Chapter 4 The Wallet Encounter

"Stop thinking about it, you brat! I was the one who gave birth to you, so I know what your father was like," Nicole replied. Then, she quietly warned, "Don't call some random guy 'dad' again. Otherwise, I will leave you abroad and not bring you back."

Hayden curled his lips. Despite his desire to respond, he didn't make a sound for fear that his mother would actually leave him abroad.

Nicole left the airport with her son to call a taxi. As she returned to the country every year to visit her mother's grave, she bought a flat in Goldwick. With a size of just 80 square feet, the apartment was anything but spacious, but it was large enough to accommodate her and her son.

She had just hailed a taxi and was about to stuff her luggage into the trunk when she suddenly spotted a figure in the distance. That tall figure in black that gives off cold vibes, isn't that the narcissistic freak I just met outside the airport bathroom?

Standing next to the man was a tall, thin woman who looked strongly familiar to Nicole from behind. Well, to be able to be paired with such a freak, this woman is probably not sane either, Nicole thought mischievously as she looked away.

It was already evening when Nicole finished tidying up the house after returning home. As she composed herself, she suddenly noticed that Hayden was unusually quiet today, and a bad feeling came to her. Heading over to the couch, she saw Hayden doing something on the laptop on his lap. When she walked over to take a look, she noticed that he was holding an ID card in his hand!

The ID card man was pursing his thin lips, looking stern with his steely black eyes. Although it was just a photo, you could see that he was very full of himself. I-Isn't he the airport freak?! "Hayden, where did you get this ID card?" Nicole fought to suppress her urge to swear. Since when did Hayden become so capable of stealing someone's ID card...

Hearing his words, Hayden closed the laptop with his ID card in his hand. Raising his face, he replied with a serious face: "I picked it up from the ground. I wanted to give it back to the man first, but I didn't because he was mean to us."

Nicole glanced at the couch, only to be speechless when she saw a black wallet placed next to Hayden. That guy seemed to have quite a bit of experience. If we don't give him his wallet back now, once he finds out, he'll definitely think we're thieves. There will be no way to prove our innocence then!

She felt somewhat helpless. This son of mine really won't give me peace for a day, she thought. She picked up her wallet from the couch and leafed through it. Inside were a dozen $100 bills and a good number of cards, from which she pulled out one that looked like a business card.

The business card was very simple; he only had a name and a phone number. "Colton Gardner..." Nicole muttered out loud. She couldn't help but feel like she had heard of the name somewhere. No matter what happens, we will return it before anything else, or else we will be in trouble. She dialed the number on her business card.

It took a few seconds for the call to go through. "Hello?" A deep, cold male voice greeted Nicole's ear.

Feeling her skin crawl in an instant, Nicole explained, "Hello, I found your wallet. I am..."

"Are you the woman at the airport?"

Nicole was scared. She didn't expect the man to have such a good memory that he could recognize her just by her voice. "Yes it's me."

Colton chuckled, but his words were dark. "You're quite cunning, aren't you? Now you have a valid reason to meet me again."
