Chapter 9 Crazy

Tossing and turning on the uncomfortable couch she had been napping for the last eight hours, Layla woke up by a phone call.

With her eyes still half open, she answered the call. "Hello-"

"Oh my God, don't tell me you are taking a nap." Without giving her a chance to say anything, Cathelin snapped at her. "How can you do this to me?"

Taking a deep breath, Layla grunted, "Cath, why are you shouting?"

"Okay so now I don't have the right to shout at you as well? I have been waiting for you outside the restaurant for more than thirty minutes now and you-"

Widening her eyes in shock, Layla jolted up. "What is the time?"

"It's time for you to get your lazy ass here before I come there and spank it," Catheline fumed before hanging up the call.

Slumping on the couch, Layla glanced at her phone. It was already half past eight. She was supposed to meet Catheline for dinner at quarter to eight but she ended up taking a long nap.

"She is going to kill me," she muttered before walking towards the washroom to fix her hair. She then grabbed her things and rushed out of the room.

As Layla was impatiently waiting for the elevator, someone called her out.

Closing her eyes, she muttered, "Not again."

"Hey, I called you so many times today. I thought you went home early," Percy stated.

"I was inside my chLayla , I was a bit busy," she answered.

Just then the elevator door opened. Layla stepped in followed by Percy.

"Where are you going now?"

"I am going for dinner with my friend."

"Catheline?" When she nodded her head, Percy added, "That is nice."

Giving him a weak smile, Layla kept waiting for the elevator to descend impatiently.

"Would you like to go out sometime? I mean-"

Cutting him off, Layla sighed, "Percy, why do you keep asking me out when you know my answer already."

"Look, I am not interested in going out. And it's not just with you, I don't wanna go out with anyone." Placing her hand on his arm, she added, "You are a very good friend of mine, please don't make things awkward between us."

Just then, the elevator door opened.

"I need to go now, I'll see you tomorrow." Without waiting for his reply, she rushed towards the main gate.

"I am so sorry, there was so much traffic and-" When Catheline raised her brows, Layla sighed, "Fine, I fell asleep and over napped."

"How long did your overnap last?"

"Eight hours? You slept for eight hours at work? Girl, are you okay?" Catheline queried.

"Yes-" Grabbing her hand, Layla dragged her towards the restaurant. "Let's go inside and talk, I am so hungry."

After placing their order, Catheline inquired, "Now will you tell me what's wrong? Daydreams and now these long naps during work, what is going on Layla ?"

"It's nothing," Layla replied.

"Will you please stop lying? I know you are hiding something from me."

"It's not like I am hiding something. It's complicated Cath, it's weird and if I tell you what this is all about, you might think I am crazy." Whatever Layla had been experiencing wasn't normal, in fact it was crazy and she knew that not everyone could find any sense or understand what she was going through. It's not like she didn't trust Catheline, she just didn't want her to worry about her and stress over it.

Catheline already had a lot going on in her life and Layla didn't want to add to her problems.
