Chapter 2 Dream Collapsed

Next Morning...

" Angel!"

My father opens the door with a subtle push. His head is hanging down, seemingly he is here to apologize for something they actually don't think they are guilty over.

" Why did you skip the meals? You know you can't stay without a meal. Shall I order something delicious for you?" he said, approaching me with slow steps.

" I am not hungry, Dad. And it was last night. I have always had my breakfast!" I said standing up from the chair.

" Oh. What is your plan today?"

" Nothing, Dad. Just crushing bed whole day long!"

" I... I see. So, What about we go to some Chinese restaurant and have some -"

" Don't beat around the bush, Dad. You know you can say whatever you wish to!"

I know they won't think I am someone important to say sorry for everything they did last night.

" Well, Your sister is going abroad for her wedding shopping with William. So I was thinking can you go and buy the tickets for her? I would have gone but I have to attend a meeting urgently!"

" Now?" I asked since it was the first time they told me to do something about buying.

" No. Tomorrow. It's urgent. Odette doesn't want to use our private jet... So!"

" Dad! I told you I have an interview tomorrow!"

That's right. The only reason I am here is to attend my sister's engagement. But I have to return to my apartment. This matter slipped my mind.

" Can't you just miss this one? Also, I said you can work in my company!"

" Enough! Dad. Don't you know how important that job is for me? You know I can't -"

" But your sister -"

" Stop!!!! STOP! What sister? I told you I have to attend the interview and it's important. How come it is less important than some damn tickets? She has Everyone. She has Mom, his fiance, you and your power. Can't you just arrange or buy it online? Why can't you give a little priority to my wishes?"

" Julie!!!! How selfish you are!!! Your sister is getting married. She just wished one thing and you are... I am disappointed!" My mother walked into my room, furious and disappointed.

" Selfish? I wish I never had someone like her as Sister and you all as my family. I hate you -"

A sharp slap across my face makes my world deafening. The anger I had in my head suddenly left, making me feel so empty and worthless of everything.

" Now I know you are a selfish spoiled kid. Your sister is getting married. She is leaving us. But you are here being so ungrateful for everything! Why are you so unsatisfied with us? Who lives in such a lavish lifestyle? Your drawers are filled with your favourite snacks, and your credit card is filled with money. You get whatever you want. Still, being so ungrateful? Go and see the world. Lots of people can't even afford to buy a meal. We are raising you. you should be grateful for this!"

That's right I should be grateful for everything. But have they ever asked if I wanted them or not?

They bought me dresses which I can't wear. With my body, it becomes harder to breathe when I wear those dresses.

" Leave it, honey! If you don't have time, then don't. Don't push yourself hard!"

My father pats my head before leaving. Still, they don't care about my interview. I know about it. But...

This time, the choice is mine. I can't give up on my dreams...

And...

I was wrong...

I got rejected before I could even get into the room to join my interview...

The next morning, when I walked into the office room to have my interview, one of the employees stopped me.

" Are you Miss? Juliette Anderson?" she asked me politely while glancing at the list of interviewees.

" Yes. I am."

" Hello, Sorry for informing you that, your name was mistakenly included in the list of passed candidates. Our Company will give you an explanation for this later. We sincerely apologize for this big mistake!"

Her words were so confusing that I couldn't understand what she was talking about. But I was standing still, realizing that... I am no longer going to attend the interview for my dream job. Being an office worker!

" But Miss. I have already passed the exam and I have the marksheet of my written exams. How could-"

" It's a mistake, okay? As I said our company will give you an explanation for this huge mistake. But for now, you may leave!"

What are they talking about? I know, I did well in the written exam. Why is this happening? How could a good company like them a mistake? Such a huge mistake?

My dream which I raised within me for years, has collapsed before it even started. I worked hard to get here. All of them became mistakes.

The weight increased on my shoulders as I walked out of the company, devastated. Why would this have to be happy with me? I thought I finally found happiness where I could live life as I wished to.

Anyway, I decided to walk around a little before heading back home.

Buying a hot dog, I walk by the lake near the bus station. The fresh air lifts the mood instantly.

However, as I sit on a bench to enjoy my food, the sound of camera clipping gets my attention. Raising my head, I look at the person who is standing with a camera.

" Mind If I take a picture of yours?"

He is not older than me, I can guess. Not older than William as well. Has clear skin, a beautiful smile and a remarkable appearance. However, what I hate most is taking pictures without permission. And he has already taken one without my permission.

" No. And It's not a good manner to take someone's picture without any prior notice!" I coldly speak ignoring his words that are ready to form out.

" But -"

I walk away.

But I never knew that we would cross our road one day...
