Chapter 5 VIOLET

I failed her, I immediately thought to myself. I might as well have said it to her face when I sent her crashing through a flight of steps. The sight of the blood running down her thighs, forced a lump of whole hearted regret down my throat. It happened at a time when the walls of our house began to cave in on me.

My own mother began brandishing my shame as a chain to be worn upon my neck. She spat the words of Violet's infertility into every ear that cared to listen, every ear that walked into her front porch. Even teasing other girls on my behalf. That's the reason she brought Agatha into my life and into my home. Yes, Violet thought she originated the plan but the plan was already set in motion four years ago.

I did my best to deny her that satisfactory grin that now laid upon her face but My efforts were all in vain. It all started the first night the agreement kicked off, yes the first night I walked into her room.

Her legs were spread wide upon the bed with the loose nightgown stopping just above her thigh.

"So after years of fighting your mothers wishes, you're finally here," she said with a snarky smile.

"Get that smug look off your face and let's be done with this."

"Why the delay though?" she asked with a smirk.

"You know what you are to me. It is repulsive."

She glanced over me , throwing her hands all over me.

"Don't be in such a hurry, sir," she said tugging at the sleeves of my night garment.

"You know you'll enjoy it."

She began moaning even before our bodies met. Those melancholic frails that echoed against the walls became true cries of pleasure as her eyes rolled back behind her head and every muscle underneath her supple skin became tense.

"Sir, don't stop," she screamed on top of her lungs. I could feel her eyes scovering over Inch of my skin but I couldn't bring myself to stare into hers. She lacked the innocence Violet had when I first went into her, her gentle moans and soft fingers treading eagerly, brushing against my hairs.

"Oh, sir," she screamed again, wrapping her hands around my neck with face now turned to the ceiling.

It came very quickly and just like that I emptied myself into her, collapsing into the space beside her. Her vigorous smile still wide spread evenly against her cheeks.

"Your wife didn't even bother to read through the Agreement letter," she said in a low tune.

"What else was there to read?" I asked turning to her.

"When she signed I automatically became your second wife. She gave her consent."

"What?'' I said sitting upright. I immediately clasped my hand against her throat, listening as she wheezed, gasping for air. She looked at me with watery eyes, literally begging me to let her go with every pitiful movement of her eyeballs. I unhanded her as she turned her back to me, rolling out of bed and to her mirror.

"Choke me all you want. It's already set in stone and It was your mothers idea not mine," she said, coughing out the words one after the other.

"What lengths would she go to wreck my home," I said.

"Have I not done enough?"

Agatha ran her eyes down my body from head to toe and clung closer to the wall. I casually walked up to her, stopping at her distance that my whispers would be perfectly audible and the frown dangled on my forehead clearly visible, I threw the words to her face watching as he still had arms wrapped around her neck;

"I should have gathered the confidence to thrash you out of this house years ago."

I walked out, slamming the door abruptly, walking off to be in the arms of my wife. She laid perfectly folded upon the sheets. Her body vulnerable to the passing cold breeze, evident from her jerking. Her ears never picked up the sound of me entering the room until the wind assisted in shutting the door behind me and forced me to add a little clearing of the throat.

Smiling, she glazed over me with burning questions in her eyes. I could sense these questions running around behind those brown eyes of hers. I knew they were eating her up and eventually he opened her mouth to let the words fly out.

"How...did it ..." I immediately stopped pushing back any utterances back down her throat with mine.

"How are you?" She replied with a giggle, wrapping her arms round me as I sat at the edge of the bed. The hug lasted long, longer than it should have. I didn't want her to see the streaks of molten tears that were slowly mounting behind these eyes.

Whilst she slept off, I stared deep into her face. Things were never going to be different now and it was all because of me.

"Sleep tight my Violet," I said scrubbing the back of my hand down her cheek line.

"Please forgive me for my sins." Sobbing, I dropped a kiss to her forehead, resting my chin upon her head with little whimpers discreetly sent with the night.

It was at that moment I accepted the fact that Mother had finally won.
