Chapter 3 3

I strolled up to the school building, passing a few unfamiliar faces along the way. I had a feeling that quite a few students had switched schools this semester.

"Yes," Jared was correct. Nothing I could have done would have changed the outcome. The guy just up and left. And I still can't put my finger on the reason.

"Hey, sweetie. I'm fine; how about you?" I was met by Noah, one of the school's football players, with his deep, recognisable voice.

After clearing my face with a quick swish of my hand, I said, "Fine."

Before leaving, he smiled contentedly. He was popular throughout the student body where I taught.

The girl who worked with me in the lab last semester, Brittney, returned my wave. I waved at her and continued on my way,

As soon as I walked inside my classroom, I made my way to the middle row, where my favourite desk was located.

A girl sat down next to me, and I looked over at her.

Her eye colour was green. Yes, she has a lot of green, and her hair is incredibly straight.

She grinned broadly at him.

"It's Daphne here. Joining us today? Please introduce yourself." Her voice was robotic as she asked.

"Umbrie here. This is my class, so yeah. ' The effect of her voice nuzzling my belly made me chuckle.

"What's so funny?" She joked as she asked.

"Just your voice." Big grin on my face. "You are a new student?" .

"Yes." To her response, I nodded.

As soon as we started talking, the teacher came in and interrupted us.

"Good day, class..." To begin, he

Since we began with biology, my favourite subject, my morning was not too horrible.

As a result, there appeared to be more students in the room.

I had just finished arranging my drawing supplies on the desk when I caught a whiff of something. Way too common, and it seems to be working on me.

Mandarin or bergamot with a peppermint twist.

It had been six months since I had encountered this aroma, and now it was on my doorstep.

That was peculiar.

The aroma muddled my perceptions. Almost enough to make me go digging for it.

I was just starting to grow restless when the door to the classroom opened with a bang.

He was standing at the door, his hands in his pockets, his head held high, and a chill permeated the air.

Was that six months ago already? In a word, yes.
