Chapter 8 The letters

A woman suddenly took hold of the man I was choking. I looked at her; she is Anne Hunt, the restaurant owner. I let the man go. The attacker collapsed on the ground. Anne made the man stand up and look at me. It seemed to her face that she was furious at my action. I was simply standing there, gazing at him.

Anne poked me on the right shoulder. I turned my gaze towards her. "Stop it. That poor guy is not mentally stable. His condition has been like that since his whole family was killed in a car accident. His condition is getting worse," Anne said with a sad face.

I sigh. I pressed my lips together. "Sorry to hear that. But he attacked me first. I was defending myself. He had that wooden stake that he attacked me with," I said while picking up the wooden stake from the ground. Anne gave me a death stare. She then nodded her head in frustration. I lower my eyes in shame.

Anne then escorts the man into the restaurant. I was confused. I was thinking that Anne is a strange woman. Because she is mad at me for defending myself. I was simply gazing at her. Then I walked into the restaurant. I saw Anne walking towards me. She seemed even angrier to me than before. She came and stopped near me.

"You pressed his neck so hard that it left a mark on his neck. I cannot believe you did this to him," Anne yelled. I was looking at her in astonishment. As I opened my mouth to speak, she raised her forefinger and asked me to be quiet. "I do not want to hear any excuse. I expect you to act gentler around people. You are a police officer," Anne said without expression.

I looked up at her. "He attacked me first. I acted like people act in this situation," I said with a nervous smile. Anne walked away without saying anything. I nodded my head. I stood there for a minute and then sat on a chair near me. I was sitting on the chair with my head down. I started staring at the surface of the table.

A second later, when I lifted my head slightly up, I laid my eyes on Bella, who was standing on the counter. As I saw her, I rose to my feet and started walking out of the restaurant. I do not want to talk to her because I feel myself responsible for her pain. I want to help her, but I cannot do anything to ease her pain. Suddenly, I heard my name.

I ignored it, as I did not hear anything. I sprinted to the alley in front of me. It was dark here. The one streetlamp was on, and the light was dim. I then stood and leaned against the wall. I lifted my head and closed my eyes. I was thinking about why I do not remember anything. Meanwhile, I felt warmth in my right hand. I opened my eyes and looked at my right side.

I saw Bella standing and holding my hand. She was laughing and looking at me. I was shocked to see Bella standing next to me. I gently removed my hand from her. I smile. "What are you doing here?" I asked without sarcasm.

Suddenly, the smile disappeared from Bella's face. Now, she is looking serious. She was simply gazing at me. She was sweating profusely. I lowered my gaze. I was not looking at her directly. She took too much time to answer me.

"I called you, but I think you did not hear me. I want to know if you have any news about my sister," Bella said with a sad face. I touched the back of my head. "Hmmm... no, I do not have any information about her. I looked at the ground for a minute and then looked at her. I think she left the town before you came here." Before I say anything, Bella cut me off rudely. "No, no, no, she cannot leave me. I know she was here because she has no other place to go. There is no one in the whole world except me. I have already told you. She nodded her head.

"I think she was with someone. Bella then put her right hand in the right pocket. She took out the paper and one picture. She then handed it over to me. I took hold of the paper and then opened it. It was a letter from her sister, Aroura.

Before I said anything, Bella started speaking. "In this, she informed me that she found someone here and she is deeply in love with him. He is a quiet, gentle man. She was happy with him. She has also written that she will give me good news soon.

I was quietly listening to her. She then drew my attention to the picture. I turned my gaze towards the picture. Aroura was standing in front of the red door. She is wearing a long red gown. On her ring finger, there was a diamond ring. The ring looked expensive.

Bella sighed and started speaking again. "I think the man is rich." After hearing that, I looked at Bella with narrow eyes. "How can you say this with certainty?" I asked with a surprised face. She looked at the picture one more time.

"The ring is expensive. She did not have that much money. Only that man who she was with can give her," she said without emotion. I nodded my head. I folded the letter and put it in my coat right pocket along with the picture. I then turned my gaze to Bella.

"I am keeping the letter and picture as evidence for now. If you do not mind, can I ask you one more question? Hmmm. How did she communicate with you? I mean, did she ever contact you on the phone, or did she always send you letters, and how many letters have you received from her?" I asked with a worried face.

She lowered her gaze for a second, then looked at me. "We never talked on the phone. I have received many letters, but I have brought this one because, in it, she spoke about him for the first time. I think it could help you find her," she said with a sad face.

I remained silent. I was processing the information. Then she was walking away from me, and I suddenly started talking. "Did she ever mention where she was staying?" I asked with a worried face. Bella halted midway and turned around. "No, she never mentioned it in the letters," she said while walking off the alley.

I come out of the street and start walking on the sidewalk. The cold had increased. The fog had also increased. I kept walking on the pavement. Meanwhile, I reached the shop. It was a jewelry shop. I was standing in front of the shop, looking at the rings and lockets. They were very beautiful. I was simply gazing at them while putting my hands in my pants pockets.

In the meantime, a man walked out of the jewelry shop. Standing 5' 3" tall with cream skin, he has a boring feel about him. He has stern, little green eyes, puffy lips, and bony cheeks. He has medium-length, greasy, light brown hair.

He walked forward and moved his hand forward to shake my hand. I first looked at his hand and then moved forward to shake his hand with a smile. He then started talking. "Hmmm, my name is Emerick Boone. I am glad you came back. Do you want to buy anything else for her?

I looked at him in astonishment. "Do you know me?" I asked, expressionless. Emerick looked at me with a surprised face. "Umm, you are my regular customer. The modern designs came in yesterday. If you would like to see it, I can show it to you," Emerick said while opening the shop door.

He asked me to come into the shop with an eye gesture. I then walked into the shop. Emerick walked behind the counter and started taking out the jewelry designs. He then put it on the glass counter. I looked at the ring designs that Emerick put on the glass counter.

I did not know what took over. I suddenly got angry. Emerick is standing on his bag towards me. And I started getting angrier. My eyes turn black. I smell blood. My fang suddenly got out. I then grabbed Emerick by the neck. I dragged Emerick out of the counter, put my teeth on his neck, and started drinking Emerick's blood. I had a soothing feeling when I was drinking his blood.

Emerick was howling with trembling. There was blood all over. The blood stank to me. Emerick began pleading with me to let him go, but I was infatuated with the smell of blood at the moment. I refused to let it go.
