we looking at?" I asked, covering my nose with the nose mask. "The victim was involved in a ghastly accident. Unfortunately, he was shot and hit by a truck. We've found two bullets, but there seems to be another only that we can't find."

I looked at the monitor, "We could clearly see a metal object displayed, but we can't find it in his body." He added.

After the operation went successfully, I felt relieved and sent my children home to their nanny while I stayed back in the office to complete my previous work.

Two days later, I was busy in my office when a nurse walked in, holding a box.
