Chapter 4 Meeting his family

Chapter Four-

MAX POV

"My fiancee asked that I take her out today, really sorry I can't go out with you. Maybe tomorrow or any other day," Jack said on the phone.

I sighed. "It's fine, have fun. I might just go out myself today and every other day," I said.

"Max, I will advise you like a big brother, I support your dad in you having a wife, so you wouldn't be feeling lonely," Jack said.

If only he knew I will soon get married, I thought in my head.

"I have heard enough of getting married. Relax, I will one day," I said. "I might get married before you," I added.

"Hahahahahahahaha," Jack laughed hard over the phone. "I will be waiting for that day then," and hung up, still laughing.

I would have told him about Jane but I want my family to be the first to hear about it.

.

.

.

The day for Jane to finally meet my family was the day I went back to the house. I couldn't stand my dad so I stayed at my house till today.

"Where is my father?" I asked the maid that opened the door.

"He is with your mom in the study," she replied and left.

I walked to the room and heard mom and dad whispering something together.

I bothered not knocking, and just entered the room.

"Mom and Dad," I cleared my throat to get their attention.

Mom and Dad looked at me with so much love in their eyes. I told mom the day Jane signed the contract. I'm sure she has spread the news to her beloved.

.

.

My dad's eyes narrowed. "Max, I thought she at least had connections?"

I shook my head. "No, Father. I said she is... different, just a normal girl. She doesn't come from our world."

My mom's eyes widened. "You mean she's not wealthy or influential?"

I nodded. "That's right. She's just a normal girl, living her life."

My dad's face darkened. "What use is she to us, then?"

My jaw clenched. "She's smart, resourceful, and kind. And I think she could be good for me, for us."

Mom looked concerned. "Max, are you sure you're not making a mistake? Your dad's right, she doesn't have anything to offer us."

My eyes flashed with determination. "I'm not looking for someone to advance our business interests, Mom. I'm looking for someone to share my life with," I said almost out of anger.

My dad snorted. "Sentimental nonsense, Max. You'll regret this. I know I told you to get married but not this. If you're getting back at me, I'm sorry," my dad said.

But I stood firm, eyes locked on my father's. "It's not about getting back at you. I love her. Besides, you wanted your only son to get married and here I'm bringing a bride home, but you want to bring in a gay law that states who has fame should get married to who has fame as well?" I asked.

"No, no Max. I don't think I approve of this wedding."

"You have to, Dad. It's my choice and I'm getting married to her. You kept pressing me to bring a woman. I thought even a mad one would do. But the truth of everything is that I love this woman," I said.

"Max, listen to your dad. She doesn't even have connections, she's not known. If it was so hard choosing a bride I would have arranged a blind date with those rich models on TV or with those elite daughters," Mom said.

"She is coming today. Her name is Jane, she is very pretty. And I'm getting married to her."

I said and walked out of the room. I know it's a contract marriage and all but I would love to piss him off since he wanted his beloved son to get married so soon. "30 years old is so soon," my subconscious mind tells me. I can't marry from those elite because they will want love from me, they will want commitment, they will not accept a contract marriage and I can't give them that.

I told the maids to prepare for today's dinner that it's the best that could ever happen.

The tension in the house was palpable, as the Blackwood family's dynamics and motivations came to a head.

JANE POV

The D-day to finally meet his parents arrived.

The dress Max sent for me was not really my style and my color so I wore a small black short gown. Black is my favorite color so I have mostly black clothes and purchase black clothes too.

I took a white bag and white heels to match the gown. I wore some silver jewelry, I packed my hair in a ponytail with a light make-up on my face.

I heard a horn outside. I peeped from my window and saw a black rocky car. He sent someone to pick me. Such a show-off man, I said, or such a gentleman my subconscious mind added.

I walked down the stairs, and remembered how mom was so happy when I told her I will be getting married. Even Emily and Mary were surprised and happy. I would have been happy if it was true but after a year all this is over.

The driver opened the car door as I walked in majestically. The night view of the road to the Blackwoods was so fine.

After what seems like a forever ride, we look at a big mansion. The house was heavenly. The gate was so huge.

I steeled myself for the encounter, my heart pounding in anticipation. The Blackwood family's world was one of wealth and power, and I was about to become a player in their game of love, money, and deceit.

As I approached the grand entrance, the sound of my heels clicking on the pavement echoed through the silence. I was about to meet the family that would soon be mine, and the man who would be my husband. With a deep breath, I pushed open the door and stepped into the lion's den.
