Tears spilled down my face as I struggled to find the words to express my pain.
"You can't do this, Derrick," I sobbed. "You can't just call off our engagement and then get engaged to another woman. Not after all we've been through together."
I was heartbroken and confused. Why was it so easy for Derrick to turn his back on me? Why couldn't he trust me? Why didn't he give me a chance to explain? The questions burned in my mind like a flame, bringing me pain and doubt.
"I can do whatever I want," Derrick yelled. "Especially if it means leaving someone like you. You disgust me."
He showed me a picture on his iPad. It was a picture of me with another man.
"You cheated on me, Malisa," he screamed, his eyes blazing with fury. "How dare you betray me! How dare you do this and not feel sorry! You thought I wouldn't find out?"
I was shocked and scared. I didn't know what to say. The picture wasn't real, but I knew accurate wouldn't believe me.
"I didn't cheat on you," I cried, feeling helpless. "That man is just a friend from college. We coincidentally met in an eatery....."
But Derrick didn't believe me. His mother, Nana Elizabeth, crushed any hope I had.
"You're lying!" she yelled. "Derrick's friend saw you go into the same room together. Derrick, don't believe her. She's just a slut."
Derrick's eyes were filled with anger and doubt. I wanted him to see the truth in my eyes. I wanted him to believe me. But I knew he wouldn't.
"No!" I screamed, my voice hoarse from crying. "That's not true. You have to believe me. I love you."
But Derrick's face was hard and cold. He didn't mark me, so he couldn't smell if I had been with someone else.
"Get out," he said, his voice cold as ice. "I never want to see you again."
"Stay away from us," Katherine hissed, hurrying after Derrick. "My love, wait for me. Don't strain yourself," she called to him.
I tried to get up and run after Derrick, but Nana Elizabeth stopped me. She grabbed my hair and pulled me back, making me fall on my butt.
I cried out in pain and frustration, but she just laughed. "You're not going anywhere," she sneered. "You're nothing but a worthless, cheating slut. Now stay out of our lives forever."
The pain and betrayal cut deep, stabbing like a dagger in my heart.
"Ah," I groaned as I fell, my eyes meeting Nana Elizabeth's. Casper, her husband, stood silently behind her, observing the scene without a word.
"See how low you are," Nana Elizabeth spat at me. "That's exactly where you belong, you wretched bitch."
I couldn't believe it. I thought she liked me, that we were like a mother and daughter. But it was all a lie. She had been pretending all this time. Everything was a lie.
"You'll never be a Luna," Nana Elizabeth sneered. "Not to my son. He's an Alpha, and you're not good enough. You're not worthy of his status or his love. You'll never be anything but a pathetic, low-class Omega."
"What did I do to deserve this?" I demanded, my voice trembling with rage and despair. "I never sent that email. I never cheated on Derrick. I loved him with all my heart. I showed my unconditional love to him and to you. So why am I being treated this way? Why am I being falsely accused?"
I tried to stop the tears, to be strong and confront Nana Elizabeth and Casper, but it was no use. They had already made up their minds. They had already condemned me.
But my heart and will was too broken for me to cease those tears from gushing out.
"You thought a woman like you could marry my son?" Nana Elizabeth jeered, her laugh dripping with mockery. "A poor woman with no background or family. You thought you could become part of our prestigious family, the richest family in the world? You're nothing but a filthy Omega, not worthy of our status or wealth. You must be foolish and stupid to think you had any chance with my son." She mocked me with a laughter that sounded so fake, but nonetheless, still jabbed at my sore heart.
"But you promised me. You approved of our relationship and gave us your blessings. You told me it was your way of appreciating me for donating one of my kidneys to Derrick. You promised that he will marry me." i pointed out those words Nana Elizabeth had used to cajole me.
Was I a fool to have believed Derrick and his parents? Was I foolish to have blindly trusted theunquestioninglyWas I stupid to have believed in love and fated mate?
"Because I had to make sure you donated that kidney. I had to make sure that my son wouldn't die. And if you truly love him like you said, then why are you throwing it at our faces now? You willingly signed the papers. We didn't force you. So don't make it soundplease please please like you were tricked. You did it out of love. We don't owe you anything." She said, clicking her tongue. There was no single pity in her eyes.
I was still shocked to the bones that everyone had suddenly changed. The smiles and warmth that used to paint their faces were replaced bywereowls and hatred. They suddenly became new and distant people overnight.
And I couldn't help but couldn't this was all planned. A plan to deceive me.
The most painful truth was the baby growing inside of me. A baby that survived the removal of one of my kidneys. A baby conceived in deception, now stuck in a mess that I didn't create.
Did they even understand the consequences of their actions? Did they care about the life they had ruined, the love that had been torn apart, the unborn child now caught in the crossfire?
The ache in my heart spread like a disease, turning my soul to ash and my hope to dust.
"So was this your plan?" I couldn't help but burst into tears again. It seemed like the only outlet for my immense pain at the moment. Else, it could choke me up. And I feared for my baby.
"All you need to get into that thick and poor skull of yours is that your engagement with my son has ended. Your sack letter will be sent via an email in less than r. And this means you no longer have any attachment to the Ortega family. You will get your severance pay accordingly. But don't expect any more from us. Let my son be happy with his new mate and soon-to-be Luna." Nsoon-to-beeth said.
"Katherine Rodriguez is perfect for my son," Nana Elizabeth boasted, her words like poison daggers. "A woman of his caliber. Not an Omega whore like you, trying to leech off him. Just do me a favor and GET OUT OF OUR LIVES!"
She sauntered out of thstrolledeaving me alone with Casper, her husband, and my broken dreams. Her words echoed in my mind like a haunting melody of hate and betrayal, leaving me bruised and battered.
A bunch of emotions were bustling through my entire being. Perplexed, Perplexed was still a bit shameless, peg me to beg Alpha Casper for help. Any slight chance of hope that could be lightened in this darkest time of her life.
"Please, please, I love Derrick. Help me talk to him. Please, I can't let him go. I didn't send that email. I also didn't cheat on him. I swear I didn't. I love him too much to betray him like that." I sobbed, grabbing onto Derrick's father's arm.
"There's only one thing I can help you with." Alpha Casper said to me, and it made me perk up. His tone was ever soft, but there was no life in his eyes. He had always seemed like a living dead, even as a retired billionaire and an aged Alpha.
"Please, tell me., I said in a desperate tone as I felt like there might still be a chance to prove my innocence and get back together with Derrick.
"I can help you disappear forever."
