Chapter 5 Who Are You Working For

The parking spot was quite a distance from the lift, and William was drenched in sweat. Henry, who was already agitated, was constantly obstructed. If the press learned of this, getting William to a doctor would become even more difficult.

His patience had run out, and he glared angrily at Caroline. The intense stare startled her, causing her to take an instinctive step back in fear.

This was not Henry's previous expression. It wasn't as aggressive as William's, but it was like waking up in the middle of the night to find a murderer staring back at you, unblinking. She lowered her hand unconsciously, avoiding eye contact, her legs trembling slightly.

"Will, we still have quite a distance to go; can I carry you?" Henry turned to William.

"Mm." His response was so soft that Henry almost missed it, but it warmed his heart. William was awake but appeared to be in pain; his brow furrowed tightly throughout. His brow pressed firmly against Henry's shoulder, as if to relieve the pain.

Henry quickly adjusted his stance to carry William. William was far from light, and Henry, who had only just awoken, felt shaky from the exertion. Thankfully, William cooperated by clinging to him tightly.

Hesitantly, he said to William, "If you're in pain, bite into me, just not with your tongue."

He despised his own lack of knowledge about William's condition. Henry could only recall a movie scene in which the protagonist bit his tongue to stay awake. He was worried that William would hurt himself.

The voice behind them rang out again as he moved forward with William in his arms.

"I'll say it again, Henry Scott: hand Will over to me. You have no right to remove him." Oliver persisted in his pursuit.

"Robert, are you a mole for another family?" Henry abruptly turned around to confront Robert, who had been hesitating in the back, with an unexpected question.

His words caused Robert, who was still hesitant, to furrow his brows in confusion. "Mr. Henry, what exactly are you implying?"

In their previous lives, Robert had been one of the few who had been genuinely loyal to and cared for William. Henry's words to him were meant to emphasise his role. Regardless of past loyalties, Henry would not hesitate to remove Robert from William's side if he became a hindrance in this life.

"We only have about four minutes before the press and party guests arrive. This will be front-page news tomorrow."

"I reiterate that William's safety is of the utmost importance. Are you ignoring your master's safety in favour of listening to a secretary? Do you work for William or Oliver?"

"It's all your fault. Will is like this, and you have no right to say things like that." Oliver, on the other hand, wished to retaliate in rage but was unable to stop Henry.

"Well, it certainly isn't a secretary's place to interfere."

Oliver wanted to rush forward and take William, but Robert blocked his path, leaving him staring in disbelief.

"Why are you impeding my progress? He's clearly trying to sow discord. Henry must have a plan to harm Will."

"Mr. William's safety is paramount, Oliver; we must leave immediately." Robert took a step back before continuing, "Moreover, this has been Mr. Wilson's mildest episode in recent times." He then dashed after Henry, not looking back.

Oliver could only grit his teeth and follow in his footsteps. Caroline had no choice but to pursue them after being ignored by everyone. Finally, all five of them made it safely into the car.

The lift doors opened behind them as their vehicle began to move. A swarm of curious guests and journalists emerged. Robert, who was now in the car, breathed a sigh of relief. They were in a rather remote blind spot, with enough time to make a quiet exit. William's first vehicle had been set up as a decoy, so as long as they got out safely, they'd be fine.

Henry was barely seated when he felt William instinctively lean into him for comfort. Holding William even tighter, Henry felt a sharp pain in his neck as William bit into it. He had instructed William to bite him, but instead of his shoulder, William bit him on the neck. Henry bore the pain with a sigh of resignation.

He had time to think after they were temporarily safe. The first people to exit the lift appeared to be members of the Beaumont family, but Ethan Beaumont would never do such a thing. Ethan and Henry had always been at odds in their previous lives, but they had never outwitted each other.

Henry was the type to set traps and plot, whereas Ethan was extremely cunning and used others as pawns. As a result, it was highly likely that this was the work of James Beaumont.

Robert drove at a high speed, which irritated Henry, who had suffered from car accidents in the past. Although the car appeared to be a standard sports car, its engine had been upgraded. To his surprise, Robert took off so quickly that he left the others far behind.

"This is not the way to the Wilson mansion, Robert."

"What are we doing?" Caroline was finally given the opportunity to make her presence known.

"We're going to Mr. Henry's house," replied Robert.

"What brings you to his house? My brother requires medical attention at home." Henry cast a glance at Caroline, who had remained silent since Henry's earlier threats. She couldn't be as stupid as Wilson, but this young lady clearly lacked any real-life experience.

Henry hadn't paid much attention to Caroline in his previous life, but he'd never neglected the Wilsons financially, even bailing them out of trouble. With Henry gone, Charles would undoubtedly face some difficulties.

Caroline reasoned that since she had escaped the previous situation, she no longer needed to listen to Henry. Robert was a Wilson Family 's servant, so he was bound to obey her. She wanted to assert her own status, which was usually overshadowed by that of her brother.

Oliver appeared to be unable to remain silent any longer. "Caroline, we can't go back to the Wilson mansion," he finally said.

"Those people would almost certainly anticipate that route. Take us to my place, Robert, and then report to the chairman."

"Can you guarantee Will won't relapse if he wakes up without seeing me?"

"Don't think I missed your game at the party; I'm aware of what you're up to. If you prefer, I can clarify it with the chairman on your behalf. Or, better yet, inform Will that it will be quite interesting."

"Don't think you can pin this on me so easily," Oliver retorted, not knowing how much Henry had figured out and thus avoiding rash comments.

"Framing? Okay, I'll call Will's grandfather right now and have him look into it for you."

Henry had already taken William's phone, unlocked it, and started a call before Oliver could respond. After inheriting everything William left behind in his previous life, Henry discovered from a diary that his birth date was the password for all his belongings.

"Let him call, Oliver," Caroline said, still convinced Henry was bluffing. She assumed Henry's arrogance stemmed solely from her brother's affection for him, as she found nothing impressive about his demeanour.

"This is Henry Scott?" said a stern voice as everyone held their breath.
