Chapter 5 The might

Catherine Point Of View

That night, as Wilton walked me home, I noticed him constantly scanning our surroundings, his eyes darting from the shadows to the windows of my house. It was as if he was searching for something or someone. I felt a shiver run down my spine as I wondered what he was looking for.

When we entered the house, I saw that Gift, my daughter, was already fast asleep. I had made arrangements for a temporary maid to take care of her, picking her up from school and watching over her until I got back.

"Would you like some coffee?" I asked him, noticing he was still staring at my dead husband's pictures on the wall.

"A glass of water will be okay," he replied, his eyes never leaving the photos.

I walked into the kitchen to get him the water, but when I returned, I found him still standing in front of the pictures. "That's my husband, Mike," I said, placing the glass on the table. "He died a year ago. He was on his way to defend his Ph.D. thesis when he had an accident and died on the spot."

Wilton's gaze finally shifted from the pictures to me, and he said, "I never died, Catherine. I'm here."

I was taken aback, my mind racing with questions. "What do you mean you never died? You're...Mike?" I stuttered, feeling a sense of unease.

Wilton's expression remained calm, but his eyes seemed to hold a deep intensity. "I'm here to protect you, Catherine. And Gift."

I felt like I was living in a dream, a nightmare that I couldn't wake up from. "Protect us from what?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

Wilton's gaze never wavered. "From those who want to harm you. From the truth that's been hidden for too long."

I shook my head, trying to clear the cobwebs. "I don't understand. You're...Mike, my husband. But you're...Wilton, the student."

Wilton's smile was enigmatic. "I'm both, Catherine. And I'm here to uncover the secrets that have been haunting you."

"The mystery here is that I am Mike in a teenager's body," Wilton said, his eyes locked on mine. "It's true, I had an accident, and I am also surprised to find myself back alive."

I was losing it, my mind racing with questions and fears. "What are you saying? Are you crazy or what?" I took a step back, trying to create some distance between us.

Wilton's expression remained calm, but his words sent chills down my spine. "Catherine, I know this may sound or look scary or unreal to you, but I want you to believe me. I am Mike, your husband. There are things I can't really explain now, but I will definitely tell you everything."

My voice rose to a scream. "How the hell do you know my name? Who told you my full name?" I demanded, my eyes blazing with anger and fear.

Wilton's gaze never wavered. "I know everything about you, Catherine. And I'm here to protect you and Gift from what's coming."

I shook my head, trying to clear the cobwebs. This was insane. This couldn't be happening. But Wilton's words and his eyes seemed to hold a truth that I couldn't deny. And that was what scared me the most.

" It's because i am your husband, of course i know everything about, you were born in November 3rd 1989, you are turning 32 this years, your favourite food is plantains and black beans. I know everything about you, right from your favourite color, to your favourite cloth. I know all this because I am your husband. " He kept backing himself up. i was loosing my mind at him.

" Now get out " i said. " i can't listen to this crap again " i said out.

" Okay i understand all this might make you feel somehow which bring the mixed feelings, but i will leave tonight, i will come back next time, but Elizabeth, this is the truth and its a myth i also can't explain " He said as he carried his bag and walked outside.

I was seething with anger and confusion as I watched Wilton walk out of my house. His words echoed in my mind, making me feel like I was losing my grip on reality. How did he know all those intimate details about me? It was as if he had been watching me, stalking me, and I couldn't bear the thought.

I slammed the door shut behind him, trying to shut out the chaos that had just erupted in my life. But my mind was racing, refusing to let go of the questions that Wilton's words had raised. Was he really Mike, my husband, come back to life in a teenager's body? Or was he just a master manipulator, using his knowledge of me to control me?

I couldn't shake off the feeling that my life was about to change in ways I couldn't imagine. And as I stood there, frozen in uncertainty, I knew that I had to find out the truth. No matter how painful it might be.

As I turned to go back inside, I noticed a piece of paper on the floor, near the door. It was a note, written in familiar handwriting. "Catherine, I know this is hard to believe, but I'm telling the truth. I'll be back, and next time, I'll prove it to you. - Mike"

My heart skipped a beat as I read the note, my mind reeling with questions. Was this some kind of sick joke, or was I really being given a second chance with the love of my life? I didn't know what to believe, but I knew one thing for sure - I had to find out the truth.
