Chapter 7 7

"Kania, don't worry about the bank debt. Just let it go, consider yourself debt-free," Nurdia said.

Kania furrowed her brow, finding her mother's words strange. "Why shouldn't I think about the bank debt?" Kania asked again.

Nurdia hesitated, unable to provide an explanation for why her daughter shouldn't think about the bank debt. "Just focus on doing your job well. Don't burden your mind too much," Nurdia requested.

Kania nodded. "I won't think about the debt. Maybe if I work harder, I can pay it off," Kania said with a smile.

Nurdia looked at Kania with concern. "Are you sure you want to go back to work at that company, Kania?" Nurdia asked.

Kania smiled and nodded, sighing softly. "If I don't stay and work there, I won't be able to pay off the bank debt. I'm just afraid the bank might use this house as collateral to pay off my debt," Kania said in frustration.

Nurdia looked at her daughter sadly, her heart aching to see Kania bearing all the losses caused by the deceitful man who promised her a sacred bond of marriage.

"Mom, I want to go to my room now," Kania requested.

Kania didn't want to dwell on the topic any longer. The more she talked about the losses caused by the scammer, the more her heart hurt.

In her room, Kania cried softly, thinking about all the losses she had suffered.

"It's all my fault. Because I asked him to marry me, I was so impatient to ask that scammer to marry me," Kania whispered.

Kania cried, regretting her actions. She leaned against the wall and gazed at the stars outside her window. While lost in thought, Kania received a text message from an unknown number.

"Who is this?" Kania asked as she read the message.

"Give me your bank account number, I will transfer all the money to pay off your debt," she read in the text message, feeling confused about the sender.

The next day, Kania, who had reconciled with herself, returned to work as usual. But this time, she came as a different Kania – one who was cold, independent, and firm.

"Good morning, Kania," Bianca greeted, Kania's work partner.

"Good morning, Bian," Kania replied with a smile.

Bianca put her arm around Kania's neck, inviting her to sit on her workbench. "How was your engagement? I'm sorry I couldn't come, I had a family event," Bianca asked.

The question reopened the wound in Kania's heart, leaving her momentarily speechless, until she heard a call from her former lover, the love scammer.

"Kania,"

Kania clenched her hands tightly, placed her bag on the table, and took out some documents from her bag.

"Kania, the boss is calling you. You should go see him now," Bianca suggested.

Kania smiled and nodded, then walked away, leaving Bianca behind. With the documents in hand, she entered her boss's office, who was also her former fiancé, with heavy steps and a heart still in pain.

"Is there something I can help with?" Kania asked.

Now their eyes met, cold and slightly sharp. Kania stared at him with disdain, while her boss returned her gaze with a cold look. Kania shifted her gaze away from her boss, focusing on the nameplate on his desk.

"Tom," Kania muttered sarcastically under her breath.

"Give me the documents, and inform all the employees that I want them to gather in the meeting room," he said.

"Alright," Kania replied.

Kania remained cold toward her boss, placing the documents on his desk and leaving while he continued to watch her.

"Behave well, so you don't get a termination letter," Tom tried to taunt Kania, infuriating her.

Kania turned back with a sharp and sardonic look in her eyes, then continued her steps to leave Tom's office.

"Kania, why do you look so upset?" Bianca asked, pointing at Kania's face.

Kania immediately touched her face and smiled slightly. She returned to her desk and resumed her work, but Bianca didn't stop pestering her.

"Kania, are you fighting with your boyfriend?" Bianca teased.

Kania didn't respond to what she said, as it was not important to her, and chose to focus on her work.

"Kania, do you want to have lunch with me?" Bianca offered.

Kania closed her document files, looked at Bianca, and said, "I'll join you if you stop bothering me."

Bianca chuckled embarrassingly, realizing that she had been bothering Kania too much. She walked away, leaving Kania at her desk.

"So annoying," Kania mumbled.

While Kania was busy working, Tom called her to his office for the second time. Kania hurried to meet her boss, although her heart was still filled with resentment.

"Is there something I can help with?" Kania asked with a slightly softer tone, not wanting her emotions to be used as a reason for her to be dismissed from her job.

Tom smiled at her, making her disgusted by his seemingly mocking smile.

"I want you to make coffee for me," he requested.

Kania sighed before venting her emotions, "Do you think I'm a servant? I'm your secretary, my job is only to assist you with scheduling and anything work-related," Kania retorted.

Tom chuckled slightly, "Are you angry with me just because I didn't answer your call that day?" he asked, showing no remorse whatsoever.

Kania couldn't contain her emotions any longer, and she let out all the pent-up frustration. "You're so shameless," Kania exclaimed.

Tom continued to smirk, seemingly unaware of his wrongdoing. "So, you're mad because I left you at that foolish engagement? Don't you remember who asked me to get engaged right away?"

Kania fell silent, realizing that all of this was her own terrible mistake. She had asked a man to marry her and was willing to take out loans from the bank to host an engagement party and prepare for a wedding.

"Your foolishness, for being too trusting of others," Tom concluded, his tone mocking.

Kania couldn't hold back her tears and quickly left Tom's office. She headed to the restroom near the office to calm herself down before her emotions overwhelmed her. Kania cried softly, holding back her sobs, and trying to ease the pain in her chest.
