Chapter 5 Kaira's POV

"Are you okay sir?" I asked when I noticed the phone call had changed his countenance.

" Yes I am, I just need to rush off somewhere, my assistant will attend to you and brief you about everything you need to know... Tomorrow you will meet your Superior" he said.

" And I didn't give you this job because of the kiss we shared at that party, your Resumé is awesome that's all" he added.

" Okay sir" I replied as he left me in the office hurriedly.

That was surely a bad phone call he received. Why do bad things happen to people when I'm around them? I scoffed to myself, I walked out of the office and went over to where the personal assistant office was, she sat there with her legs crossed staring at me suspiciously. Her name tag at the side of her red chiffon shirt read "Tanya Davidson"

Was she the Tanya that the woman was talking about?

" So, Mr Tate said that you..."

She cut me off

"I know what Mr Tate said, this isn't the first time we employ new people, lady."

"Okay??? I don't mean to be rude, I just...."

"You just what? Slept your way through to get this job? Please tell me how you did it?" She asked if her tone was low yet threatening.

" How did I do what? I'm not that kind of lady, I am experienced and I don't need to sleep around to get a position or a contract" I corrected her.

She laughed out loud then she handed me a document.

" Take this and go through it if there is the company's policy of do's and do n'ts, and if you think he would take you seriously then you are just living in a wonderland, he just wants to use you I can attest to that.

" What do you mean by that? I don't quite understand you"

"You are too young to understand but unfortunately he likes them young, have a nice day Kaila"

"It's Kaira not Kaila"

"Okay whatever, goodbye," she says rudely as she turns back to the system in front of her.

I left the office in anger, why does everyone here have to be so rude and mean?

But could she be right? Is he some kind of corrupt person? Who takes advantage of his female employees. Well if he is that kind of person then I shouldn't be too excited I got the job.

But he told me specifically that he was amazed - impressed by my Resumé.

Maybe she was trying to scare me, I thought. I can't wait to share this great news with Amaya. She would be so excited for me.

I took a cab to the library where we usually go on our off days, Amaya was there with her Fiance Reggie. They were both laughing quietly while reading the same book in the reading room. It's been a while since I saw Maya this happy. She smiled and waved at me.

"Hey, Kay! Over here" she gesticulated telling me to come sit with them.

" Hi Maya, Hi Reggie" I greeted them both.

I had no idea she would come along with her Fiance. My mom was right Maya wouldn't be always there for me completely cause she has a whole different life of her own.

"Hi Kaira, I'm sorry about what happened," Reggie said sympathetically.

I smiled at him warmly.

" You don't need to be sorry Reggie, as a matter of fact, I just landed a new job that was what brought me here" I announced smiling happily.

" Awwww!...I knew you would get this job Kay" Maya smiled, hugging me tightly.

"Congratulations Kay, let me get coffee to celebrate this win" Reggie added then he left.

"Thank you so much Reggie Guess what Maya?"

" What is it?"

"The CEO of the company applied for is that man I danced with at your birthday party, the rapist"

"OMG, are you for real?"

"Amaya I was shocked as well. But he acted so formally and so different yet he was still handsome though"

Yes, I couldn't deny the fact that he was.

"Hmmmm so this is like some scenes from the movies where you begin to fall for your boss and romance happens," Maya said dreamily.

"To be candid, I don't see myself getting attracted to any guy now"

" Don't be silly Kaila, that guy is a hottie and I am sure your pretty head won't be able to resist him.

" He is still arrogant, that would make me hate him"

My laughter ceased when I saw a familiar figure lingering in a corner, it was my ex-boyfriend Jake, the one that broke my heart and he was with a Lady, they were both holding hands and going through the books on the shelf close to the section I was in. I quickly looked away.

"Isn't that Jake?" Maya asked.

"Yes... he is, please stop looking his way," I said trying to act normal but my hands were visibly shaking.

"Too late, he is coming our way, just act normal Kaira," Maya said Rolling her eyes

I froze instantly.

"Hey Amaya! Is that Kaira?" He asked in his usual deep voice. I turned to face him, our eyes locking. He even looked hotter than when we were together, his jet-black - hair and pale skin made him look like a vampire.

"Hi Jake, what a surprise!" I responded

Staring at the blonde lady beside him.

"This is Kaira, my ex-girlfriend, Kaira, meet Elizabeth, my Fiance" She brought out a hand to shake me. I accepted it.

What he said broke my heart even more but I still composed myself, he won't see me break the second time.

"Congratulations "I and Amaya chorused.

He smiled at me as if looking for emotions but he found none.

"I wish you the best Kaira and I hope you meet someone special too like the way I met Elizabeth," he said then he kissed the bitch in my presence it was so disgusting.

"Thank you," I said shortly and watched them leave.

I sat on abruptly trying to control myself from shedding tears.

"He just had to run it on my face! He just had to!"I said a bit loudly.

" I'm sorry Kay, he is so mean, but don't be sad, you just got a job that's a win-win"

"You are right Maya"

My phone beeped immediately I checked it, it was a message, I couldn't believe my eyes.

" What did I just receive?? Oh my God"
