"Steven, I hit her!" Ashley squinted her almond eyes and smiled. "But ask her what she did herself. In the future, keep an eye on your interns and don't let them casually enter the operating room!"
As soon as she finished speaking, tears began to flow from Ashley's eyes.
Jessica was slapped, and Steven protected her, but what about her? What was she?
In their three-year relationship, she trusted him completely and believed that they could make it to the end.
But the fact was that his bride was not her, but the prestigious director's daughter.
Was she strong? How could she not be sad when she was betrayed?
She was just pretending to be strong in front of others so as not to appear pitiful.
But her heart still hurt, as if it had been cut by a knife and was bleeding profusely.
Ashley's vision was blurred by her tears, and everything in front of her was hazy. Or rather, Ashley wasn't looking where she was going at all. She just walked quickly with her head down, not wanting anyone to see her grief and embarrassment.
At a corner in the hospital corridor, she bumped into a man coming from the opposite direction.
Her little face hurt from the impact, and due to inertia, she fell backwards uncontrollably.
Just when Ashley thought she would definitely fall to the ground and make herself even more embarrassed, a pair of strong arms suddenly caught her waist. His arms tightened, allowing her to regain her balance. However, most of her body was involuntarily pressed against the man's solid and hot body.
The man's breath was very close, sprinkled on her ear, hot and moist, making her feel uncomfortable.
"Thank you," Ashley said senselessly.
Ashley raised her head and their eyes unexpectedly met.
A pair of almond eyes, pure and full of embarrassment.
A pair of phoenix eyes, deep and meaningful.
"It's you..." Daniel didn't expect to see this little white rabbit in the hospital.
"It's me," Ashley blinked away the tears in her eyes and looked at Daniel with round almond eyes. "You...you..."
Daniel's arm did not move away from Ashley's waist but instead firmly held her in his arms. On the contrary, his rough fingers quickly pinched her chin, forcing her small face to look up so that he could observe her more carefully. His eyes were cold and sharp like a lone wolf, and she was his prey, so there was no way he would give her a chance to escape.
Their bodies were close together, with few gaps between the soft curves and solid chests.
The little bunny's eye sockets were very red, as if she had just cried. Her lips were bitten by herself, with bloodstains all over them.
Her skin was very white, but her complexion now was so pale that it was unreasonable, almost like white paper.
He lowered his head again and easily saw the bloodstains on Ashley's left arm.
Daniel didn't hesitate to roll up Ashley's sleeve and found her arm covered in dried bloodstains, with a visible puncture wound where the blood had been drawn.
"Do doctors still need to personally administer blood transfusions? And then not even do proper wound care?" Daniel asked, his brow furrowed in concern.
"What do you care? It's none of your business," Ashley replied, avoiding eye contact. "This is a hospital, you better let me go. If you dare to treat me like last time, I will definitely call the police."
Daniel's eyes darkened with a hint of intensity. She was the first woman to ever bite him, and the first to talk to him like that.
"Call the police?" Daniel raised an eyebrow. "Little bunny, you know my identity is not ordinary. Are you sure you want to call the police?"
Ashley knew he wasn't an ordinary person, given his injuries and the fact that he had been ambushed in the middle of the night. But whether his identity was good or bad, she couldn't tell. If she reported him, she didn't know what kind of impact it would have.
For a split second, Ashley hesitated, and Daniel noticed the softening in her eyes. He smirked.
Releasing his grip on her waist, Ashley took the opportunity to break free from his embrace.
"Why were you crying?" Daniel noticed the redness around Ashley's eyes and asked in a low voice.
"I wasn't crying," Ashley denied instinctively.
"Yes, you were."
"I said I wasn't! I wasn't!" Ashley rubbed her eyes vigorously, refusing to admit it.
Meanwhile, Megan had finished her work and was looking for Ashley.
When she finally found Ashley, Megan hurried over. "Ashley, I've been looking for you for so long. How are you feeling? You gave that soldier 300CC of blood and performed two surgeries. Are you feeling okay?"
"I'm fine," Ashley replied, her face pale.
"How can you be fine? That Jessica woman is so despicable!" Megan exclaimed. "She's only the daughter of the director, but because I'm just a nurse, I have to follow her orders. She's not even that competent, yet she acts so arrogantly. If it weren't for you giving blood and pushing yourself to perform beyond your limits, that soldier wouldn't have survived!"
"Megan..." Ashley tried to interrupt.
"Jessica, Jessica..." Megan continued to rant. "I don't know what Steven was thinking, choosing her over you. You two were supposed to get married next year and had such a good relationship. If it weren't for Jessica's interference, you would have continued happily together. Steven is such a scumbag, and Jessica is not as good as you. I bet he only cares about her family's wealth."
Ashley's heart ached as she listened to Megan's words. "Megan, please stop. Their relationship has nothing to do with me. I saved that soldier because I am a doctor."
Daniel crossed his arms and furrowed his thick eyebrows as he looked at Ashley with deepening intensity.
