Chapter 5 Terrible first day at work

"Oh my word! I am so sorry, I will help you out!" She bends her knees and just when she was about to pick up the papers, a strong hand stops her and one of the man dressed in a black suit picked them up very fast.

Before she can even react to that, someone grabs her by her neck and asks "who the hell sent you here? Why do you suddenly want to pick up the papers?"

She had no clue as to what that question meant, one thing she knew for sure was that today was not her lucky day. First, her grandmother splashed water over her while she was sleeping and now she has a man strangling her to death.

Who the hell did I offend in this world. Whoever I offended should forgive me please, this is too much for me. She silently pray in her.

Before she could shout for help, the man dressed in a blue suit stops him and says "leave her for now, if she has been sent to be a spy by our enemies she will not last in this place, only time will tell with her."

She frowned when she heard such, why do these people think I am a spy, what is this? Why do they have such thoughts about me. Isn't this an apparel design company or is there an important project that they have and they suspect someone might snatch it away from them. She asked herself.

Who are these people and why do they have guns? I am confused isn't this a company? She still asked herself these questions unfortunately she couldn't speak out loud.

Anger was brewing inside of her and she couldn't control it anymore. She ended up slapping him real hard on the face then said "listen here I am not scared of you even a little bit and the fact that you are dressed in a black suit and have a gun is nothing to me, I will give you a big kick and you will never have children ever in your life. I may be petite but I am not someone to be trifled with. I came here to work and that is just exactly what I will do, do not make me lose my job on my first day, if you ever stand in my way again believe me when I say this. You will never have children ever in your life."

Luckily the elevator door opened the moment she finished saying those words. So she stomped out of the elevator.

She did not know where she got the courage from but something in her told her that she got to give them a piece of her mind so they will know that she was not someone to be trifled with.

If they work in this company then that is way better because they will never mess with her ever again.

I was literally fuming inside of me and believe me when I say this, I do not know what I would have done if that man returned the slap back to me. What made me angry was the guts he had to actually strangle me. No, I had to slap him, he has no right to strangle me. Even my own parents did not do that when they were still alive. Then who was he to do that to me?

Who the hell does he think he is? Why does he think he has the right to strangle me? Oh this man has really made me angry. I wish I could go back and beat the hell out of me. She spoke this words to herself then shook her head.

She looked around the environment she was in and she saw that few people kept on looking at her.

She did not understand why they were gossiping about her but then it was indeed her first day so everyone will want to know about the new girl right!

A guy almost the same age as her stood in front of her and asked "are you Melinda Davids?"

She frowned wondering how he knows her name but still answered him "yes I am and you are?"

"Oh I am Alex, Mr Valentino's personal secretary and he has asked me to direct you to the design department, let us go it is this way. Let us go this way so I can show you the restrooms and the canteen."

She followed him as they headed to the design department's direction and she was very impressed with the layout of this place and just before they entered the design department, she saw a big picture of a young lady with a beautiful cocktail dress.

"Wow this dress is so beautiful, wow I would love to meet who ever designed such a beautiful dress."

The guy chuckles and she did not understand why he was acting like this. He saw that she was a bit confused so he said to her, "I hope you only say such to me and no one else, the lady wearing the dress would kill you when he hears you praising the dress instead of her beauty."

Oh so this is what he was laughing at, gosh me and my big mouth I did not even notice that I had said something wrong.

Well the girl is also pretty but I am not interested in her, well I am straight so why would I be interested in a girl.

Although she did not tell him that, he might just think she was a crazy girl. But if they were close, she would have definitely told him that.

"Oh forgive me, I am just obsessed with dresses especially when they are this pretty."

"Oh no I have no problem but that comment, let us keep it to ourselves in order to live in peace in this department."

They entered the department and he shows her to her cubicle, then he directs her to the department manager.

He knocks in an office that is at the left corner of the department. "Come in." A female voice says inside the office.

They entered the office then he drags a chair ant tells her to sit on it. She looked at him and he still made signs for her to sit on the chair. When she sat, he then sat next to her.

He draws in a long breath then he says, "This is Melinda Davids the new designer in your department. The bosses have asked me to tell you to take good care of her."

I can see annoyance on her face as Alex says that and believe me I have dealt with such back where I am coming from.

I can tell without her saying anything that she does not like me and I wonder why.

The worst part of it all is that she will be my boss. This only means one thing, working here will be hell just like living in that house. She dared not say such out loud but kept it to herself.

"Oh and did you tell her that I do not like working with lazy rats." She spoke with such arrogance, my gosh I hate such people.

"Oh Miss Stevens this is one young lady that will make your department shine, you will not regret having her with you."

"Oh you speak so well about her, is she your girlfriend?" She still looked at Melinda with hatred, gosh Melinda looks at herself and thinks that she probably will need to change whatever she was using when taking a bath. It was making people hates her.

She held her laughter, she so much wanted to laugh but held herself. Laughing here wouldn't be good especially since she has an attitude towards her.

"Miss Stevens we may smile towards each other but we still need to respect each other. Even if she was my girlfriend I do not have to report it to you. If you want to see the other side of the bosses then make her life in the department a living hell, we will see who will get to cry back home at the end of the day."

Oh yes! His voice was very firm, he told her off but in a very polite way. I like this guy, it seems as if me and him will get along very well with each other. If the department director could hear what she was saying inside of herself, oh that would be a disaster.

Alex stood up and looked at her then said "let us go back to your cubicle, Miss Stevens still has to prepare work for you."

They left her office and they heard few things being thrown on the floor then she turned and looked at Alex with a worried face "why is she so angry at me when I have not met her before."

"That is simply because you got the job instead of her cousin. So you better be careful she will do her best to sabotage your work just so you can be fired and her cousin takes your place."

"Oh! I never thought that what I usually read on novels actually happens in real life."

"Do not worry yourself too much, you have the old lady's backing, even though her grandson is the boss but she still makes the last decisions especially in the design department."

"By old lady you mean the one that interviewed me the other day."

"Yes, she has eyes in all this building. So do not worry you are protected. Let me go back to my work and oh before I forget Mr Valentino has asked that you meet him at twelve noon. I will come pick you up."
