Chapter 5 Then Why Don't You Marry Her

Zoey's expression turned grim as she said coldly, "No, you can't divorce. Corinne is your wife. I've committed to taking responsibility for her!"

"Why don't you marry her then?" Julian responded bluntly, his tone serious.

Zoey's eyes flared with anger. "You... You're pissing me off!"

A flicker of emotion passed through Julian's eyes.

Suddenly, Zoey turned pale and struggled to say, "When you were in a coma, no one but Corinne was willing to marry you. So unless I die, you are not divorcing her. Ahem..."

Immediately after, she coughed up a mouthful of blood.

Emotion surged in Julian's eyes as he instructed, "Why are you all just standing there? Help my mom to her room and call Dr. George right now!"

The bodyguard next to Julian quickly responded, "Yes, sir!" He quickly lifted Zoey and carried her to another room.

Corinne watched the unfolding scene, her heart racing. She felt an urge to follow, but Julian blocked her way.

Julian gave her a chilling look. "We're putting off the divorce for now, and you're staying here until my mother is better."

Corinne was shocked. "Julian, what gives you the right-"

"Because this is my home," Julian interjected, his voice cold and mocking. "And you are my wife now. Isn't it only fair for you to stay and enjoy the comforts of home?"

His tone when he said "my wife" dripped with mockery.

Corinne felt a shiver run through her, and she could only watch as he turned his wheelchair and left.

The maid looked at her with pity but didn't dare go against Julian's orders, quietly shutting the door as she left.

The room became eerily silent, and Corinne collapsed onto the bed.

This situation was turning out to be much tougher than she had anticipated.

For an entire month, Corinne was confined to the maid's quarters, her freedom severely limited.

It felt like being in a prison, and her appetite vanished, leaving her frequently nauseous.

One afternoon, Corinne got a call from the law firm that had worked with her father.

"Miss Gibson, we have completed the inventory of your father's assets. He owned 89 apartments, 11 villas, 5 luxury cars, 3 plots of land, 45% of the shares in Gibson Group, various stock options valued at over ten million, and a cash reserve of eighty million."

Despite the substantial assets, converting them into liquid cash posed a challenge.

The lawyer continued, "Since your father did not leave a will, you are not automatically entitled to inherit everything. Your uncle has requested an arbitration to split the estate equally."

Split the estate equally?

Corinne's anger surged. How dare her uncle lay claim to her father's estate? No way!

"Absolutely not. I'd rather give it all away than share it with him," Corinne said through gritted teeth.

The lawyer, anticipating her response, explained, "Under the current laws, if a person has been comatose for over three months without a will, their relatives are entitled to an equal share of the estate. However, Miss Gibson, if you can deposit 5% of the estate's value as a security, which would be one hundred million, you can extend the period to six months."

One hundred million!

All Corinne had was the fifty million Zoey had given her, nothing more. She couldn't let her father's assets be squandered by Robert.

But from where could she possibly muster another fifty million?

Suddenly, Julian's stern, unyielding face came to Corinne's mind, sending a shiver through her spine.
